Anthony Martial | AEK Athens

Bloody hell all our ex players doing well. What's the point of selling or letting them go. Just keep them until they retire.
7 goals in 19 games in the Greek league at 29 is ‘doing well’…?

Valencia does not belong in that list he was a beast.
Actually I regret what I implied there, because as I said, I did like all those players and I think Valencia especially was someone you just couldn't fault in terms of workrate and attitude and he was actually a very good player. But the time was up for him when he left us all those years ago- I can't even recall where he went to.

I’d stop for a second and think about Martial while he was at United.

Primarily plays as LW. 9 goals and 2 assists in 19 games is a good return

In the Greek league.

Hell, I scored a couple in 5-a-side tonight, should United sign me up too?

This isn’t amusing. For starters, I think the poster that said we should keep our players until they retire was being facetious.

Nonetheless, I’m yet to see anyone arguing United should sign him, but he’s doing well and I don’t get why people feel compelled to try and dunk on it. It’s OK

Check out the fun police over here.

What is really impressive is that he has managed to play 19 games?!

My nan can play 19 games, dunno whats the fuss is all about. Athletes playing sports shocker

Oh deffo but a big fan of him. And he came back from the leg and was still wicked. Respect.

My nan play 19 games too...of Bingo. Jokes aside, happy to see he's fit, playing and scoring goals. Sad it never worked out for him here because an on-form Martial is a very good player.

It's bizarre all these players that United were paying huge wages to just bombing or retiring at much lesser clubs, Martial, Lingard, Varane, Pogba, De Gea etc, I know there's more but I can't think of them all right now. Then there's lads that weren't on big wages let go for small fees like Elanga and Gomes doing really well.

Sancho, Rashford, Malacia, Antony. They'll be another group that will be pretty much forgotten in a few years time and at Fenerbahce or Al-Alalalalal. Casemiro, Eriksen, Maguire, all of them will end up at some last pay day mid-tier club yet they're costing MU a million quid a week almost in wages.

It can't all be down to massive wage packets making them all lose enthusiasm/talent because United are definitely not the only club in Europe handing out fat contracts.

I can't speak for footballers as I've never been one, but I have worked in various industries in my 30 or so years as an adult, and all the places I've worked/managed that had a poor work ethic and lazy mentality all had the same thing in common. No fear of reprisal or loss of work. People basically knew they could put in 20% effort and nothing would ever come of it. New people would come in, work hard for a bit then realise (or get told) to forget it and just go through the motions.

For me alongside Bailly the most overrated player at United in the last ten years

I strongly dissagree we never played to his strengths except for his first season here where he could play 1-2s with Mata. He had to adapt to our shooters on the wing all of his time here except for when Bruno came in and Rashford was out injured during covid.

There was a brief period when both Rojo and Bailly performed really well, under Mourinho. I had to jot my memory to make sure I am not misremembering that, because it is a crazy CB pair. Example of what was being said at the time: https://reddevilarmada.com/2017/04/...ve-manchester-uniteds-ideal-centre-back-pair/

I think by the time Bailly left, no one rated him.
Mourinho liked them both. Thing about Bailly he was a player with everything you want in a top CB but also had a major flaw in giving one great chance away to the opponent every single match. Like a roll of a dice. If they missed that chance he was good to have.

Maybe if he didn't have fitness issues it could have been something a good manager and coaches could iron out but he was never fit enough to evolve.

Two very big flaws for a player to have.

Who rates Bailly?
There was a period where people just wanted a bit of pace and he was the only option, plus he did maradona turns in our box which spiced things up. I have no shame in saying I remember thinking when he stayed fit he was good (issue being he obviously never did).
Our defensive signings have been bloody woeful.

Literally owns the best all around season we've had from a striker since RVP but sure

Top talent but overall underperformed in his time at the club.

two good seasons out of NINE. not good enough.

Overrated by his toxic fanclub.

Who rates Bailly?

I remember he'd do a couple of spectacular clearances or moves and his legions of fanboys would feed on it for the rest of the season, like he was a Maldini & Desailly rolled into one.

Come on, he is made of glass, but when he was truly fit you could see there's class there. Mind you, I am not saying he was good for us, but at least you could see it in him.

Martial FC still lives on I see.

Cult of Fred seems to be fecking off finally to though which is good.
