891.

If he extends his contract, as rumoured, and maintains his output he'll do it. It's a bloody big ask though.
Not all that big an ask necessarily. If Saudi keep spending he'll get the service he needs to batter all but the best teams in the Saudi league and longevity is kind of his thing.

I don't know, he already looks incredibly stiff and robotic on the pitch at his current age, and it's not as if he can go to a much weaker league for his goals to even count towards that "record". Yes, he cares about goals, but he also cares about his image/brand, and it's not unthinkable that in a couple of years he really shows his age on the pitch to the extent that even he realises it.

There are completely unknown players in that league that has 1:1 ratio over several seasons. Now that the top teams in the league are buying PL talent, the most prolific scorer in history can go on for a long time especially considering his dedication and his obession with his records.

Such a weirdo, why is he even playing over there  If he accepted his physical decline, he could still have been a brilliant rotation/bench option for a lot of good teams
Do you realise how much money $260 million is? In one year!

I was fortunate enough to see van Basten back then and it's impossible to say but I think it's a bit of trolling going on.
Saudi society is definitely opening up if they name stadia after females, I don't know who Mrs Ool was for al-Nassr name their Park after but it's got to be progress, right?

He won 3 ballon dors, a euro and multiple European trophies. Retired basically at 29. I think he's pretty reasonable to think he would have been better.

I think it certainly a fairer comparison than most others, but when it comes to Ballon d'ors as a metric Ronaldo was competing against Arguably the best player of all time whilst Van Basten was competing against greats but none near the level of Messi. Essentially if it wasn't for Messi, Ronaldo likely would have retired with 8-10 Ballon d'ors.

I would have expected one of the Saudi teams to reach the AFC Champions league final but they haven't.

after the covid restrictions lifted, mrs ool was the first female to be stoned for showing some ankle whilst tripping over a crack in the pavement. the pent up frustration of lockdown, coupled with the euphoric feeling of freedom, meant it was the best stoning in living memory. a complete sell out. it was only right to name the stadium after her.

I see their PR is working on some. "They named something after a woman. Look how hard they're working to be progressive."

Okay.... Just realised you are indeed trolling since that stadium ist called MRSOOL Park and not Mrs Ool...

Is this a back pass or what? Ronnie got a career that almost anyone would jealous of but he is fun meme material.

He’s 7 off 900 career goals. Do we think he’ll hit the 1000 mark? Not as straightforward as it sounds.

He must be compartmentalising and then releasing quite a lot of internal anger to be this obsessed.

He'll keep playing until he does. He'll count goals scored in his back garden scored against his kid in goal. The man is pathetic.
Why shouldn't he though? I mean yeah football journalists won't care much about his total tally in Saudi Arabia, but if he ends up retiring with 1000 career goals he knows that puts him where Pelé was in regards to goal records. If he doesn't want hang up his boots what's he supposed to do?

Hes gonna keep playing until hes plenty past Messi in terms of total goals. Simple as. Messi lives rent free in the lads head. You see how he reacts like a 10 year old when the fans chant Messi's name.

I think thats the only accolade he wants now at this stage, I doubt he's bothered and club trophies for Al Nassr. He just wants that 'more than Messi' record

Same as Pele pulling them from under the couch 50 years after he retired.

In saying that, I've seen quite a few of Ronaldo's goals in Saudi and it genuinely looks like the keepers are being paid to get out of the way.

It’s reassuring to know that no matter how rich and successful some people can get, you can still have a good laugh at their expense. Say, when they run off celebrating like they’ve won the World Cup while playing what is akin to non-league football at 40.

I am able to both admire his pathological competitiveness, and chuckle at his seemingly limitless insecurity.

He reminds me of this one guy on our recessional football team, who at nearly 50 still shoots from every angle, screams at other people for not passing to him, celebrates wildly when he scores, ignores the thirty other shots he spooned over the bar, and misses the point that the rest of us are all there for a laugh and the beers afterwards.im sure he keeps a goal tally too.

Never change Ronnie.

But look at it from the perspective of the fans, the manager, the board and his team mates. Anyone would prefer someone being passionate rather than strolling lazily around with a beer belly just looking forward to the next pay cheque.

One big difference between him and the player he is compared to (apart from height and quality of general play) is his lack of humility. Messi let's others talk about him while he talks about the team. Ronaldo talks about himself first.

Yet when we talk about Messi we get a lot of humility-less people calling us fan boys.

Ronaldo always wanted to be the GOAT. That's why he is loved by players like Garnacho and Hojlund and even my self. His fighting mentality, you can see it in certain players. They want to be the best and will beat any real 'tests' they put themselves through.

That's why Ronaldo played in, Portugal, England, Spain, Italy and England Again before going to Saudi Arabia which has a higher quality of players than the MLS even at the retirement level.

Messi on the other hand spent most of his career at Barcelona - arguably the weakest 'best league of all time' in comparison to Serie A 90's or PL post 2000, won most trophies under Pep's supervision which started numbing out as soon as he left aswell as the likes of Xavi & Iniesta went away. Then went to PSG where the next Pele failed aka Neymar but soon as Messi looked 'different' - the excuses that he was just getting old was popping up even though he continued to win Balon D'or as the best player in the world. You have people like me wonder what would have happened if Messi had moved to PSG earlier in his career like Neymar did. Never mind to a club like United or even playing under a manager like Mourinho instead of Guardiola or Enrique.

Would he still be regarded as the best? I have my doubts the same way Neymar looked like a magician at Barcelona always quoted as the 3rd best player in the world to a player that ultimately had a dissapointing career in relation to his potential.

Then finally the MLS. Saudi would have been the best league to play in at his age but just like PSG - took an easier option than playing in top leagues like Ronaldo did.

Ronaldo always wanted to be the best and thats why he went and wanted to dominate the whole world.

Barcelona>PSG>Miami
V
Sporting>United>Madrid>Juventus>United>Al Nassr

One is a significantly harder career than the other.

Fair play to Messi for taking the easier options of life and coming out as the bigger winner overall to Ronaldo especially with the Balon D'ors & the World Cup.

The thing is ultimately some people will value technical ability over something like the mentality of a player.

Likewise vice versa.

That's why some of us regard Ronaldo as our GOAT. Because of his mentality to challenge himself and be the best player in the world.

That's why even though Messi was no doubt the better technical player to Ronaldo playing in weaker leagues & under a team that has had a tactical system built in it since the days of Cryuff which is still seen to date under poor managers like Xavi -

Some will always value Ronaldo's fighting spirit & mentality to conquer the world and try be the GOAT.

You can value the better technical player, the biggest winner in an easier career.

I will value the physical strength, the mental strength, the power, the precision, the ability to play with different players like Modric, Scholes, Rooney, Quaresma, Evra, Bale, Benzema, Kroos, Ramos, Marcelo, Ferdinand, Giggs, Alonso, Di Maria, Ozil, Moutinho, Kaka, Dybala, Ji Sung Park, Chiellini, Deco and many many more players.

We just value different things. You prefer the player who is like a player born with the best technical talent on the ball ever whilst playing for a club that has a philosophy similair to a dad or mum raising their own child in a certain way.

Some of us value the player that built himself through the different tasks, tactics, strengths, weaknesses of different players and leagues from his own mentality to try be regarded as the greatest of all time!

Hope you enjoyed your GOATS career as much as i enjoyed mine

Take care

Messi and humble does not go hand in hand. No player of this stature it's THAT humble, it's impossible.

Yet what the other poster was implying is that CR always had a need to praised himself and in such regard, Messi never did it. I do not think BTW that with CR it's always about himself, even when his priority is his carreer (like any footballer) and as narcissist as he can be, he still had a very good working relantionship with many mates and coaches.

This doesn't make Messi humble per se, nor CR obssesion of talking about himself is just being driven, he has a notorious narcissist vein. No big deal, lots of players/athletes from any sport got that tendency before and will have in the future.
The main thing I personally do not like in his case, it's that him most of the times (not always, from time to time he laughs at himself or sthg he says and he is more relax) lacks that quote of "humor", witt, that Ibra, Romario, Pele, R9 and specially Diego had. So at the end of the day lacking that "ability" I guess that sometimes makes it harder to swalow when he goes over the top about himself.

PD: The rest of your post my man, it's quite misguided for my taste and with a very noticeable tendency, yet no big deal, to each to his own.

If your idol want the hardest career, he should try to play as a GOAT level goalscorer + playmaker + dribbler just for a single day and test how easy that is.

Ronaldo always wanted to be the GOAT. That's why he is loved by players like Garnacho and Hojlund and even my self. His fighting mentality, you can see it in certain players. They want to be the best and will beat any real 'tests' they put themselves through.
What fighting mentality are you talking about? The biggest primadonna of all time especially when things do not go his way, putting his teammates under the bus, calling Neville, Rooney jealous, unhappy when they win things, putting emojis in instagram posts like a 5 year-old kid, getting easily triggered when Messi name is chanted.. This is the example of a weak, fragile mentality with huge amount of narcissism.

That's why Ronaldo played in, Portugal, England, Spain, Italy and England Again before going to Saudi Arabia which has a higher quality of players than the MLS even at the retirement level.
Always played under best managers at super-teams unlike Messi.

Ronaldo’s managers “without Ronaldo
7 Champions League (8th incoming) + 5 Champions League finals
6 Super Cup
15 PL + 8 Serie A + 5 La Liga
8 FA Cup + 6 Coppa Italia + 2 Copa Del Rey
6 Europa League (UEFA Cup)

Messi’s managers’ “without Messi
1 Champions League + 2 Champions League finals
1 Super Cup
6 PL + 3 Bundesliga + 1 Ligue 1
2 FA Cup + 1 Copa del Rey + 1 Coupe De France

under Pep's supervision which started numbing out as soon as he left aswell as the likes of Xavi & Iniesta went away. Then went to PSG where the next Pele failed aka Neymar but soon as Messi looked 'different' -
yeah, right

Messi without Xavi, Iniesta, Neymar in "5 years"
3 Ballon D'or
2 FIFA Best
1 Golden Shoe
1 UCL top-scorer
2 IFFHS World's Best Playmaker
3 La Liga top-scorer
3 League most assists (2 La Liga + 1 Ligue 1)
WC MVP
Copa MVP
Finalissima MOTM

Ronaldo outside Real in "12 years"
1 Ballon D'or
1 Golden Shoe
1 UCL top-scorer
2 league top goalscorer

Your idol should be thankful to Modric, Kroos, Sergio Ramos and co. as right after he left Real, he was exposed big time while many of these guys continue to dominate everything.

Ronaldo always wanted to be the best and thats why he went and wanted to dominate the whole world.
Messi is a GOAT level playmaker + dribbler + goalscorer while your idol is just an elite goalscorer turned into a tap-in merchant for the last 5-6 years breaking rejection records in Europe and getting benched by your NT in the WC. He is not even a better goalscorer than Pele, Messi or Gerd Muller who have dominated every single tournament at the club or NT level unlike Ronaldo the WC bench warmer.

Also, why are you conveniently ignoring that your idol has broken rejection records including by PSG multiple times?

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11598479/Cristiano-Ronaldo-rejected-numerous-teams-despite-available-just-80k-week.html

Then finally the MLS. Saudi would have been the best league to play in at his age but just like PSG - took an easier option than playing in top leagues like Ronaldo did.
You're aware, MLS is ranked higher than the Saudi League, right? and that Messi went to the worst team in the league winning them their first cup as the MVP in two months while your idol went to the league leader Al Nassr winning nothing after two years despite bring in Mane, Brozovic, Otavio, Telles etc. so that he can more comfortably statpad.

Your idol has no choice but to go to South Africa as he said to Piers just a couple of months ago that he wants to finish at the top, bu was unwanted in Europe.

It wasn't hard to think of one game

Sorry for the terrible music.
2 goals (one goalscorer like, the other a bit different), 4 assists, at least 1 big chance created not converted, multiple dribbles. Smart link up play with his team. Do check 6:50 timestamp for some particularly world class football from him, the kind of football some fans enjoy regardless of which player they like more. Can't see a player having a much better game than this, regardless of context.

I'm not really implying he had 500 games like these, as I don't enjoy exagerating just to try to make a point across.

Kroos: I was happy to meet Cristiano again. We were neighbours in the locker room throughout the four seasons we played together and I had the greatest success with him and thanks to him. I wished him luck and asked him how he was doing in Italy. Later in the dressing room we exchanged shirts.

It's ironic, isn't it?
