For a team that wants to compete for several titles, yes. Who controls the midfield has more chances to collect more points. Cruyff was probably one of the persons who spoted this "tactical feature".
For midtable teams / relegation battlers not really: with the budget available + the players they can atract to sign for their clubs it's usually better to have a working midfield, a couple of pacey wingers + mobile striker or pacey wingers + target striker so they can launch quick counters.
If eventually a midtable team manage to assemble a functional complete midfield, it's usually a bonus.
