25th May, city in the final: What could swing it in our favour? Scenarios?

Realistically they could already be 3 or 4-up going into the tunnel on half time and I’m switching the telly off. Humiliation on the biggest stage in football! (That meaning Wembley Stadium)

That’s what I’m seeing and it wont go away.

Surely it can’t happen? We’re Man Utd ffs!

What if:

  • Shaw and Martinez are fully fit = back 4 intact!
  • Rashford back on the left and decides to put a shift in.
  • Garnacho down the right
  • Pep plays Ortego in goal

What’s needed to avoid the worst scenarios?

Feel free to add to the list.

Note: comments such as "DeBruyne falls off a cliff etc" will not be accepted.
Rashford putting in a shift is accepted as serious!

Someone, anyone, to come in, replace Ten Hag and have the team play at least the basics of a football system.
What we’re seeing this season is a schoolyard game of kick and chase

It's a one off game, and hopefully form goes out the window with it being a derby game too.

City will dominate possession and are also likely to take over fifteen / twenty shots on our goal. We need Onana to have an amazing game or the post / bar to come up clutch. We could also do with City going down to ten men at some stage.

We are massive underdogs, I am not expecting much but it at least takes the pressure off.

Shaw and Martinez back in theory would be huge, but they would have been out for months. I'd hope that they're return a few weeks before the final to get them back to match fitness.

The only way I give us a chance is if City either lose a key man like Rodri or Foden and we benefit from their efforts in Europe and the League. Basically fatigue.

We'd also need to be at our counter attacking best. Weirdly enough as bad as we are we seem to be able to randomly pull off one off results against decent sides.

The fact it's my birthday is more than enough to swing it.

2-1 to United

I think that this could actually be very dangerous for City. No one on the earth gives us even a 5% chance and as others have mentioned, we should have some good players back and it's all we have to play for. We've also demonstrated we can beat anyone, including city. There's also revenge to be had. It should be very easy to get the players fired up for this.

Expectation can weigh heavily in a final.

Sunny May day, sun blinding the City players, who then get confused and start listening to the wrong bald man for tactics, meaning they leave a huge gaping big hole in the centre of the pitch for United to cut straight through them and get 25 shots on their goal.

First, get ETH out immediately.
Then, give it to McClaren and instruct him to play park the bus and counter attack. It's the only way we can snatch a win.
Finally, pray to football god. We need extraordinary luck to win.

City could have a bad case of COVID or something? 15 players out for this match? That might help us to keep it down to a reasonable scoreline.

Can't we just play loud music outside of the hotel City will be staying at?

We're getting smashed in 99 out of 100 cases with this clown in charge.

In the remaining 1%, we only lose.

To answer your question, we need an interim and then maybe we can get to 5% non-demolition chance.

I really think replacing ETH would be our best bet at pulling something off here. I wouldn't want Ole to come back for his own sake really, but he'd be our best chance.

Other than that? Maybe Pep mixes up his 'supplements' and sleeps in? Rodri discovers that KDB has been sleeping with Mrs Rodders and swings the yeti at him like a battle axe, ruling all 3 out?

Realistically I think our best bet is to counter with a quick front 3 and hope Bruno finds some magic down the back of the couch.

I do wonder if the title race will play a part in City players' heads. Like if City lost the title on the final day, would that affect them mentally? Or if they won it on the last day, would it give them a huge boost?

Anything can happen in one game. Additionally it's a final, so there's always the chance Pep might try to reinvent football with some new formation that no one understands. One can hope.

We park the bus, 2 big double decker ones with armour plating on the siedes.

And Bruno get's license to shoot 25 times at goal. At least 2 should go in.

Success.

Not concede within 30 seconds would be a good platform.

City dominating possession in our half may work in our favour if the players put their bodies on the line in defence. We will always have a chance on the break then. We should use the Real Madrid game as a template.

This is going to sound stupid but I’ve said this before. City don’t ever really look convincing in finals like they do in big league games. Sounds stupid I know, since they win so many - but that’s mainly down to their inclination to control possession. I think in the semi against Chelsea, last year v us in the final, CL final they ended up winning against a shocking inter team with Onana in goal - they looked absolutely rattled at times and there for the taking, and got through on basically the other team being shitter than them and not taking chances.

I think if they hadn’t scored that complete freak goal against us last year within the first minute we’d have won that game. Same with their game against Chelsea in the semi. Grealishs handball gets given and they fold like a deck chair imo.

It’s all conjecture anyway, but my main point is despite winning a few they never look convincing in finals for me - at least compared to their league performances which are often ridiculously good

It’s almost like Peps system is a bit of a crutch for their players in those big games

Think we'd have more chance with a Sam Allerdyce backs to the wall all out defend hoof ball smash and grab style of play. Mctominay being the lone striker of course

Martinez was pretty awful in his last cameo. Not expecting fireworks there either way. Shaw back would give us a natural leftback for the first time in half a year. Something at least.
But nah.

Well, If they sack EtH right now we have a good chance of an upset.

People like to be very dramatic about these things.

The obvious thing is we are highly reliant on some defenders back fit. The current back four relegates our chances to near enough zero.

But with a few back, a big one off game - pressure on City. We can win, it happens in football.

Loose the tyres of Citys coach down so they turn up late and forfeit the game?

Agree with anyone saying not having ETH in charge is the biggest factor that could help us cause an upset

Only possible chance is a reversal in the injury problems. We get a few back and they lose a few.

But its not going to happen.
