Anderson

As I said the previous formation demanded the two midfielders to play deep and cover lot of inches of pitch. Now we are expecting Anderson to act like an attacking midfielder. That transition requires time. BTW if SAF wanted a scorer in midfield then he shouldn't have signed Anderson in the first place. The boy was never a scorer in midfield.

You're talking as though Anderson has only struggled since Ronaldo left. This is, of course, untrue.

He had hit hot and cold throughout his entire United's career, something that is natural for a young player who had to adapt in a role which is not his. Now that he was sort of adapting to that system we have decided to change the system and play him more upfront. It will take time for him to adapt.

I agree with some that part of the reason he did not reach the heights here is he was played too deep, but I think every footballer has that natural age when he comes through, recently this age has gone down considerably but for some players it just does not happen till they reach their mid twenties and I think that's what is happening to Ando.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up whether to sell midfielder Anderson to France.

The 22-year-old Brazilian is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury and is not expected to be fit until September, but that hasn't stopped a trio of Ligue One sides expressing an interest in signing him.

Anderson has vowed to get his United career back on track following a bust-up with manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but the Old Trafford boss could be tempted to cash in on the player he paid Porto £18million for three years ago, but has largely failed to live up to expectations.

Marseille are the latest to declare their interest in him but they face competition from Lyon and Paris St Germain.

Always nice when the journos manage to get Fergie on the phone to a nice honest talk.

No club is going to buy a player who is out with knee ligament damage until September.

I dont believe the story but its not too hard to believe clubs being interested in Anderson, and with his injury they might think if they offer enough we might be tempted to sell.

Personally i think all these stories are bullshit and selling a player who, while being inconsistant, has shown enough potential to warrant more chances. I'll put it this way i would rather put up with his inconsistancy than sell him to see him develop into a classy midfield player somewhere else

£18 million, was it really that much? Holy shit!

I read somewhere it was more like £8 million upfont with add ons.. and considering we have won the CL, PL, CC since he came to OT.. I think we would have already paid a huge amount of the add ons, how much ever it was..

We signed Rooney with a broken foot, that turned out ok.

not exactly the same as "knee ligament damage".

And Rooney or Ruud is not comparable to Anderson. If we're to sell him injured that would reduce his value significantly. And I can't see us selling him for less than 10 mill pounds.

Why would it reduce his value significantly? September's two and a half months away, how many £millions does two and a half months of injury knock off a 22yo's value?

French star key to Anderson deal

Posted on Monday, 21st June 2010 by Ivor Irwin

It seems that all the top French clubs are panting at the prospect of signing Anderson.

Despite his being sidelined after a knee operation, David Gill’s phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from Olympique Marseille, Paris St. Germain, St. Etienne and Olympique Lyonnais, trying to secure deals to bring the Brazilian to France.

Having given the ex- Gremio and Porto wünderkind a number of chances for redemption, the Gaffer’s patience seems to have worn thin. The easygoing dread locked one, although sporadically brilliant, has been unwilling to buckle down and unable to score.
Having done a runner back to Brazil earlier this year, the overweight midfielder :lol:has spent his recuperation time blowing hot and cold over being sold and, I’m told, stuffing himself with free food at the Porto Allegre Fogo de Chao restaurant.

It appears that Sir Alex is still feeling a twinge of ambivalence or the lad would be gone already and, indeed, there are still many football pundits who feel Anderson will eventually grow up, wake up and smell the coffee.

There has been some movement this weekend, however, as the world has converged on South Africa. The word is that Marseille’s coach, Didier Deschamps, is very much a fan of Anderson but is frustrated by United’s unwillingness to do a straight deal. The name which keeps cropping up is Mathieu Valbuena.

The two-footed Valbuena is equally at home on both wings and in central midfield. Possessing a fantastic engine, the ability to keep and hold the ball and a keen football brain, his only down side seems to be his height as he stands a mere 5’6”.

Having signed for Bordeaux’s youth academy, Valbuena found himself rejected at seventeen owing to his then slight frame, but what follows is a little-engine-that-could story. Valbuena signed for a division 5 semipro club, Lanon-Castets and worked as a salesman in a shoe store. After two years of paying his dues, Valbuena was signed by the Championnat National Division 3 side, Libcume Saint-Seurn. After dazzling his way to the division’s player-of-the year award and helping the club gain promotion, Valbuena was scouted and signed in June 2006 by Marseille.

A year later after a series of injury problems, Franck Ribery gone to Bayern Munich and a new manager in Eric Gerets, Valbuena began to shine. His goal against Liverpool at Anfield in O.M.’s 0-1 win has become a YouTube favourite. Having bloomed under Gerets, Valbuena has been a revelation under Didier Deschamps, helping the club to the Ligue 1 title this past season.

After making a ten minute cameo appearance in France’s disastrous 2-0 loss to Mexico in the World Cup, one wanders what their capricious coach, Raymond Domenech, will do next. Valbuena will be in the shop window if he starts in this Wednesday’s game against South Africa.

Ferguson, I’m told, still feels Anderson can come good and is reluctant to let him go, but, if Valbuena is added to the deal he may be persuaded to pull the trigger.

I'd be cautious about selling Anderson. I still fancy him to do a Nani and prove everyone wrong. We don't really have any depth in the centre unless Ferguson thinks that Gibson is going to make the grade and step up his game.

people are stupid if they think selling anderson is a good idea at this stage

You only get so many chances at United.

Time to get rid, people are fooling themseleves if they believe he'll come good at Manchester.

Like said be crazy to let him go now. He has shown he has the potential.

All these people saying he won't ever get better for us obviously have short memorys.

Have to agree.Been patient with Anderson hoping that he would come good but i honestly believe we won't see the best of him.

I can't see any team going in for him until they know how he is going to come back from the injury - which would be in the January transfer window.

Be very irresponsible of them.

For top teams yes, but for other sides its gambles like that which net them good players.

I'm still hopeful for him. besides... we're hardly blessed with a wealth of quality in that department.

Why do people get to read this kind of shit?? Why do people get paid for writing. My little sister can do better than that. At least she is honest.

Still have hopes for him, he did show good signs last season before injury. Would love to see him in a more of an attacking role rather than a holding role.

I just don't care one way or the other, if Fergie decides he's sick of Anderson then I'll not be bothered, if he decides to give him one more season then so be it.

Valbuena has been a revelation under Didier Deschamps, helping the club to the Ligue 1 title this past season.

Is this true?

Has nobody learned from what happened with Nani? Back when he was in shocking form last year even I had no qualms about the idea of selling him, but look at him now. Anderson can come good too.

That could be said of any player, there are lots of "could become good" players around, but just as many never amount to anything as actually succeed.

I think he should be given the same time as Nani. I know they were signed at the same time but Anderson has played a lot less games due to injury.

Who knows... maybe this season was both players last chance. Nani responded by starting to deliver, but Anderson was disappointing again.

Also, there were certain stories circulating about anderson's off the field antics (in nightclubs etc) which wont help his case too. my impression is that Fergie is a bit tolerant when it comes to off the field "appearances"....just as long the players are delivering on the field. which anderson did not.

I wont be surprised if he leaves.
