The interesting part of the story isn't that Woody had a Hollywood style...whatever planned. As others have said, that's to be expected and a nothing story. No - what's interesting is that he let it get to a point where Zlatan could feck up the thing by posting something on social media: poor communication (or total lack of it) seems to be one of Ed's specialties.
Come on... dont tell me zlatan has no knowledge of what's going on. He accepted the deals. He knew he's coming. He could have asked his agent and they'd let him know.

And he could have easilly played along with official date of announcement. Going ahead of schedule could really fecked up alot of things marketing wise. The planned official statement, sponsor websites, even MUFC store needs time to update their players number and name requests etc. Might seems trivial to us but to those in said department it's huge

This may come as a surprise to you but all clubs do this with big transfers. Those of you bitching about it, will be the exact same ones demanding why the club isn't spending on the next flavour of the month. Where do you think that money comes from? We don't have a state backing us or owners that have more money than sense, yet we've spent as much as any other club over the past 10 years.

Woodward has failed at many things, you have many sticks to beat him with but to be outraged that he may just try to monetise a big name signing is fecking brain dead levels of stupid.
Bang on.

Yes, selling Manchester United is hard work...Seriously, grab a bunch of plain t shirts. Slap a United logo on them and watch them sell out in no time. I have never understood this nonsense that hes good at selling United. Some person said it once, and now its just the go to thing to say because you want to look reasonable. This man has wasted millions in transfers, wages and pr bullshit. Hes shit at his job if his job is not to waste money. If selling united to investors, sponsors and the media is the goal, the outbreak monkey could do that.
Er no... he's doing his job. Actually it's the so called football man that wasted shitloads of money. LvG, saf who appointed moyes and helped recommended ole, jose. All those are supposedly football man.

Ed's biggest mistake is listening to supposedly football god SAF. If only he trusted his moneyball wallstreet style stats and logical thinking we'd be a much better team hiring proper person with a fit and proper test.

this shows a real lack of understanding of how a corporate machine works and a nativity in any sort of commercial deal with another large corporate.

Ok, he does not need to know about that PR campaign while negotiations are ongoing, but that Zlatan made that post to force the negotiations to finish because he was losing patience with the slow/non-existent progress shows that Woodward was more focused on that PR stuff than on actually getting the negotiations through. Getting the paperwork with Zlatan done and tell him "we'll tell the world about in in two weeks, we want to prepare something special" would have been the right order. Otherwise you risk that the transfer fails and your beautiful PR campaign will never be used.
Even his own agent was angry that Zlatan did that. There is absolutely no blame whatsoever that can be attributed to Ed here. I know he is a easy target but these commercial deals enable us to buy shiny new players even during pandemic.

Yes, its so hard to sell something popular. Its not like theres a million hangers on and clambering to stay relevant by hitching their wagons to whatever has the most mass appeal.

Hes doing his job by under cutting his managers? Hes doing his job by paying more than is required? Hes doing his job by giving bumper contracts to people still in the middle of a contract even thought theres no demand for them? And then sacking them with in a few months so they get a huge pay day...Oh yeah, hes doing his job alright...badly. Ed doesnt listen to anyone, thats his problem. He goes from one plaster to another, throwing shit at the wall hoping something sticks. He buys players based on marketability instead of where the fit in the squad. This is why we have seen more than just Ole struggle to field players that they were supposedly after. They dont know how to use them as they never wanted them.

sure, blame it on Woodward. If he's penny pinching he's a glazer leech, if he's paying top dollars for the manager's target he's wasting money.

He just can't win. When it's dross it's Ed. 2 years ago we're singing how wonderful Ole at the wheel with this "Astute signing"

Keep moving them goalpost. He must have secretly mind controlling ole to give Mata a new contract.

Woodward wasn't the mastermind behind commercial deals...that was Richard Arnold. By most accounts, Richard is allowing John Murtough and Fletch to run the football side of things, while he (Arnold) oversees the club and the operations of it all.
I applaud him for that if true. At least he is honest he hasn't the know how and we might work better as a club in the future, compared with Woodward who thought he was Fergie when he was really phony

So at least Marc Overmars isn't going anywhere any time soon...

Anyone miss the leaks saying how we're looking at a DoF and after X Y and Z player after a shit performance rather than all these players leaking they want to leave?

Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you got til it's gone.

Hope this banker is not plotting another takeover with some consortium or individual out there to buy Man Utd and make himself CEO again.

I doubt he wants the job. Alot of public criticism and presumably not much more money than he got already.

A position far, far away from football. The best place for him because he was pretty awful at it.

Great news if you work there though going forward. You can underperform or do the bare minimum and still be rewarded with a pay rise!

I heard they were going to do a formal TV interview from Australia but he had to leave to conduct urgent charitable business.
