In the OP (i know it was years ago) I can't believe the journalist tried using Shearer as a contrast to Gerrard. Shearer was a target man striker who played with his back to goal a lot compared to Gerrard whose an all action midfielder. They could have at least compared him to someone like Keane or Vieira
