It really is!
I recommend getting Showbox if you have an Android phone (Google it and the link for the apk should be the first result), and buying Allcast from the Playstore which lets you cast the streams on to the TV. I literally have no need for Netflix these days because of those two apps, HD streams, premium layout of the Showbox app and it updates the day after every show is aired, be it here or in America.

So three years ago, I bought a nice tv. Then I connected a decent but not too expensive PC to it. So my TV is also my PC monitor, and it works excellent.

I don't use netflix or anything by the way, I just download things I want to see. Or I watch regular TV.

How does that compare to a chromecast?

I got one the other day, really impressed.

Only issue I'm having is it won't stream American Netflix.

It was well worth the £18, it also came with a £5 Blink box voucher so got a free film too.

Just downloaded these two.

Do you have to download the films or can you just stream them directly?

You just stream them right to the chromecast on the tv, you can also watch them right on your phone with it too. No need to download it.

Chromecast you can say is like a wireless hdmi, and you 'cast' stuff from your device onto the tv that the chromecast is plugged in to. Showbox is a must have app for it too, it has most tv shows and movies out there, or at least I've never not found anything on there. All free, apart from buying the actual chromecast device which was around 30-40$ here in Canada.

Basically, when you click on the film/show you want to watch. Press the "watch now" tab and uncheck the box which says "play with internal player". When you do that, the list of available players should come up. Choose Allcast and wait the required amount of time (usually less than 5 seconds for a TV show, and a little longer for a film) and it'll come up on your TV. The HD while not flawless, is more than good enough, especially considering it's free.

Would i be able to see a football stream on my tv with it?
Download Mobdro and you will. The quality is not great, especially on the bigger screens, but it does the job and I should imagine it will improve in time. It was only added in the last month or so, so there are still the odd kinks here and there.

Sounds great thanks.
I'm so fed up with Sky here in Austria. They only show 3 games per week. And the laptop is not really an alternative when I have mates over...

You can stream on your laptop and cast the tab onto your CC. It is an amazing piece of technology. I have 2 now, 1 in my room, 1 downstairs.

Basically, as the other poster said, it's a wireless HDMI dongle. While it won't do exactly the same as mirroring your PC would, the fact that it cuts down on wires is a massive plus, and it lets you use your phone as a remote essentially. YouTube and Netflix work brilliantly. I stream 1080p quality vids from those apps on to my TV with little hassle, and I am on a poxy 7mb connection in my flat.
In terms of sport, both the BTSport app and now Sky (via their NOWTV app) use Chromecast integration so you can watch the football legitimately on your TV. Though, atm NOWTV is SD, while BT is HD.

I tried the aul allcast(free version)/showbox combo last night. I don't have Chromecast so tried to get it directly on to my blu ray player, but it didn't really work. It never really loaded properly and wouldn't play. Allcast kinda worked with videos and pictures I had on my phone however, and also showbox worked when I played the videos on my phone.

Will Chromecast solve this, or is it cause I'm using the free version of allcast, or is it something else?

Yeah, it is good, but I must warn you, if you use the Chromecast option, the quality is not great at all. Depending on your phone, you will be able to mirror the phone screen on to the TV. I have found that the quality is much better if you cast Mobdro in that mode rather than the usual Chromecast button in the app.

Yeah, Chromecast will do it easily. It works perfectly in my experience, but I have heard for other people that other players like Avia and Bubbleup'n'up work better, so it's best to find the one that works for you. If you do get Allcast though, the Premium version will be needed, only costs a £ or 2, and worth every penny, and then some. The free version won't work for the whole duration of the film/show. IIRC, it is limited to 30 seconds or a minute of casting.

Ignore my stupidity. I hadn't installed Allcast.

Working brilliantly now, it has a huge range of shows and new films.

You might want to check out DTV India for football and sports streams.

Thanks for the advice.
Is it different if I send a good ace stream from the laptop?

If you mean an Ace Stream from the laptop via Chromecast, then it won't work unfortunately. If you connect the laptop via a wire however, then it will. The quality will probably be better with minimal lag, but it's the wire that's a pain. Especially if you have toddlers around.

I use vipbox.tv for streams and tab cast to my tv. It works absolutely fine. All from a laptop of course.

If you screen mirror modbro from your phone, the only problem is that you have to keep your screen on. You can't lock your phone. Huge battery drain.

Yeah, it's an amazing app. It's like Netflix but you're not sat twiddling your thumbs for months for the rights of your favourite show to be bought. The layout is really impressive too.
I can literally count on one hand, the shows that I now stream via PC. Showbox has met almost all my needs. The only show that I am not able to watch on it is Franklin and Bash, everything else is there.

Ah right, I didn't know vipbox streamed in html5. I assumed it was Flash. Will definitely take that into consideration the next time I need to watch something though, many thanks ;)
Yeah, that's the bad thing about Mobdro with mirror cast. I suppose it will need to be connected via the charger wire for the duration. In which case, it's probably best you get a wire and connect the laptop to the TV.

I use my phone mainly for Youtube, showbox and porn. HD porn on a 42 inch screen is Gods gift to me.

I use my laptop for sports streams.

Ok, thanks. Just had another mess about with localcast and my sony blu-ray player, and it seems to struggle playing videos from my phone, but works mostly, and doesnt play anything from showbox. So do you think this is a problem with my blu-ray rather than my phone or localcast?

bought this thing because i felt the overwhelming urge to buy something. Now everything i seem able to do is to stream youtube from my iphone or tabs from the chrome browser of my laptop.

if i have a stream running in chrome and change it to full screen, the scream does not show on the tv.

I would be very happy for some help. I seem to be to old for this thing.

Some things that I would like to do and seem possible:

stream streams from laptop in full screen mode to tv.
show pictures and videos from the iphone on the tv.

please help out!

Have you let the device install itself from your browser i.e followed the instructions in the box? Thats the first thing.

And yeah basically what it allows you to do is cast directly from your browser to the tv, it is streaming not mirroring, so you can't show our desktop by itself. Must be chrome or compatible app.

I bought a chrome cast a few months back I thought it was a bit shit but yesterday I installed Plex on my PC, tablet and phone.

I cannot recommend Plex highly enough, all the media content I have on my PC I can access anywhere in the house, stream films, TV shows, music and live TV to any chrome cast connected TV or device on the same wifi network.

Whoever mentioned Plex on here somewhere, thanks, can't remember who.

How does this device work? If I was playing a film on my mac using VLC, could I port it to the TV and keep on watching it?

Had it for years. Use it everyday! Incredible software. I originally got it so it organised my media but now having it on my phone, my tv, it's awesome. My decision to buy a samsung tv (over say panasonic) was due to it having a Plex app! Annoyed that you need Plex Plus for the XBox app. That would complete my media experience!

I got a Chromecast about a month ago, and along with Showbox and Allcast - it has bloody transformed my life! Everytime I'm out of the house, all I can think of is how I can't wait to be at home again, on the sofa.

Better purchase than Di Maria this was.

I am loving it, just need to sort out the sportsdevil plug in and then I don't need sky.

What's that?
It let's you watch streams of skysports, BT sport and so on.

Not sure if I can post the link but if you search for "sportsdevil for plex" in Google you will find it, 3rd down, its a reddit link.

I have installed it and found sky sports , BT sports, ESPN, being and many more but the menus are confusing and poorly laid out. Hopefully I will get used to it or find a better plug in.

Have you installed the unsupported app store, I can find much working in it.
