Watch that Optic v Faze series then? Unreal, can't take this anymore haha
Haha, just watched it. Karma's got ice in his veins, he's turned up at just the right moments!

Will you make the final? It seems like it's going to be really late

The last 30 seconds of that Hardpoint in Game 4 they just didn't miss a bullet. Insane really! Karma strikes me as the kind of guy that goes through life blissfully unaware of most social norms and does his thing and that allows him to clutch up in games like that. Not to say he doesn't feel nerves and pressure though.

If we beat Luminosity which is on very soon then I'll be staying up in case it's an Optic vs eUnited final. We have played them loads in scrims over the last few weeks and it's been epic every time so a LAN final I couldn't miss.

Another game 5?! How you dealing with this?

Karma and Crimsix at the end again clutched the feck out of it.

Used to watch a lot of league of legends, favourite moment has to be xpekes backdoor vs SK Gaming.

Used to play a lot of Hearthstone but feckyou Blizzard. Nerfing Grim patron warrior..
EVERYONE GET IN HERE! PILEON! I don't think I ever completed a turn with that deck without the rope going down.

I watched quite a bit of Kripp too, never got the hang of arena but he just made it look easy, amusingly I played him recently in Star wars force arena and beat him! Course the fecker wasn't streaming at the time.. -.-

The key to building a good collection is the arena. If you can average 5/6+ wins on a regular basis you'll build a collection in no time. You can always use a builder like arenavalue but my tips are keep your curve low, prioritise board clears and card draw and ignore synergy, it's too inconsistent.

I'm played for a year or so and got most good cards as a F2P player. The only exception is that I buy the adventures, I buy these with the thought process that the developers deserves something from me!
Yeah there is no chance of me getting anywhere near that. I'm lucky to make 2/3 wins really.

I actually can't handle any more! Envy ran through us last night and worried how that's going to go but we are warmed up and have huge momentum. Can't wait to watch that.

eU final...hope it's not written in the stars for them..

I am a fan of e-Sports in general. As far as their classification as a sport goes, I dont know. Í dont think you can compare them to regular sports (i.e. apply the same roles) as the context is entirely different.

It does get easier the more you play Arena. Most of it is just about having a strong start and having enough card draw so that you aren't topdecking at the end. If you average 3 wins then you get your gold back in the pack and the rewards. Makes itpre economical than just buying packs.

EUnited deservedly win the tournament! Good effort by optic and great losers bracket run to even make it to the final.

The play style in Arena is much different. I'm not a massive fan of it but it is a very popular game mode. Maybe check out Kripparian or Amaz streams as they're Arena specialists.

If you get good at it you will reap the rewards though as @ivaldo said.

The only thing I watch (and quite a lot at that) is Hearthstone, both tournaments and individual streamers (mostly Firebat and DisguisedToast).

I like it because you can constantly think along and see where your move would vary from the pros etc.

Yeah I've been trying to keep sort of up to date on it but there's just so much to see. Most memorable I saw so far was G2/Thijs steamrolling alliance (I think?) on murloc paladin 6-0.

It's a very interesting format though, especially being able to hear the in-team communications at times is really nice/insightful.

I have a serious addiction.

I played as a F2P player for a while but I've gotten into buying packs now. Waiting for the latest expansion. Should hit in April hopefully.

What classes do you play as? Please don't tell me you're a Pirate Shaman/Warrior.
Pff addiction. Hearthstone is like a kid having money to buy candy. Magic the Gathering is the crack of card games.

I'm not that into a game to follow eSports. CS 1.6 and GO are the closest thing that I've followed but I stopped playing that game over a year ago. Maybe Overwatch will get on my watch list but I'm not actively keeping up.

This scene (if you can call it one scene) is absolutely massive and I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on here.

I've been interested in that for a while but having one CCG on the go is enough.

That was some accomplishment in the current meta. I can remember which team it was that closed out their matches with a 3-0 Hunter win. It is encouraging that it is possible to break the meta albeit having to have the perfect draws.

I really like the Trinity format. Being able to listen to 3 pros discuss their moves really helps get a better understanding of how to play at the highest level.

I'm really looking forward to this patch in the next week or so. Small Time Buccaneer was incredibly broken and the changes to the ranked ladder should hopefully mean more deck diversity.

Got to Paris for 8pm and got to the venue for the last game of the day which was Optic Gaming vs Red Reverse (recently and previously named Orbit, an EU team)

We won 3-2 after going behind. The venue is nice with some big stages for League of Legends, Clash Royale and Just Dance as well as CoD. Main stage looks well equipped and can't wait for day 2.

Just wrapped the day up nicely with a couple of beers outside the venue with a few of the pros in attendance.

Apparently there aren't any warm up stations for the cod guys. Formal was bitching about it on Twitter

They nerf any interesting deck. It's what's really turned me away from HS recently. I played it since release but I don't like the direction they're heading. For some reason they have a massive hate for any deck that can OTK from hand or have any sort of interesting game plan. Patron Warrior, Handlock etc. Miracle is only viable at the moment because of the pirate package and even that is getting hit with nerfs again, they're taking conceal away from standard. Also Freeze mage is losing ice lance. They think that only decks that play a regular strategy on board are fun but they are totally wrong, if every deck is that way it gets boring and solved fast . Patron Warrior, Handlock, Miracle are the most fun decks the game ever had and they help to spice things up.

Maybe they will let these things live in Wild which is where I'll probably spend most of my time when I get round to coming back.

Never had a problem with any of their nerfs. They monitor how prominent decks are and those, as with the instance of pirate warrior, that are played far too regularly are then adjusted. Ladder play has become tedious playing aggro Shaman and pirate every time.

They also monitor interactiveness of decks, although I've played a bit of freeze myself in the past its a terrible deck to play against. There's zero battle for the board and it becomes a case of whether freeze gets the draw they are after. Where's the fun in that for the opposition?

Hopefully the small nerves to spirit claws and small time buccaneer will see a slight shift in focus.

Honestly, it sounds like you should try Magic The Gathering. It's a game that thrives on finding fun ways to build new decks that can mess with your opponent. Cards never get nerfed either.

Yeah I do play magic every now and again but not been too impressed with their digital offerings yet. They are working on a new one though so hopefully it's good.

I understand a lot of people don't like playing against freeze mage and I'm not too mad about it being nerfed but mainly because it is so self contained in the classic set and people have been playing it since release. However I think decks like that are great overall in a rotating format. I get the complaint about interactivity but that's more a fault of the game itself I think. For example hyper aggro decks are not exactly that interactive either. They just hope they draw their best face bashing cards and ignore everything you do.

The main things I would love for HS to introduce are :

1. some type of reactionary plays similar to instants from Magic or trap cards from yugioh.
2. An in client tournament mode that allows you to play bo3 or bo5 for example.
3. An improved limited format like sealed or cube draft. My favorite type of format in Magic but I can't stand Arena in HS.

It's a good game don't get me wrong. If you search up hearthstone on the forums you'll see I've been its biggest advocate here, but many long time players do share similar frustrations where at times it feels like Blizzard aren't fulfilling the games potential or are moving far too slowly.

I think the small nerf to small time buccaneer will seriously hinder aggro decks, all of a sudden arcane missiles, whirlwind, arcane explosion etc all clear the board entirely. The problem we have at the moment is a good draw from aggro and you can lose by turn 5.

I quite like arena, though I think that's more to do with being good at it than actually it being a good mode, easy win for gold! Really like the idea about a tournament mode, would be a great inclusion.

Just got home.

We (Optic Gaming) won the tournament. Got to speak to the main man Scump during a period of LAN failure at the shop outside of the venue. Told him they needed to 3-0 FaZe so I didn't miss my flight and that's exactly what happened! Win win all round!

Magic: Duels is decent.

It's not an eSport, but if you want a DCC right now, you can't beat Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist on PC. 6600~ cards, all unlocked through gameplay, full online multiplayer, etc. It's great.

I did a big story about the Danish eSport scene a year ago approximately with two journos. Incredible dedication required for this, just as any other sport.
But it surprised me that Danish high schools and colleges are increasingly offering eSport as a part of the education, similar to other elite sport enthusiasts.

Call of Duty World League at the Dallas Open this weekend. First round of pool matches were last night.

Optic Gaming turned up and Scump went huge versus Envy. More today and finals tomorrow, streaming on MLG and MLG's Twitch.
