2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup 23rd May - 15th June

Bunch of overrated players who think they're stars because they won a few youth competitions... Getting knocked out happens but to get knocked out like that was an embarassment.

Hopefully it does them some good in the long term.

Just watching a rerun of Korea v Argentina.
The Koreans doing well to harry the Argies and limit their chances, while taking the couple of chances they have had.

This thread is dead, what about that US upset of France? Not the biggest surprise in my opinion but with Mendez being banned I thought France would definitely walk it.

France were very underwhelming all tournament. Laboured massively in the group stage. Probably a bit unfortunate to go out today, they were the better team, missed too many chances. Made negative subs at 2-1 as well which hindered them after the equaliser. It's incredibly wide open now, anyone can win.

Not surprised with Portugal and France performances. Most of both teams players already play at professional level and are completely tired at season ending. Unlinke the Seniro WC, the time to prepare U20 WC is not as much.

Mali just equalised in the 120' mark to make it 2-2 against Argentina. Their fighting spirit is winning over the Polish crowd who are now fully on Mali's side.

Just catching up on highlights.
The US win was great. It’ll get interesting if they manage to get past Ecuador.

Don’t know how Japan lost to S Korea, at least based on the 3 min highlights I saw. They had the best chances but Korea got the only goal.

Sergio Quintero of Ecuador caught my eye. Wears number 16, too.
Ecuador have a Golden Generation coming up at the moment. They won the U20 South American championship earlier this year beating Brail in the final.

Sporting signed one of their best if not their best talent coming up in Gonzalo Plata who was also being scouted by Barcelona. He is 18 and has been one of the standout players in this World Cup.

Another good talent is their striker Leonardo Campana. Good positional sense and technical ability. They have a gold mine coming through. I think if they beat USA they will win the whole thing. Plata and Campana are the two biggest talents from Ecuador in my opinion.

Other talents from there Golden Generation:
-Jose Cifuentes
-Alexandre Alvarado
-Jordan Rezabala

TALENT OF THE DAY Gonzalo Plata Age: 18 Country:

Club: Sporting CP Position: LW/RW Player role: flamboyant winger Strengths: pace, technique, dribbling, close control, creativity Foot: left Similar type of player: Riyad Mahrez Potential: 8,5/10

Absolutely brilliant at the World Cup U20. One of tournament's best players so far. Exceptional ability to maneuver in small spaces, joy to watch. Sporting CP got themselves another fantastic winger.

Yeah, they were scintillating against Uruguay the other day. All thanks to Tony V, no doubt.

It wasn't a final, the U20 is played out in two group stages and a roundrobin of qualified teams.

They were excellent in winning both the group and the roundrobin. Strangely, we had beaten them in both, we were bound to see our luck run out :annoyed:

We really should have a look at them, we are hugely popular in Ecuador due to TonyV, no other Ecuadorian has played at the biggest club and stages of his time since Alberto Spencer in the 60s.

Oh I thought they won the Competition though?

And yes I agree this team has lots of talent and United should keep an eye on the top prospects of this team.

Yes, but they won a roundrobin/group format, the game with Brazil was their last but not a final. Brazil didn't even qualify to the World Cup.

Ahh I see now! Thanks for clearing that up!

Italy Mali a fun watch right now. Comical own goal from Mali but a nice equaliser. Both sides had big chances for 2-1.

Referee ruined the Italy/Mali game with that sending off. Should have been a yellow card. Sent off Mali's best player, in my estimation, too.

The way this Mali/Italy game is being refereed is suspicious.

Cracking goal for Ecuador and they lead the USA 1-0
