Wouldn't turn him down, he's the closest link to a Pogba replacement that the press has mentioned in terms of his attributes. Fitness is a big concern surely, playing in a more physical and higher tempo league would surely undermine his condition.

Most people will prefer a DM but I think Ole is set on Bruno with a pivot of Pogba and Fred/Mctominay in midfield. So we're looking for back ups
I think being without Pogba most of the season has highlighted to Ole that Lingard and Pereira are not good enough for this club, and I think he wants them gone. I’m not sure the purpose of Mata tbh, and still confused why he was given a 3 year deal last year. If we get an additional cover that he seems to be after for the 8/10 role - not sure if Mata is anything more than a highly paid mascot to keep spirits up around the grounds.
I just wonder how Fred/Pogba will look against the big teams. Fred looks like he has a lot of energy but I'm not sure he can play a "disciplined" role in a way Thomas can.

Tolisso is a decent player and definitely good enough in a rotation role. The biggest issue with him are injuries and how much teams are willing to pay for essentially a backup.

It'll almost definitely be McTominay or Matic as the holding mid IMO. Sometimes Fred next to them, Pogba roaming and Bruno on the right probably as well (until we buy Sancho/whoever). Fred has been great but I don't see us starting him ahead of Mctominay or Matic to be the holder behind Pogba and Bruno. He plays a deeper passing role right now, but he's not the defensive presence. Pogba will essentially come in to the same role.

I agree that from a first XI perspective, a specialist DM is more important.

And I don’t think backups need to be cheap and average. We’ve seen this season with Pogba’s injury for example that backups play a lot of football. If they are not good enough to play for you, it is a problem. I’ve seen a lot of rubbish players defended over the years by simply saying ‘he’s a squad player’ - but by one way or another, the likes of O’Shea, Lingard and co seemed to end up in the lineup most weeks for us. Tolisso at the prices touted would be good business, as would VDB. If the players are happy to play the role, then great. Ultimately, I want cover that genuinely believe they can start on merit. Not realistic for all positions at top clubs, because sometimes a real world class player is ahead of you. But if you can have actual competition rather than cover that is condemned to averageness, you should do where possible.

Because we have such luck buying from Bayern. Who rarely sell unless the players legs have fallen off or they have a woeful attitude.

Should be a loan with an obligation to buy for a certain amount. Otherwise forget signing someones who has had a serious knee injury.

This summer is too key to get signings right. Midfield signings should be the calibre of Fabian Ruiz, Havertz or Saul.

Bayern have sold plenty players who didn't fit a system or didn't have a place at that time. Kroos and Mandzukic are some recent examples.

With Bruno and Pogba guaranteed starters and McTom and Fred improving so much, i think it's a good idea to look at cheaper squad options for depth. This guy also has something to prove imo so it might be worth a shot.

I think we might be able to sign him for around €20m.
Bad idea. Not yet fit after his latest injury which took him out for 71 days. A loan with option to buy may do. Buying outright is madness. It's also a bit risky bringing in mid- or late- career players who've never played PL football.

It is the season after his ACL - and I seldom saw that this went easy for a player especially when he does not get the match practise he needs to get. That makes it hard in an environment in which you have to deal with Kimmich, Thiago and Goretzka (+ Martinez and Cuisance) for two spots in midfield - three when Bayern does not have enough wingers as then Müller will shift his position. Right now with Goretzka having been excellent since the Corona break ended it even is difficult for Thiago to get match time.

I love him as a player as he is a very intelligent box-to-box player who is versatible enough to play every midfield position and has a very good passing for such a player + speed and heading quality. If he would be fully fit and integrated the prize for him would be much higher - because of the injuries and as Bayern with Goretzka has a similar player that plays a very good season there is a chance to get him pretty cheap. Not without risk - yes - but else he would not be available... (I was pretty sure that he beats Goretzka with ease for a starting position - but because of his ACL etc. that did not run as planned).

Just seeing this and don't want. Even as a squad player his recent injury record from 2018-now is worrying

He was pivotal in our entire house double winning season
He was decent for a couple of months. Then he went back to the treatment room and he blamed us for it

He was behind Fletcher in our midfield pecking order. We found a use for him thats all
Fletcher who was also phenomenal even by the best of defensive midfield standards in that period? Not really much of a point, when Hargreaves had 23 league apps (only 7 off the bench) it's quite clear he was important to the team regardless of where he was stationed. And it wasn't "for a couple months".

Anyway this is the Tolisso thread.

sounds like just what Ole wants for his hard working midfield

Strike another one up for "bayern have a player for sale and want to use United to get a good price"

It appears we were interested in the January transfer window but we haven't engaged with them since.

Injury-prone and not good enough for a PL Top4 club. Just think Bayern's trying to make space for better players by moving him and Martinez.

He definitely is good enough. It's just Bayern's playstyle and the fact that it's near impossible to start over Thiago and Kimmich. Even Goretzka is having trouble really breaking through despite the topnotch performances he's putting in.

Imo he could do great stuff at United.

You would think he's on the wrong side of 30 and on his way out of the game given the way he's written off for dead on here

He's still just 25...

Lots of good links surrounding United right now, this is the only one that concerns me, couldn't cut it in the Bundesliga, currently injured and isn't different enough to balance out our midfield.

Personally, I think its never a good a idea to look for cheap squad options.
You should always be looking at getting players better than what you already have, these players then become your squad players.

Bayern's squad will need massive investment next summer if they want to challenge for CL. Right now I'd put them in the group with Juve and Real but behind PSG and the Big 4.
