Let's say immediately after we won the Treble and translated into today's money

Stam: 50m
Beckham: 65m
Giggs : 50m
Sholes : 35-40m
Keane : 55m

Cole : 40m
Yorke : 50m
Are these valuations based on marketing potential?

Beckham great player though he was, was arguably the worst of the 4 players.

Aren't all players valuations based on ability, marketing and everything else?

And he certainly wasn't the worst of the 4 in the Treble season.

Well he certainly wasn't better than Giggs. Not by a long shot.

Rooney has more assists than De Bruyne this season. ...... it's a rubbish stat

I disagree. Beckham was better than Scholes and at least on the same level as Giggs. His crossing that season resulted in an absurd amount of assists. He also contributed with both goals and assists in vital games. His corners in the CL final and the goal against Spurs in the final league game as the two most obvious examples.

If you say so.

There's a reason Beckham was runner up for the ballon d'Or that year. 20 assists to Giggs' 7, 55 appearances to 41...

It absolutely amazes me when I see people try and downplay Beckham's contribution to 99 just because they don't like what he did with his career later.

Yes but footballing talent surely is the most important factor. Granted you make a good point it would be harsh to rate him 4th in the treble season. But overall the others were better players for me. Theres no shame in that considering how good the other three were and im a big fan of becks.

Imagine how much Ronaldo would go for today. With the benefit of hindsight, £80 million was a huge bargain for Madrid.
I still have no problem with the fee. He wanted to leave a year earlier and we probably would've got more for him if he was sold in 08, but Fergie convinced him to stay for one more year, and we won the league and got to the CL final. That wouldn't have happened without Ronnie that year and what timing as Liverpool almost won the bloody league that year, too!

How much would Everton make selling Wayne Rooney today? Not 31yr old Wayne but when United got him?

Those are ridiculously low figures. Giggs and Keane would have commanded fees three times that in today's money, for example. The Scholes figure is laughable.

But PP is also extremely marketable, while Scholes and Keane are not, to say the least. All of these things must factor into the equation, as they do in real life.
Almost no footballers were back then.

Bale isn't very marketable, especially compared to ronaldo yet he went for more than him.

So yeah, worth more than pogba.

All in Euros

96-02 Beckham - 200m
06-09 Ronaldo - 250m
94-02 Keane - 175m
03-06 Ruud - 100m

I wonder how much someone like Robson, consensus was that he was a top, top player but won relatively little (through no fault of his own), would be worth today.

Yeah but in 99 he still regularly rotated with Butt, he got better as he got older I wouldn't call 99 his peak.
People often forget this. As great as Scholes was (he is IMO the GOAT United player), his real peak came much later than the rest of the CO92. 99 Scholes was solid but not that special yet.

Well I was basing them on Mata being 40m and Bale/Pogba 90m and a World Record and fitting everyone in between those. 99 Scholes wasn't anywhere near his peak yet, to go for around the same as Mata seems reasonable to me. And Giggs would not have been sold for £150m, he still had injury problems at that point for one. The question was how much would they go for in 99, not at their various peaks.

Scholes and Keane around £100-125m
Solskjær, Yorke and Cole around £50-60m
Giggs around 80-100m
Rio and Vidic around 60-80m
Very hard to judge, and wont even try to evaluate Beckham.

The first I was thinking is that Ronaldo if he was 24 again, he would have been way past 100 mill. A place between 150 and 200 I think

Wonder what Rooney would go for:p At least double the price.

What would Veron cost? 80-100 mill?

How much do you think we'd have to pay to prise Bale away right now? A similar age and ability to Giggs in 99

Ole wouldn't go for £50m if Hernandez only went for like £10m. Ole would command £20-30m tops.
In my world, it's "United doesn't want to sell" case. Not the real world where we give players away for peanuts when we no longer want them.

Becks worth more than Keano? Do you mind me asking why you think this?

If United instead were buying these players then.... probably
