Over the last couple of years I have tried to watch some old classics that I always knew I should see but just never did. At times it is difficult to go back to movies from the 60’s and 70’s and so far it’s been a mixed bag.

But looking through movies I still really need to watch would be Citizen Kane and 12 Angry Men.

Apocalypse Now.

Had it on my list since I became a fan of cinema.

Not watched citizen Kane. It was on iPlayer but can't seem to bring myself to watch it.

Haven't seen some other but not sure if classic or just rated. So haven't seen Schindler's list for example. Again not because I haven't wanted to but just the topic makes it a movie I always think I'll watch on my own etc but then when alone don't.

All movies before the 1970s. I just can't.
This pretty much. I can admire the influence they had on the coming generations but can't be arsed with them and they're simply not very enjoyable.

Probably the exception for me being Kurosawa. But even then it was more admiration of his work more than saying I'm gonna watch this stuff another ten times.

Casablanca
Some Like It Hot
Sunset Blvd.
Lawrence Of Arabia
Seven Samurai
Rashomon
Patton
Apocalypse Now

... and most pre 1940 classics. I've probably seen less than 10 movies from the 20's and 30's.

There's also a good amount of movies that I (probably) saw in high school(or earlier) that I hardly remember any details from:

The Godfather
The Godfather 2
Taxi Driver
Blade Runner
Back To The Future
E.T

How do you know which ones are good if you haven't seen them?

I gave seen the bad ones.(1-3).
Fair enough, though even as someone who grew up loving Star Wars and doesn't mind the Prequels. I watched the originals a few years ago for the first time in over 10 years and I don't think they really hold up. Empire strikes back is great but the other two are ropey in parts.
