Good post, and sums up alot of my feelings aswell. Only thing i'd add is the social media thing which annoys me alot aswell.

The sad part is, Ed will never be sacked as he is the Glazer scrooge. While I think Jose maybe now has to be moved on, I fear for the next appointment if they aren't going to be backed by the horrible Glazers \ Woodward. It's a horrible feeling right now.
The other problem Is that even though we all ( even Jose ) want a clear out of our deadwood the problem is they have performed so poorly in recent seasons that nobody wants to buy them ( not helped by the ridiculous wages we pay them )

A couple of my United mates have said they aren’t going to watch any more games at OT until José is gone.

Not sure I agree tbh, part of supporting your team is being there even when things are very bad. I guess barren spells are part and parcel of football, albeit one we aren’t very used too as united fans (talking about Under 30 year olds such as myself.)
It's absolutely the right thing to do, boycotting matches and profits going down is the only thing that will make the Glaziers react. They are one of the main reasons the team is becoming, liverpool 2. They have starved managers of getting the best players even well before ferguson retired. The rot started in Ferguson's last 3 or four years when he miraculously still managed to win some silver wear. And, as I said previously, I think they, the Glaziers and not Woodward, have stopped Mourino from getting a top centre back which is dearly required. The present lot of defenders are not fit for purpose.

I actually felt more connected to us under both LVG and Moyes. If I were to rank contentedness since SAF it would be:

1. LVG
2. Moyes
3. Mourinho

Weird because clearly we have won more under Mourinho than the other two combined (not difficult as Moyes brings nothing to the table trophy wise), however I had my issues with Jose personality which I've stated on this forum even before he was hired, since then the one thing a thought I wouldn't be complaining about is the tactical and footballing side yet here we are and I think the football we play is dire.

Moyes I can remember feeling was doomed towards the end but I was rooting for him right up until he was sacked.

If Mourinho left tomorrow I really don't think I'd lose any sleep over it.
Pretty much this.

Massively, but it's been like that for a while now, everyone knows we are just marking time until Jose goes, then the hope for a proper change can at least return.

Yeah it’s the same for me. I’m dreading this season now, and we’re only two games in.

I still hope Mourinho can turn it all around and prove everybody wrong, but I also hoped Moyes would do that aswel. I have little faith in this happening.

I fear for us it feels a long way back to the top at the minute.

Mate from what I have witnessed under all the managers since SAF left we are miles away from winning the title. Jose was bruised a few times by Conte who took the piss and even when we had the chance of revenge at Wembley we never took it and played shite.
Still I've seen a lot worse than the shite on display atm. The team of the 70's that got relegated was absolute garbage, trust me!
Think the fans have been spoiled rotten with the bag load of trophies brought us and that is not gonna happen again in our lifetime.
We all want to win but we want to see attacking football not tactical tripe!
Still can't believe the mighty Man United could fall prey to little old Brighton, it's scandalous!
Jose................OUT!

I was just saying this to a work colleague today actually. Of course it doesn’t help that United are utter shite and have been for a fair few years, but what gets me is the prima donna players, the revolting salaries, the gutter press over here in England but probably most for me is the boring football that we have to endure in the EPL. Apart from a handful of games the premier dishes out some tripe I.e the Stokes vs the West Brom’s sort of games (I know they’re both gone but you get what I mean)
Ive stayed away from all pundit programs for years now soccer saturday and match of the day because they just bore me to death.

Sir Alex was the heart of the club. Can't replace that. He was a beacon, he was Manchester United Prime.

The only reason why we have failed, is because of lots of failed transfers and manager appointments. United is not cursed, nor does it need SAF even though he is the greatest.

Had we invested in the likes of Hazard/Aguero etc, we would have been in a much better position. Instead we invested in a lot of duds. Now good players are 40m+, and great players are 75m+. Whenever a great talent is available, we are not the prefered destination either, so with how few players in that bracket, we are being left behind.

I'm disconnected because the club is so badly run, and it hurts to see.

The buck doesn't stop just at the manager anymore. Pretty same issue working with Woodward has been voiced by 3 different regime post SAF. Perhaps, time for Woodward to be accounted for his responsibility? And that kind of change doesn't need Mourinho to leave first in a sense, a better person for that role might pull the trigger on Mourinho immediately, lest thing turn into the mess like with that briefing to the press

Disgusted would be the right word. Two games in and we already have our first loss and that against a complete and utter shite team where we conceded 3 goals and couldn't string 3 passes together resorting to hoofing it up to an elder tree tactics in 2018. This along with a manager who has made us play some of the worst football I've seen in my life and the fact that they gave him an extension and then refuse to back him in the summer is just outright pathetic. His relationship with Woodward is completely tarnished, and judging by the game against Brighton the players didn't give two fecks about him either. This won't end well I can promise you that, we are just a big mess at the moment, watching us play is depressing.

Stayed up until 4am to watch that shit.

Been feeling sick all day at work due to lack of sleep, stomach has been all over the place, eyes are sore, but I could kinda accept defeat if the team put in 100%.

They didn’t. It was unacceptable.

Very hard to feel connected when most of the players deep down aren’t passionate about the club. Some are, most aren’t.
Feel sorry for you, really. I no longer watch Man United play when they are playing late during week days, though i watched our first match on friday.
Thank you. I feel like my body can't hack these late nights and lack of sleep. Falling apart and even my wife is trying to have a word with me! Gunna be a bit more selective and watch Saturday and Champions League games. Sunday afternoon (Monday AM my time) is too much. But like I said, it would soften the blow if the players actually put 100% in. So many of them don't.

I planned to make a lengthy post about why it's turned out this way, may still do it after. But let's be honest, would people still be feeling like this right now if our team was being managed by say, Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino etc. My guess is no...
Even after Pep's first year where he barely came 4th, won sweet F.A, and got embarrassed in the CL?
Or Klopp's continued bottling of finals and failure to win anyting?
Or Poch's, er, dunno, winning nothing?

Look, "attacking" football is all the rage at the moment, I get that. But the way some fans jizz over said managers, without applying any form of common sense, and throwing all logic out the window is baffling.

Pep is clearly the most gifted tactician in world football, and Klopp + Poch are exciting trainers, no doubt about it.

But the fact still remains:
Pep - year 1 = 0; allowed the keys to the Sheik's safe to rectify any and every transfer mishaps = walked the league and will do so again.
Klopp - not won a teaspoon in yonks. All mouth breathing, no substance.
Poch - Lovely bloke but either he goes to a club where winning is paramount and tests himself or he's no different than Eddie Howe (whose teams apparently play "beautiful football" with little to no investment.

If people are serious, I should be hearing Conte's name more. Afterall, he took a 'relegation-bound' CFC and took them straight to the title and then beat Utd to the FA cup following year. Nope, he doesn't play fancy dan football. As you were.

I don't recognise the club these days but I don't recognise football anymore. I must sound like one of those bitter old blokes I'd laugh at when I first started going. Everything they said is true and more these days.

It's hard to feel sorry for managers given the salaries they get but it's an impossible job, particularly long term when you get past that 3 year mark. The personalities, the agents, the media, the support (or lack of) from the board with regards to transfers, at a club like United its pressure from all over the world. So many of this squad are so inconsistent, I end up smacking the top of my seat at least twice a game when either Rashford or Lingard are on the pitch.

I don't think the players work hard enough, there are lesser teams who work so much harder and I don't know how you deal with that. You'll always get a short term reaction in football but doing anything long term without changing someone is nearly impossible at most successful clubs.

I see very, very few 'Manchester United' players in this team. De Gea (who was poor the other day), Matic (for me). Struggling apart from that.

When I watch Utd I watch it on a foreign channel so you can't hear the ridiculous commentary or the halftime shit. As soon as the match finishes I switch off. You ought to have the option of just having the crowd noises in the background

I turned the game off at the 80th minute on Sunday. I'd honestly say I can count on one hand how many games I've missed since Fergie retired but enough is enough of this average shite.

I know United won't care if they've 1 less viewer and won't affect their results but feck if I'm wasting my time watching this shit week in week out. Football is supposed to be enjoyable, I find its like a chore watching United these days. Enjoyable is not the word I'd use to describe is as I end up feeling depressed or angry half the time watching them.

Totally agree - that kind of myopic denying of reality is just pathetic. Don't get me wrong, I take immense pleasure every time Liverpool lose (Gerrard's slip remains a genuine highlight), but I'm still capable of recognising good performances (and shit ones) when I see them

It's all about the money? You could see it on Woodwards face after the loss on Sunday. His job is on the line as well as Jose. Club has turned into a money making franchise like team from USA. As long as we get top 4 good run in CL. Maybe win a cup there happy sponsors money keeps coming OT, will always be pretty sold out every game 76000 or so more money.

The football is not nice to watch , frustrating, I'm not the one to shout for a manager to have sack, but he has to go but also Woodward has to as well. Were a team of also ran. Long season of ups and downs. A bit like the 80s but football was better.

I think a less stale, more enthusiastic manager trying to implement more attractive football would go a long way to reviving interest. Some things are here to stay (the rampant commercialisation of the club, the occasional crassness of Ed “Disneyland” Woodward, greedy agents etc) but we would not get so bothered about such things if things were right on the pitch. If someone as untested as Southgate can turnaround in one month over 12 years of growing apathy/antipathy towards England, it should not be mission impossible for a leading club coach (but one on the way up this time) to do the same at United.

I think it’s even simpler than that.

It’s all about results. If we win 15 games in a row - whether or not half of them are dour one nil wins - then I can 100% guarantee that the mood on here will change completely. Everyone will fall in love with the players again and nobody will be even the tiniest bit bothered by a noodle sponsor announcement.

I think the scenario you describe might help the mood if we’re not winning football matches. But not for long.

We are not winning the title under Mourinho anyway. Might as well start to move into the modern world of football, with a manager who has an attacking philosophy with high pressing, passing between the lines etc.

I get what you say about the supposed 'Manchester Utd way,' but there was a season under SAF where we won a lot of dour games 1-0 and invariably Cantona scored. No one complained as the football was very positive and teams did tend to park the bus against us.

Fact is, wins do change the mood

Who do we get in to manage us now though?

Poch has just signed a 5 year contract. Don't think Zidane is the right guy. Realistically who is out there that could take on the job? Can't see Simeone leaving Atletico as they must be a real chance for La Liga this year. Allegri has a real shot at CL now that Ronaldo has joined Juve so he's not going anywhere.

There were plenty of average games but maybe it is my memory nowhere near as regularly as we have had over the last 5 years.
I can't remember us being so frequently out played, out passed and worse out fought.

If we were behind it was a given that we would fight to the end. The lack of attacking play is a serious concern but the lack of fight in this team is embarrassing.

So I've had a bit to drink today and I'm now waiting at a bus stop in Spain with free wi-fi so this might not make any sense.

But does anyone else feel a bit out of it when it comes to United.

Don't get me wrong. I love the club and all it stands for. But the United I have known for so long is gone. Gone are the class of 92. Giggs was the last remaining link to my childhood club. He was quickly disregarded as he probably wouldn't have been successful.

But the way LVG was dismissed after winning a trophy really angers me. One of our own scored a cracking cup final goal to win the FA cup and within 24 hours the manager had gone and we'd brought in another.

Gone are the days we had long standing players who loved United. I'm not even talking about a Giggs or a Scholes but someone like Rafael or Evra. Someone who you can get behind because they "get" us.

Another thing is the youth. I just don't see them progressing under Mourinho. Players like CBJ, TFM and Rashford really excite me and I want them to get a chance but I don't know. The fact Mourinho didn't go and watch the reserves the other day isn't inspiring.

Same with Mourinho. I know it's simplistic but in my head he's not one of "us". I associate him with one of our rivals. He'd have to be here five or so years (unlikely) before he was known more as our manager than Chelsea's. For years (along with others) I've hated him. Seems galling to accept him now.

And our transfer dealings are somewhat out of the norm. Giving a rumoured 20 million to an agent? Being part of a club who gives more money to them than any other club in England? Why. It feels cheap. Paying world record fees is a bit... Crap. If Pogba succeeds, great, he's the world's most expensive player. If he flops then it's even more annoyinng that so much is spent on a waste of space.

Basically I'm worried about our lack of "United." I come on here and see fans slating Lingard and other home grown players. Mourinho one of the biggest enemies of the club in recent years now runs us. We are outspending all of our rivals (which is a bit annoying). The youth is disappearing (only rumours)

Is this the price of modern football? Am I just an idealistic knob?
I feel a bit disconnected too,I”ve felt this way since LVG joined the club to be fair. We”ve lost our identity and obviously we”ve also lost players who we were emotionally attached too.Rio,Evra,Giggs,Scholes,Rooney etc were more than good players,we felt a strange sort of emotional connection with them because they won trophies together and because they played under SAF.I don’t feel the same way about our players and manager anymore, even though I still love the club as much as before....

This is exactly it and one of the issues with the club.

I'm not saying Mourinho should be sacked but why give him a contract extension only to not back him in the summer? Now we are once again in a position where no one is available even if we did sack him.

We are always reactive rather than proactive in everything we do at the moment, both on and off the pitch.

Disagree. The last few years of Fergie were pretty dour affairs style-wise (the exception of 2010-2011, which I always find to be an underrated season for some reason.) Nevertheless, I loved those seasons, even if the so-called zombie football could be a bit tiring at times.

I honestly think we are one of the worst run clubs but a fantasticly run business. We need changes of structure and football people into running the club . That said I would mostly love us to hire a positive manager who wouldnt be picking up fights with all and everything . I really hate the aura surrounding us .

People feel disconnected not because of the lack of love for the club and the squad itself.

It's long term, it's been building for last 5 years since Fergie left. Its having 3 of the worst footballing style managers on the planet one after another...and winning nothing significant. Yes Europa league, but I mean premier league titles. We also have no direction in our styles or pregresssion in our play. The future likes bleak as we have to start over again once this Mourinho fiasco is finished after he leaves. We have an ex banker who knows f all about football. He should of got a consultant to see how top clubs arrange their clubs like Man city did. He was naive, and he will make fixes to that with technical director.

Sums it up really

In my life experience being a supporter of team (if you are not from the city in question) is a strong emotional and highly illogical connection. Its the cast of team characters, the personality of the manager, the fervour of the other fans or even something as stupid as how the jersey looks. For me that all came together in 1995 and the period just after. Now every part of that original connection is gone. I still watch every game and cheer them on or feel gutted when they lose, but it all feels kind of fake, like I'm going through the motions. Don't feel any emotional connections to it right now. I hope it comes back but the current United version fails to inspire.

Like some have said it is harder to love your team when there is very little coming back. I cheered like a nutter when Matic scored that winner against Palace last season. The problem is we don't have those long-term heroes who have won big trophies at the club. They are all on TV slagging us off.

5 years into the post Fergie era has also seen Vidic, Rio, Evra, Rooney, Carrick, Giggs etc retire or leave. Even with the best planning in the world that is hard to replace in talent but also the emotional connection.

Yeah to absolute bewilderment.

We’d still be anxious about things if they were unimpressive wins. Though 1-0s would at least make us look solid as fcuk.

We’d be loving the defensive resolve and making up songs about wanting to have Bailly’s children.

Chelsea were historically a club that played open, expansive football but their fans lapped up the whole “one nil” stuff under Mourinho when they were winning the league. Ditto Arsenal under George Graham. We like to think we’re a special breed of fans but we’re just like the rest of them. We sing when we’re winning.
