Put this in another thread, but thought Madrid made a mistake not having him play the second leg last season v City after his impressive showing in the first.
That was a big feck up from Carlo, along with playing both Kroos-Modric and having Cama at LB. A lot of brainfarts for that game.

Been our best defender.

If I recall correctly, wasn't he our Plan B option if Rojo wasn't going to happen back in 2014? Funny how those 2 careers panned out in the end

Rüdiger was not that great back in 2014 though. By then he'd only played one full season of Bundesliga football for a club that finished one place above the relegation zone. Maybe you were linked with him when he was at Roma, around the time he signed for Chelsea? You bought Lindelöf that summer.

Turned the disappointment of his mistake for City goal into scoring the winning penalty. That's the kind of mentality we need to bring into this club but who out there has it this summer.

He was good for Chelsea but also prone to brain farts. Have Madrid also been excellent defensively in the league the last 2 seasons, as the praise in this thread appears universal.

Only player over the last couple of seasons that I have been truly disappointed to see leave.

This is definitely not true. He has always been a mentality monster who is consistently locked in. Thiago Silva was much more prone to brain farts during their time together.
