Enrique should be talked about a lot more… I think he’s probably the only one who can really compete with guardiola and challenge for the champions league with us. That will never happen though because of the World Cup coming up. It’s going to be poch isn’t it, we’ve wanted him for a while now and he clearly wants to come back to England where I think his family is. Ralf wants ten Haag though as he thinks he’s the best fit for the club and who can argue with him, he’s been brought in to work with the squad until the end of the season so he will have a clear idea of what type of manager we need.

If Rangnick moves upstairs, maybe Sebastian Hoeneß. Would be an outrageously risky move as he has minimal first-team coaching experience (only 1½ seasons), but he possesses some basic ingredients for the job: au courant with contemporary positional play principles, did quite well with Bayern's reserve team to overcome nepotism related chit-chat (winning the 3. Liga title in 2020), and connected to Rangnick (via Stuttgart, Hoffenheim and Leipzig). Hoffenheim is a club that was highly influenced by Ralf Rangnick. Under his reign, the club made it into the Bundesliga. They banked on a vertical style of play with quick counter-attacks and only as much width as needed. Furthermore, Julian Nagelsmann had a great impact at Hoffenheim as well. With his centrally focused positional play, the team surprised many spectators with attractive attacking football. Comparing Hoffenheim’s philosophy to Hoeness’ style of play at Bayern, we can find some similarities. Hoeness’ attacking tactics resemble Nagelsmann’s positional play. Independent of the tactical formation, both Hoeness and Nagelsmann like to overload the areas between the lines and provide width just with one player per side. Like one can see in the image below (as a part of Patrick Mill’s match analysis), Nagelsmann’s attacking structure also relied on the occupation of the space between the lines as a vital component.

Luis Enrique would be the safest and most accomplished option, all things considered; one might argue that he's the best manager we can appoint from the rumored “shortlist” as he is tactically sharp, accustomed to a heavy burden of expectations, and won't shrink in the presence of stars as he has played with and managed some of the most decorated individuals in football history — many of whom outstrip our lot (excluding Cristiano, and maybe Varane): Messi, Fenômeno, Laudrup, Stoichkov, Rivaldo, Raúl, Figo, Xavi, Butragueño, Suárez, Iniesta, Neymar, Hierro, Totti.
