Genuinely got no idea on the team if Mourinho decides to go 3 at the back again.

    De Gea

    Bailly Smalling Rojo
    Valencia Herrera Pogba Blind
    Mkhitaryan
    Rashford Martial/Mata?
Also think it's going to be a 3-4-1-2, but have my doubts on Blind starting and Mata's certainly not there.

Did you go 3 at the back today in preparation for us? Bless.

Keep getting yourself excited. We went 3 at the back because of Rostov forwards, directness and the horrible pitch, We are coming to the Bridge with 4-2-3-1, Mkhi playing behind Rashford. Good luck.

Europa league is the most important cup left to fight for. It's a trophy and guarantees CL football next year.

?? You need the CL spot much more than this imho

    :confused::confused:
    On what criteria?!

Strange post. FA cup is the least important cup left.

CL spot aside, I still value the FA Cup as the third most lucrative trophy after the CL and the PL. The idea of winning a trophy as a mean to qualify for another competition is something I find a bit small time. I'd much rather win the FA Cup than Europe's second tier competition. And I still believe we will qualify for the CL naturally by securing top four finish.

There is nothing small time about qualifying for Champions league. We will be fools to go FA Cup and sacrifice Europa League. Get your shit together ffs.

Would be perfect time to test the formation even more. Sure, it'd be great to beat Chelsea at the bridge, but wouldn't be awful if our schedule opened up just a bit either. Also would be happy to see Jose tinkering with something he might need to consider next season in the league again.

The good thing about our line-up against Rostov is that many players will be fully rested and ready for the Chelsea game. I expect De Gea, Shaw, Bailly, Valencia, Carrick, Martial and Rashford (Not sure about Mata starting) to start.

    My line-up would be:

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera Pogba
    Mkhi Rashford Martial

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata
    Mkhi Rashford Martial

    My lineup.

    -------De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Shaw
    ----Herrera Carrick
    ---Mata Micky Pogba
    -------Rashford

Think we will give it a good go and not get battered like the last match but I cannot see anything but Chelsea winning this tie especially with no replays anymore.

    2-1 or 3-1

Let's not field a b-team... but a "second a-team". Rest who is tired and who is needed for Rostov.

If we cant get Cl via the league EL od the way to go. Second tier pr not its still a European trophy and the one we haven't ever won.

3-0 for the Russians I predict.

They have the league in the pocket so now the extra motivation will be to win the FA Cup. They'll be fresh, rested and at home. Hard to see this Chelsea team not winning against us.

They may be less shinning than in October, but they're more than able to destroy us, especially if we defend like we did against Bournemouth, Saint-Etienne etc , we'll be trashed.

I'm very worried about this game after such a long trip too. The lads will come back this morning at Manchestern will train (or do some rest) this afternoon, then train lightly on Saturday and heading to London on Sunday afternoon... So very little time to prepare.

Of course I'd go for full strengh and I won't play 3-4-3, as our players are not intelligent enough to play this system.

I'd play Rojo left back, even if he's poor, he can be better than Blind against Pedro (even if I'd play Shaw).
Lingard and Mkhi on the wings that can track back Alonso and Moses.
Rashford to play the counters (him or Rooney so no really choices)

    -------------------------------------De Gea-------------------------------------
    Valencia-------------------Bailly--------------Smalling--------------------Rojo
    -------------------------------------Carrick--------------------------------------
    Lingard--------------------Herrera-----------Pogba----------------Mkhitaryan
    ------------------------------------Rashford--------------------------------------

I just love how players have been dropped for performances less shit than what Pogba has produced the last 3 or 4 games. He's probs still first on the team sheet though. He's our new Rooney. Pooney.

    Yes definitely that.

He'll be bullied again by Kante in midfield and will do nothing more than running and loosing balls.

I think that he should play this game and then be subbed against Rostov, nevertheless Mou has no balls to put him and Ibra on the bench

Haha! You can't just say CL spot aside, that's the whole point of winning it. Winning a trophy and at the same time Qualifying for the CL is small time? So by your logic what would you call only finishing 4th to qualify for a competition?

Well, we lack better options in midfield, and we did spend 89m on him.
That said, it's a big game and there'll be pressure on him. I expect another PogBottle of a performance.

Not concerned about the result. The match is not that important for us. We ended our FA cup drought last year so not winning it again is fine.

However, it is a match against a top side and we have been very poor against quality oppostion throught the season. This match gives us an oppurtunity to judge how good we really are and I hope the players are up for it.

I think that we were pretty good against Arsenal and Spurs at home, better than City the second half and we were equal to Pool during the two games. So we've been poor against Chelsea, yes for sure, and I'll add that away from home, against these sides, we are not that good (Chelsea, Pool, Everton...)

If we get beat narrowly after giving them a good game and win convincingly against Rostov on the following Thursday then I would be content. I would be ecstatic if we were to win both, but I think we have to be realistic when managing expectations. Whilst I value the FA cup and getting one over Chelsea I still think that the best way to qualify for the Champions League is via the Europa League. Winning it guarantees us a Champions League spot instantly whereas only securing a 4th finish in the PL, and it looks more likely that this is the best position we can achieve, only gets us into a position where we still have to qualify for the tournament.

Not feeling confident. We always struggle at their stadium and refereeing is generally shocking here. Ibra is out so other players like Pogba really need to step up but unfortunately I don't see it happening. It's a big game and we really struggle this year to win any important game.

Chances of finding a ticket for this one on the day? Any particular pub I should go to?

Drop him for who though? Fellaini? Carrick? we have a serious lack of options in midfield. Pogba has to play whether he's good or not tbh. Even Pogba on a bad day is better than Fellaini lol.

Courtfield pub on Earls Court Rd right next to the station. Usually where United fans start off. I got a few tickets there for the 5-4 game a few years ago.

We should be looking at a 4-4-2 / 4-4-1 formation this weekend.

countering the 3-4-3 is tricky, but the way to beat it will be using the fullbacks to carry the ball forward.

Hazard and Pedro will not follow their runners all the way back, we need to use link up play down the flanks as that's where the space will be.

When defending keeping a narrow back 4, with the wingers man marking the wing backs is the best way forward. Let Pogba/Herrera close Matic/Kante, the 2CB will need to keep busy with Costa.

When Hazard goes roaming IMO Valencia should man mark him. If we let him drop into the space behind midfield he will cause us havoc.

The issue with that is when they get the ball back, which they're phenomenal, they usually have 3/4 players straight forward and can cause us issue with balance especially if our full backs play high.

I would play Carrick in front of the defense to add another body there, with two wide players who can man mark their wingers.

Well 1 fullback should only be pushing forward at a time, with the defence then shuffling across. There should also be 1 CM sitting deeper to compensate so that's 4 players against their attacking 3.

Yes we could play 4-3-3, but leaving Rashford alone against 3 good defenders he will be badly isolated. the wide men will have to track back regularly so unless we manage to keep posession well we will be on the back foot all game. Tricky how to go about it really.

    Would like to see this

Am I the only one who doesn't really care about this game? My mind is already looking forward the second leg against Rostov next week. The Europa League is all that matters to us now.

I hope its only you. Its an FA Quarter Final against Chelsea. EVERYONE should be excited for this!

God all the pessimism and people suddenly not caring about the FA cup in this thread

Rashford, Martial and Mkhi will cause them all sorts of problems.

I'm not optimistic. Not because Chelsea is better than us this season, which they are, but

    1. We're not in a great of form.
    2. Pogba, our main man in midfield, is not in a great form too.
    3. And he usually disappeared in big matches (so far this season).
    4. And Jones is in bad form.
    5. No Ibra.
    6. Our records at SB were always shit.

So will just enjoy the match and hopefully no injury happens. Guess score prediction is for 90 minutes so gives it 1-1. After that, only God knows.
