He didn't get sent off, that's about the best you can say about his performance.
The problem is, a lot of Bruno's passes reach their target, so they count as "successful". But a lot of the passes themselves are either underhit or overhit and don't put the receiver in the best position.
Eriksen can play there, and should.
I think Mount is based placed to offer the alternative EtH is comfortable with. His injury record forms part of my "thin" assessment. Eriksen is a fair shout, hopefully he can stay fit.No excuse in my opinion. Any of Zirkzee, Amad and Eriksen can play as a 10 and probably more effective than Bruno at the moment. Similarly we could bring in Ugarte or Casemiro and solidify the midfield.
This is a very good point that is only true for Bruno.
Now it's fair to add that it's true for many of our players, it's one of our general issues.

Case in point, that cross field pass to Garnacho in the 2nd half (when Bruno had 2 or 3 easier options on the edge of the box), which arrived at Garnacho at head height and he just about managed to keep in play before being outnumbered by Villa players.
I assume that counts as a "successful" pass because it reached its intended target? But it didn't give Garnacho any chance to control it or put him in a dangerous position.
I heard someone online describe Bruno as the delivery man who'll deliver the package to your address, but it'll be dumped on the lawn or your driveway, not through your letterbox!
There was a passage of play in the second half where he was around the edge of their box with players offering for the ball but instead he tried his usual Hollywood switch out to Garnacho and lost the ball. How bad does he have to play to get subbed? Please please please stop trying stupid flicks and tricks in your own half. He was dreadful again today.
I've been a big advocate for getting in a more productive attacking midfielder for years, the guy loses the ball too often for my liking and his goals have dried up.
Instead of reading threads or looking up stats, might i suggest watching games instead?90% passing accuracy, reading this thread it looks like he was Villa's main man.
Watched, he wasn't good but this thread is a little OTT.Instead of reading threads or looking up stats, might i suggest watching games instead?
Vividly remember that. Other than the free kick unfortunately nothing much worked for him in this match too.Not only his short passing is bad, there was a moment in the first half where we were trying to keep hold of the ball but then he decided to play 30-40 yards cross field pass to Garnacho, who was near the touch line with two Aston Villa players near him so he couldn’t have done much even if the pass was inch perfect but of course he overhit it and ended up losing another needless possession.
The footballing IQ and technical consistency of our players are really on another level.
So your criticism is that the amount of criticism towards the player isn't equal to the amount you consider as correct?Watched, he wasn't good but this thread is a little OTT.
FYI, some of us don't work like this "best player considering" type of things. Him being the best (or "top 5") of a bad bunch is still enough to warrant criticism. This whole "compare our players to each other" thing has lost a bit substance given that we aren't really good anymore.Bruno is held to a much higher standard than the rest of our players. You’d think he was one of our worst players every game to read RedCafe when the reality is he’s very, very rarely outside of our top 5 performers in a given game.
Was fine again today. Definitely no worse than Rashford, Hojlund, Zirkzee, Garnacho, Antony, Eriksen, Casemiro or Mainoo
And most importantly yes, players like Mainoo have also been atrocious this season. The fact of the matter though is that he's not out captain and on 300k a week, so of course expectations should be different. We're paying Bruno like he's one of the best players in the league but he sure ain't performing like one. That alone warrants criticismSo your criticism is that the amount of criticism towards the player isn't equal to the amount you consider as correct?

Very true, and it’s very underlooked when people are rating passers of the football. I always loved how Pogbas passes were always hit with the right weight to the right spot to make the recieving players next action easier. The best passers all do thisThe problem is, a lot of Bruno's passes reach their target, so they count as "successful". Interesting take. Think he plays exactly the same as he ever did. Only difference is his starting position while pressing.I can see why the manager has pushed him higher up the pitch…So his lack of ball retention isn’t as big of an issue.
But his creativity from midfield is missed badly.
The Bruno we are seeing this season is almost the worst of him, no creativity and still giving the ball away.

Exactly this, and the frustration gets compounded when we know he won't be dropped regardless of what kind of performance he serves upSometimes stats back up what you see and sometimes they don't give you full information. If you watched yesterday's game you'd say Bruno was at best just ok.
Aye, there was another one with Garnacho on the left when Bruno spread it wide to him from central midfield, wasn't a particularly long pass, but it forced Garnacho to slow and turn which stopped a quick break.
I remember this pass, We have a lot of these moments as a team by the way. Im constantly saying underneath my breath “thats a bad pass” because we are full of passes that kill momentum.
Who remembers him.going for a halfway line shot in the fa cup final when we were defending for our lives against city in injury time?Who remembers about the 29th minute he tried to backheel flick the ball in the middle of the pitch while there were 2 Villa players around him, instead of just retaining possession.
Villa then broke down our left hand side and but for a poor Barkley touch probably would have scored.
Utterly brain dead.
My eyes were bleeding watching this. Why can’t he make things simple ffs. I don’t see this happening in city or arsenal when they’re playing. Surely coaching teams suggests this to him as things to improve but he does not give a shit. The same way he does not care about pressing structure when he goes alone chasing keeper.Who remembers about the 29th minute he tried to backheel flick the ball in the middle of the pitch while there were 2 Villa players around him, instead of just retaining possession.

Was that the one that Garnacho had to use his head on? Back in the day when we had good players, that pass would have been at his feet so he could do something other than try to control the ball with his first 2 touches. That really stuck in my mind as to how far this team has slipped. Not only his short passing is bad, there was a moment in the first half where we were trying to keep hold of the ball but then he decided to play 30-40 yards cross field pass to Garnacho, who was near the touch line with two Aston Villa players near him so he couldn’t have done much even if the pass was inch perfect but of course he overhit it and ended up losing another needless possession.
