Terrible challenge. Mctominay is tough. Took a few hard hits today and didn't stop him
Mist the first part of the game. How is this not a pen![]()
To be fair from the refs angle it looks like two players going for a header and colliding. It's far more clear-cut from the replay from the right side where you see Mctominay being wiped out. When I saw it live I didn't think it was a penalty, but on the replay I did.

It was a flashback to the terrible refereeing in the Schumacher collision with Battistion in the 80’s and Ndoye in the Champions League against Barca in 2010.
Those two situations were worse though IMO even though all 3 should have been clear red cards.
I really feel referees should have temporarily bans for missing so clear situations of violent conduct (given their view is good etc). It shows they have no common sense and can’t step up to their mark when it really matters.

Should be demoted, he was absolutely rubbish today. One of the worst ref 'performances' I can remember seeing in the PL, and that takes some serious doing.
I get your point if he had a second viewing by VAR but the ref had a perfect view of the incident without the use for it.Without wanting to start any debate on this thread, i'll just mention that you'll never hear that this was an incident where VAR could have been applied perfectly from its firm detractors. A review of the challenge while McTominay was still getting treatment on the pitch and then, as soon as he gets up, a penalty to us and a red card for the Huddersfield defender. Just saying....
For me this is one of those occasional situations where it should be a red card but not a penalty. Because the player is clearly endangering the safety of others on the field, but he also isn't actually stopping a goalscoring opportunity. I wonder whether the ref didn't give it because he didn't feel the challenge was denying anything in an attacking sense (as the ball had gone). Feel like the rules need to be changed for situations like this.

What? A penalty is nothing more than a foul inside the box. Denying a goalscoring opportunity has absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever.
Where did you get the idea penalties are awarded for denying goal-scoring opportunities? Someone can be running away from the goal and not in possession of the ball but if they get tripped up inside the box it’s still a penalty.

Yer i saw that too disgusting how they all laughed it off as Jose was calm but had they not won like that's football tough luck kind of thing they were doing. if it was one of our players they would go on and on about it or if it happened to the media favoured managers aka pep and klopp. Can he still get a suspension or something as I thought if ref saw it and did something they cant over turn it ?Match of the Day had a laugh and barely mentioned how shocking of a decision. If it was Liverpool or City, they'd be spending 10 minutes on this.
Oh, nothing more than "obstruction" was it? ....and there was me thinking it was a career threatening piece of thuggery....I’d feel sorry for some of you lot playing in the ASV Sunday league if you class that as violent conduct. Was probably a pen but he’s gone to win the header and isn’t looking at him. Just brought in more momentum and has collided with him whilst trying to get a head on the ball. He’s failed to get a head on it and obstructed McTominay so it’s a foul, but violent conduct no chance.

It was bordering GBH.
