I would also add that in my opinion it's hard to define someone as being the greatest at something (in this case the best midfielder in the Premier League era), when they haven't actually won the competition that they are being judged in.
When you compare his zero PL titles to Scholes who won 11 League titles, and Lampard who won 3 league titles, then the argument for Gerrard being the greatest becomes skewered.

Add to that the fact that Gerrard scuppered his own chances of winning a Premier League title with Liverpool - which was hilarious then, is hilarious now, and it will continue to be hilarious in the future; it just further skewers the argument for him being the greatest PL midfielder.

Gerrard created a defining moment in the PL era (for all the wrong reasons!), and when it comes to debating the greatest PL midfielder of all time, then that Slip should ALWAYS be mentioned in the conversation.

To me, there will always be a distinction between the best and the greatest. Gerrard can never be the greatest, because as you say he doesn't have the distinctions. The greatest need to have both the individual and team accolades. It's a much better discussion if Gerrard was simply a better player than Scholes or Lampard.

Truly a brilliant day.

I was 15 but had checked out of football at the time because of how bad we were. I remember City winning the league on the final day though, on which we drew with Southampton.

Caught? He absolutely organised that huddle and silly speech in front of the cameras on purpose. I'll never forget his second half effort in that game, trying to be Roy of the Rovers booting it from 30 yards constantly. Poetic stuff.

He was pathetic! Stopped taking corners so he could score, shots from everywhere.

Thought it summarised the difference between him and someone like Scholes who would have just kept playing his game.

Unfortunately, this is all I can find of this classic. It's not the full video because I remember in the original video, when the camera cuts to José celebrating, he insults him saying something along the lines of "what have you ever won, 5 times, lad"

One thing that has always gone under the radar is that they essentially faced Chelsea's B team. Cech, Terry, Luiz, Oscar, Ramires and Hazard weren't in the squad. Cahill, Torres and Willian were benched. Duds like Kalas, Salah and Schurrle were starting.

It was a pure and simple bottle job.

For this reason Mourinho will always have a special place in my heart, him running down the touch line after Willian had sealed the win was iconic. I remember the day well, I was watching it in the pub and actually had €5 on Ba to score the first goal at 9/1. It was the perfect day. Made even more iconic by the fact that Salah and Torres, 2 of Liverpool’s greatest ever Premier League players and club “legends” contributed to them losing the match and title. What a day, as the song by Elbow goes “one day like this a years would see me right”

It was glorious. Stevie Me, center of attention. All the theatrics in front of the camera with the huddle. The forced romanticism from the media on what was meant to be their day of destiny. The slip. Stevie spending the last minutes of the match desperately trying to win the game by himself, fecking up any chances Liverpool got, like the selfish prick he's always been.
