Easily down to the manager. A great manager has a tactical approach, an amateur tells the players to play their game and have fun. That works many times, but over a season you struggle to finish 4th even though we have single players worth more than than most oppositional teams combined.
Well he adjusted it perfectly. Just like a good manager would

Pretty well what I was expecting at this stage - the lockdown and the match congestion after the restart catching up with us now, as it is with almost all the teams in the EPL. Several players look knackered and others are rusty.

McTominay struggled, although that doesn't mean he's become a bad player, just needs a run of games, which he's not going to get at the moment. He may get more game time in the EL matches. Let's remember how good he was for us before Pogba's return (and he was sloppy and tired tonight).

Fosu-Mensah was OK - looked very much as he did in the reserve matches I saw him play, and wasn't that surprised Ole played him rather than Dalot, who is weaker defensively.

Lingard was OK, didn't do anything of note but nothing that anyone can berate him for (although he'll doubtless get stick for just being there).

Greenwood clearly struggling from his knock against Southampton - maybe would have been a match for James.

Big credit to Fernandes for still doing what he does despite clearly being tired and to Martial and Dr. Rashford for producing those moments of quality despite the wear and tear - Martial actually still looks pretty fresh, which maybe is to do with the way he works in bursts. Credit as well to DDG, he's had a lot of stick but looked solid today.

A shame it didn't work out here for Zaha - he could have had a decent career at Utd.

We'll need to summon more energy from somewhere for the Chelsea game.

Fosu-Mensah hasn't played a single competitive game for United this season and you think this, a game we absolutely must win, is the ideal opportunity to throw him in the starting XI? That's, um, an interesting take.
Anyway Ive wasted enough time talking about Timbo, for good or for worse I dont think he'll play anymatch for us ever again. His contracts expires next summer and my bet is he will be let go for free.
    You were saying guys?

100mins in he chases a pass back from a Palace defender to the goalkeeper but ok he’s knackered ......
His stamina seems nuts. He was kinda drained which affected his finesse and moments on the ball mostly, but his will to win pushed him through. Instead of hiding or dropping his head when feeling tired he kept running to help out the team still, which is a great trait and the sign of a leader within this team.

Let's be honest we rode our luck with no penalty to Palace and the dodgy offside decision. I'm not complaining I'm just glad its over.

It just seemed very close and I don't think the ref would be wrong if he allowed the goal to stand. Don't get me wrong f... Palace
yeah it was close but offside, so can't really be described as a dodgy decision

Possibly, it allowed Pogba to get on with his day job, to control the midfield.
Pogba was poor tonight, alongside McTom and Matic. He certainly didnt control the midfield, Fernandes was also way off his usual standard. Matic was atrocious for his first 5-10 mins, misplaced nearly every pass but got better. The 2nd goal was vital for us - killed the game off for them.

The team overall all had good spells and sloppy spells.

For me, Pogba was too deep and casual in possession, but thats not a direct dig at Pogba as such, they all were. Mctom was poor as well

It's clearly just fatigue. Too many games, causing casual play.

De gea - did his job
tofu - good job, not his natural position
    mcguire - good job
Lindelof - ok. Could have caused a pen.
wan bissaka - Works hard. Good tackles. bad technique.
Pogba - Sloppy. Out of form.
McT - Good as usual. Does his job and little bit more than that sometimes.
Fernandes - Looked tired but still does important thing in final third. Good.
Martial - Very good. In form. Dangerous almost everytime he challenges.
Rashford - Good but can And should do much better.
Greenwood - not his best game
    I'll amend this for you:
    DDG - Immense. Vital saves
TFM - Not played in a long time, not his position. Was solid. A good performance considering.
Maguire - Done ok at the back, Ayew gave him a good challenge. Should have scored 3 goals from corners
Lindelof - Done the basics ok. Poor distribution. Should have been a pen. Zaha was always going to beat him
AWB - Looked sloppy. Zaha had him beat all game.
Pogba - Some good moments, some very casual. Fatigued
McTom - Very poor. Can tell he's rusty. Positional play was his biggest issue, wasn't involved enough in breaking up play or with the ball. A bad night for him
Fernandes - Rarely involved. Grew into the game. Unlucky not to score. Works his arse off even when its not quite going for him.
Martial - A good performance. Works hard, looking to make things happen. Always a threat
Rashford - Awesome. Good on the ball, linking well with Martial. Superb finish. Won us the game
Greenwood - Could have forgotten he was playing in the first half. Just not involved in the game at all. He'll have better nights for sure

    There's only one United!
Those two lost points against Southampton may come and haunt us in future.

Congrats to @Class of 63 when you wrote Timbo in your formation I had no idea who you were even talking about, but I think you were the only person to predict TFM getting a game ..... Is that you Ole? :D

Very good, now read my post again. I said that when Matic came on, it allowed Pogba to play his game. He was playing too deep before then, perhaps he was having to cover too much for McT and he isn't so good at defensive duties.

I'm starting to wonder that myself, Tuanzebe to Captain United verses Rochdale, and now Timbo ....

Nah, Timbo was one of the substitutes a few games back so he was always likely to get a chance sooner or later but I thought the FA Cup Semi more likely.

Don't know why, there's a clamer for a specialist in every position these days, but a utility man who can cover 3/4 positions is priceless.
For that we need to look at him at CDM and at CB positions for the first team. Then it will be clear

It doesnt help much if he's not good enough on any, nothing against Timbo but I think we have other youngsters with more potential than him in any position he can play.

Rb of Lb we got Laird, for Cb Tuanzabe or Mengi, for CDM Garner.

    What you've seen you mean.

Considering Managerial changes and injuries in two struggling sides he did okay on loan. It would be unrealistic to expect him to pull up trees.
You may debate that his spell in Crystal Palace was somewhat ok, I dont agree but I can understand some will say AWB took over and it was hard for Timbo to get past him.But there's no way anyone can argue his spell at Fulham was ok, it was a total failure. He could even start in a team that had freaking Cyrus Chrisie and Joe Bryan starting over him.

Seriously? There was a change of Management at Fulham not long after he arrived, and some Mangers prefer to use players owned by the club, and not to develop players for other clubs benefit, it happens!

Do you seriously believe if Timbo offered a better chance to stay in the premier league the manager wouldnt have used him because he preffer to use players owned by the club?

Fulham would have used any player, owned by no matter who, if they were better than the ones they got, their goal was to avoid relegation.

You'd be surprised how often it happens, so YES
