Just to get this straight. I’m not sure?

The 2 x countries with the highest coefficients get an extra CL place.

So say England has this. We would have 5 places. What happens if Liverpool also win Europa? Do we get a 6th place? Or is there a cap of 5 places per country?

I can't be bothered to verify, but I'm fairly sure that the EL winner's spot isn't handed down in the league, if they also qualify from there.

There is no cap. In theory there could be 7 English clubs in the CL. 4 normal spots, 1 coefficient spot (current season country coefficients only) and 1 each for CL/EL winners if they finish outside of top 5.

The CL/EL winner spots are reserved only for the winners. If they qualify directly through the league the knock-ons happen way down the pyramid. For example a country ranked around 10-12th (in the 5 season country coefficients) will get that automatic spot instead of a play-off spot. That vacant play-off spot is then filled with someone from the 3rd qualifying round and so on. For this reason every season there are various clubs from smaller leagues rooting for teams that are directly qualified to win the CL/EL.

Pretty sure the CL winner finishing outside top 4/5 takes away one of those spots. Unless, they've changed the rule.

They changed it. About a decade ago, in fact.

The new change is that now if both CL and EL winners come from outside the top 4/5, it won't result in one spot being taken away.

Whats the latest on this, is England still on course for a bonus place?
Yes. But it’s now becoming a 2 horse race for 1 place, Italy are very close to securing thhe first position… Last night wasn’t good enough for England. Germany has a tough route to the top 2. France could be back in it… England is still the favourite. Arsenal and Aston Villa have to win next week.
