Where's the love for Ferris Bueller btw!
Somebody already mentioned it, so I left it out. Same with Bill & Ted.

My nephews love Ferris Bueller, they must have watched it about 10 times!

The Money Pit
Brewsters Millions
Groundhog Day
Enter The Dragon
They might be a bit young for groundhog day, when he kills himself etc. Brewsters millions is a classic. Used to love that movie

My little sister watched Silverado all day, litterally all day, when she was at that age...
Still not sure it's something i'd recommend to 5-7 year olds though :)

Not 80s or 90s, but loved Wizard of Oz and Darby O'Gill and the little people as a kid.

Also Return to Oz. Though, it might be slightly scary for children that young.

Police academy for light humour
Yeah, that bit where the hooker is sucking the blokes cock as he makes a speech is hilarious.

dreams can't be buy
I love 80s films, but I can't think which ones I should be recommending to 5 and 7 year olds...

Maybe something like The Great Outdoors.

you would make a five year old watch godfather?
Maybe a 10 year old kid.

I remember watching the Godfather as an adventure... 3 whole VHS for just 1 movie.

Going to the video store to pick up movies for the weekend was so much fun i remember.

The Alien movies and It had me traumatized for a while, but it definitely helped me to have an open and creative mind growing up.

The lion king, Bambi, The Bear and stuff like that are just downers... way too sad for a kid.

Would Beetlejuice be suitable for 5 and 7 year olds? Not seen it for ages, but don't seem to remember much that would scare...

They were fine with Gremlins and Gremlins 2...
Would probably give them nightmares i reckon.
