Watched this at the weekend. Worth a watch for any zombie fans out there. Its a prequel to Z nation which I hated, but this was surprisingly good. Or maybe my expectations were just really low :D. If you like zombie stuff, give it a go.

I liked the first episode (haven’t seen anymore). It doesn’t do anything different it seems but it’s a decent watch so far.

I liked it up until the last ep and a half. Ending was shite but overall was a decent watch.

I get what you mean, but like everything with zombies the good stuff is few and far between. IMO this is closer to the good than the bad. Definitely enjoyed it a lot more than the last few seasons of the walking dead. Worth a punt if you like zombie stuff and dont expect too much.

I started it blindly when it popped up on my account and stopped it when I realized it was a zombie show. The last Zombie anything I enjoyed was season one of Z Nation

I've been watching on my lunches at work. It's decent but also infuriating sometimes.

Oh my god this whole episode I was shouting at the screen. That guy is dumb as feck and deserves to die.

The amount of times him (and other characters) have gone through doors and NOT CLOSED THEM BEHIND THEM. That is so basic zombie 101. Also he goes into a supermarket with AUTOMATIC DOORS and just jaunts around.

Then the axe thing. My god.

I'm enjoying it more than I did with the later seasons of Walking Dead though. For me there's a sweet spot in zombie related shows/films which is just after the outbreak where everything is still new and chaotic and everyone is just kinda winging it, compared to when it becomes how we live as societies years later and the zombies become secondary.

Totally agree. The urgency, the calamity, of a fresh zombie apocalypse is fun viewing. Watching people run around pushing lock knifes through bone like butter isn’t exactly a thrill. The walking dead has turned into a hugging show. That’s all they really do anymore. Run around, get into some stupid situation, get out of stupid situation, go home, hugs all round.

Isn't this some sort of prequel to Z Nation? Not sure as I haven't seen Z Nation but I think I read that somewhere. I didn't mind this. The end was flat though.

Quite enjoying the lack of dialogue as well

There's a bearded bloke with the group who has been with them for like 4 episodes now and I don't think he's said a single word  There's no 10 minute mourning scenes if anyone dies as well. They just go to the next thing.

I think I’m at roughly the same point and they all deserve to die for just being stupid as hell. In a way I think it’s bad writing as I really can’t imagine anyone doing these dumb things in these situations.

Got really irked at the
car chase scene, why the hell would you ram your only mode of transport engine first in to a truck that must seriously outweigh your car by quite a bit and even then have a truck bed that is in a great place to screw up your engine.

Don’t even want to get started on the not
shifting your car from left to right if someone is on top of it to shake them off rather than just accelerating and breaking

Now this dumb fooker is shouting for people in the street.

I genuinely don’t understand Zombies at all. Just as a thing. The whole shebang absolutely baffles me. Like, how can millions and millions of people watch so much near identical media about the exact same, slow moving, incredibly boring threat? I mean, the subversive or arty outliers like Sean or Busan I get, sure... but the sheer endless suffocating amount of middle ground bog standard, near identical, boring as all feck shuffling zombie apocaplyse bollocks, is just absolutely insane to me!

What is it!? WHY IS IT INTERESTING!? Someone explain it to me, please!? It’s genuinely upsetting me.

As a zombie fanboy, I’ll tell you a sobering fact. I can count on one hand how many things I’ve seen that were great. The majority of the time it’s all utter dog shit rejected Scooby doo scripts crossed with murder porn. The general idea is that zombie fans like seeing the kills and the gore. But it’s not the guy with m60 in one hand with a game genie plugged into the ammo feed that’s gets us moist. It’s the claustrophobic, paranoid nature of being surrounded and hunted by a relentless enemy that could be anyone.

Or maybe, deep down, it’s because we love tag. And zombies is like the ultimate game of tag.

But yes, the vast majority of zombie movies are straight up trash.

The zombies in this show move quick! I get your point though, im done with Zombies. I quit TWD in season 3. I really enjoyed season one of Z Nation though, its pretty campy. I didn't have the inclination to force myself to watch season 2. The thrill is gone

Can only speak for myself but I haven't been burned out on it yet. It's just a setting anyway, the story can include many elements. This was okay, only seen the first couple...

Anyone watched episode 7?

I don't understand why
the two soldiers didn't reanimate after she shot them in the tunnel. She didn't even shoot the fella on the left in the head.

I think there's also an element of the loneliness amongst the chaos that's appealing after the claustrophia and being hunted.

Also the tag. It's all about the tag.

To be fair you get different kind of zombies, they’re not always the same.
In world war z (great film) you’ve got the usain bolt zombies who aren’t actually cannibals.
Walking dead you’ve got the slow anorexic zombies who are fairly shit but very disruptive.
Then you’ve got dawn of the dead/28 days later zombies. The ultimate, fast, strong, blood thirsty zombies.

As a zombie fanboy, I’ll tell you a sobering fact. I can count on one hand how many things I’ve seen that were great. Yeah, echo this. I’ve seen so many zombie films and most are utter crap but I still keep searching. I dunno but when you do get that 1 in 10 that is good. It’s so satisfying.

“It’s the claustrophobic, paranoid nature of being surrounded and hunted by a relentless enemy that could be anyone“

Yeah, and you kind of want to experience it even though you know t can never happen.

I like the survivalist stuff - I loved in the Walking Dead when they converted the prison and set up defences, the farm, water collection etc. I wish there was more of that in shows, movies and games but they alway end up ruining things with shitty over the top human enemies.

I thought the first State of Decay game was brilliant for that. You had to think about setting up your base, defenses and your supply runs. Even the noise of your weapons mattered. Brilliant game, unfortunately the sequel was a bit cack.

Oh it's definitely not just you . It was probably my most anticipated game last year, but it was such a let down. You couldn't get peace to do anything because your allies were constantly moaning at you for stuff and if you didn't do what they wanted they turned on you. It was a bit too much like being in a relationship for my tastes.

Got days gone on preorder, so fingers crossed that doesn’t turn into the same anti climatic snoozefest.

There's a crowd funded game in production called Dead Matter which looks like it could be brilliant for this.

That’s a shame. I still haven’t started this because I have been watching Barry.

Might give it a miss then.

Thoughts on season 2? Just finished watching it, pretty intense stuff. Lots of karma moments. Pretty much every character wants to end anything that moves and are solely out for themselves.

Season 1 was brilliant. It builds suspense and mystery which makes it interesting. The episode in the abandoned school was unreal i thought.

Looking forward to watching season 2.

Finished season 2 last night. Plus points, the action is intense and awesome. The opening scene of the first episode was brilliant. The bad points, it’s went a little walking dead. Groups of humans frightening each other (usually with no real reason)with the zombies pushed to the back ground. I also don’t care about any of the characters. If someone dies, they die and they won’t be missed or even thought about again. The closest exception to this might be a character in the final episode who has one hell of an action sequence.

I can’t recommend this show for anything other than the action. The dialogue is ok, the acting is ok, the story is meh, but the action really stands out. The hectic, desperate running away from the zombies is so well done and really does bring that sense of dread.
