Refused to be subbed on in the dying minutes of Croatia's match.
What a bellend, throwing away an opportunity to play/score in a WC.
An austrian commentator said Kalinic did the same thing quite recently, can someone confirm? If so, it's idiotic to pick the guy for a WC in the first place.
Croatia is now down to a 22-man-quad.

Edit: Kalinic also refused to play the last minutes against Brazil in June (!), top shelf team player.

Some players just dream of featuring in World Cup and this idiot do this. What a disgrace of a player.

Has he done this only for the national team ? Guess he doesn't probably get along with the coach. Still a stupid thing to do. Who would turn down a chance to feature in a world cup match even if you don't get to kick the ball. Very unprofessional.

I was at bar, drinking, so I might have heard it wrong, but even our manager confirmed on TV that Kalinic used the same excuse three times; vs Brazil, vs Nigeria and in training. so yeah, the idiot should feck off and never be called again.

He's a disgrace to the national team if true. Doesn't deserve to represent Croatia again.

This behaviour is completely unacceptable anywhere, unless your name is Carlos Tevez and the team you play for is Man City.

Must be fuming being called up for WC. He is well into retirement. Croatia coahc to be blamed

age joke

Surely would have said before being put on the bench?
And unless the injury is so serious, you're still on the stand by hoping for a quick recovery. Sories about players took injection, delayed surgeries so they could play in big tournament is not rare. Here, we're talking about 30 years old player and the WC (4 years apart) refused to get subbed on

our manager actually confirmed that he didn't even want to train.

Dickhead. You have a chance to play at the WC and you throw it away cause you think you're all that. Not to mention he had a horrible season at Milan. He had previous incidents like that, while at Hajduk he once threw captain's armband when he got subbed and Gattuso had problems with him at Milan.
Obviously he think too high of himself and that he should always be in the team.

His NT career is over and rightly so.
To say he's an idiot is to say it mildly.

Higuain and Dybala are sitting on Argentina bench waiting for their chance and Nikola fekin Kalinić doesn't want to.
Ćiro Blažević has put Prosinečki, Robert friggin Prosinečki on the bench in 1998 and Robi didn't say a word.

Kudos to Croatia for laying down the law, and it was the only decision they could have done, as not to undermine the manager. Why he'd want to jeopardize his chances of playing in the World Cup, I don't know. Must be a sad, lonely plane ride home.

If he is injured why didn't he say so and drop out of the squad, might have been enough time to call in a replacement if he had just been honest about this a bit earlier, if the injury is genuine. Maybe more to this story than we are being told though.
If he is playing stupid games, he deserves to be sent home though, he has let himself and Croatia down in the end.

Why not just refuse the call up? Denied someone else the chance.

Exactly. Problem is he refused to play vs Brasil while there was a chance to call a replacement. Maybe Dalić thought it was one off, then he did it on Saturday again.

Should've probably retired from international football and let someone else go to Russia, but if he exacerbates an injury while on international duty he risks ending up without a contract based on his contract status. Croatia doesn't pay his wages, after all.

All the other 12 players are on the bench. You don't have to pick a 7-man bench.
Same though. If you are injured before the game, you'd say rather than putting you in a position to say I can't come on.

All good but if he had a problem he should have said so. NT doctor wasn't aware of any injury whatsoever.

If he was injured why was he picked in the first place.

After the absolutely dreadful season he's had with Milan, this just caps it. Absolute bellend. Waste of space...

Can't Croatia call someone up to replace him? Such a weird thing to do. If you have no intention of even playing for your country, why even accept the call up. Plonker.
