I mean there was also the triathlon relay, kayak cross, golf, bmx… I guess where you’re just seeing bad luck and coincidence, I’m seeing a pattern. But luck always evens itself out, so I’m looking forward to us beating the Americans or Australians or whoever by narrow margins a few times later this week. After all, if ‘it can happen’ to them, it can happen to us too. :+1:

Then what about your track cyclists? And that rowers beating The Netherlands on the line? Pidcock with a devastating attack to win gold? It's not like you have 1 gold medal and a hundred silver/bronze ones or anything close to that...

Getting beat in the last 1k of a triathlon has got nothing to do with winning mentality or anything, just lacking an end shot. Same goes for Kerr, winning mentality means nothing if you just don't have the legs in such a race anymore.
 
Thought Hudson Smith was a dead cert for gold tonight, we have basically turned into Arsenal, looks promising for 90% of the event and then get pipped on the finish line.

Was watching on I think discovery plus and they said he'd gone off on a stretcher (they said this was good news not entirely sure about that would rather they'd said he was conscious and went off on a stretcher)

Presumably there will be an update somewhere once he's been seen at the hospital?

We’ve had more against us than for this time round, which I think is just bad luck, but the mountain biking, women’s quadruple skulls and men’s triathlon are examples of where we snatched gold at the last minute.

Real shame Mihaela couldn't beat Zhihui in the 49s. Thought she really stood a shot after the snatch and Zhihui missing her 2nd CJ but alas, China again reigns supreme.

Just saw the volleyball results, has someone checked on @giorno? Looks like he really should've traveled to Paris to throw N'Gapeth on the Seine before the match.

The only event you’ve listed where we were the favourites to win is the Kayak Cross which is known for being unpredictable and chaotic.

Where did I say I was seeing bad luck and coincidence? I’m seeing athletes perform extremely well on the biggest stage but fall slightly short because they are also competing against other world class athletes and nobody has a divine right to win anything.

The fact that you make comments about not having a winning mentality hot off the back of Hudson-Smith’s fantastic run… I just find it a bit odd. The guy just smashed his PB and the European Record in the biggest, most pressurised race of his whole life. That’s not someone crumbling under pressure or failing to perform at their best when it matters most.
 
Heptahalon starts tomorrow I’m not going to get my hopes up about KJT, medal would be fine at this point.

Couple of great boxing finals tonight. Khyzhniak was absolutely relentless, a complete nightmare opponent for anybody. Oralbay did fantastic to stick with him and showed some very good skill, but he’ll be sore in the morning.

I'm very surprised Italy lost today - France played their best volleyball in the tournament and in the last years. Also were very lucky today.
 
Anton Källberg coming through with the biggest win of his career to take Sweden to the finals in the table tennis team competition. What a comeback.

Josh Kerr ran faster than he ever has before and broke the British record. Hudson-Smith runs a PB too and broke the European record. He ran one of the fastest 400m of all time. It’s a huge shame for them, that it hasn’t been quite enough for gold… but the idea they have underachieved is silly.

I agree with this. MHS produced an incredible run. No one has ever run a 400m that fast and lost before. Normally a 43.4 would see an athlete half a straight ahead - Johnson ran 43.49 in Atlanta 96 for example. That’s not a mental issue. It’s the other guy being too good on the day.

So proud. Sweden makes the Final of Table Tennis. But it will be a very difficult final against one of 2. Either host nation France or the specialists China.

It was savage. The men’s boulders were overcooked too. Hope the setters judge the difficulty a bit better in the final. They have to climb lead straight after the final bouldering session. So they’re going to be pretty shattered going into it. If it’s anything like as tough as today’s route it will be a short event!
 
I'm more gutted about Hudson-Smith than others because of his age, so cruel it's took him until 29 to stay fit and contend for title. He says his time is coming but unfortunately he will be 30 by next Worlds, fear his best form has come a little bit too late in career but hope he proves me wrong.

Just heard a Talksport interview and he said on to the relay so maybe he's interested in running it. Know that he wasn't too keen at Worlds last year.
