Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated his star striker Thierry Henry deserves to win the Ballon D’or award, that will be awarded today in Paris.
“I would give Henry both the Ballon D’Or and the FIFA World Player Award. With what we have won, and the goals that he has scored, it would be a scandal if he doesn’t,” said Wenger.

While the French Gunner could beat Ronaldinho and Deco to the FIFA award, the Ballon D’Or appears destined to end in AC Milan striker Andriy Shevcehnko’s hands.

Zagorakis in 5th?

Ballon d'Or often recognizes the top players from Euro championships despite club performances being good, bad, or inconsistent. Hence why Zagorakis scored so highly in voting and Rooney above Ruud and Baros equal to Ronaldo. And poor Euro form probably hurt Henry and definitely affected Lampard and Zidane, but propelled all Greeks on the list as well as Carvalho.

Not that I don't think Sheva deserves it (coz he thoroughly does), but I don't think Henry, who's the 4th highest score in the CL, is "mediocre". Sure, he's not as impressive as he is domestically, but mediocre...?
If we compare Henry and Sheva's seasons, I'd say they enjoyed about the same amount of success. In the CL last season, Henry scored one goal more than Sheva, and Arsenal and Milan both got as far as the QFs last season. This season, I think Henry's scored 4 and Sheva 3 so far. Of course domestically, both helped their clubs to the titles last season.

As for Euro..it's a shame that we're deprived of Sheva's brilliance on the international level... I suppose we're all happy to give him the benefit of the doubt though, right..?
