That was already happening for years and years. Loads of screenshots of racists laughing at people posting failed reports on them where overt racist language didn't get them kicked off
Initially it was like that then after the blowback moderation was tightened, and now it is going again in the other direction. And you didn't say anything about the account reinstatements.

I don't think moderation should ever have been tightened as it was (shadowbanning of popular accounts for political reasons) so I don't really care that they've now gone the other route of being far too lax. Most of the N word spamming was a reaction to a perception that they couldn't be banned for it anymore and became a meme on its own

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
Oh right of course, but please explain the contradiction
The contradiction is that you first claim that only liberals and corporations care about this, and that it has everything to do with American politics, and then you mock someone who isn't American, claiming their opinion doesn't matter. Which is it? Either only liberals and corporations care about it because of the American politics, or non-Americans with opinions about it unrelated to American elections are irrelevant.

So antisemitism is fair game then?

Only liberals and corporations care about it because of the midterms (corporations are not so much politically motivated but they know liberal consumers will be more motivated for boycotts etc if they don't make an early move). And yes non-American opinions are the absolute last anyone with a big say in this will consider. Its not a contradiction.

I do feel I'll end up taking over the thread so perhaps I will leave it at that lads

I don't agree. Twitter moved from being politically neutral and moderating actual bad behavior on its platform. To increasingly playing clear favorites about who to punish and who's views to quash or promote as truth.

In a way, I'm glad this is happening. People love free speech as an abstract value. Many (me included) would dislike spending lots of time in a site with actual free speech.

...

Fair play, you might be correct!

So those non-Americans with opinions don't care about it? Because if your premise is that their opinions don't matter, you've already conceded that non-Americans have opinions about it. Which they obviously do, since this thread is filled with international supporters of an English football club, on an Irish-ran website.

I might be nitpicking, but nits are there to be picked. Or something.

According to @Eboue I am socdem scum, but I like to think I'm a socialist. As I'm neither an American nor a liberal, I don't particularly care for the Democrats either. But I'm not blind to the fact that right-wing internet radicalization is a real thing, and that this isn't going to help.

And what's worse, American trends directly influence Norwegian politics, albeit to a lesser (and more sane) degree. And it's not like Norwegians don't use Twitter either.

I am surprised Eboue would describe you as such and then call you scum, considering he seems to only espouse socdem talking points and anti centrist liberal talking points.

I think you're conflating terms if you think Eboue uses liberal talking points. But we're definitely taking over the thread now, and I'm off to bed!

Also I think he's mostly joking about the scum thing. Maybe.

Advertiser: Elon, the reason we are pulling money is that you gutted your moderation team and we don't want people to screengrab our ads which are under a post that says "All Jews should be killed"

Elon: I'M GOING TO GO THERMONUCLEAR ON THE ADVERTISERS!!!

He's taking trolling to a whole new level.

The simple solution for anyone who doesn't like what he's doing with Twitter is to just leave it and don't ever go back. It really isn't that vital in your life.

In fact I'd encourage anyone and everyone to leave off all social media altogether, I've even left off using LinkedIn because of all the cnuts posting pictures and stories about stuff that just isn't relevant there. It's all such utter crap and nonsense that you can really live without very easily. I see people just mindlessly scrolling through that shite every chance they get. It really is a sad addiction, anyway rant over, I think I'll go for a smoke now to calm down.

The algorithmic amplification is bias for reality and actual viewer interest. Same with youtube. There is no conspiracy in these orgs to push right wing agenda. More viewers are drawn to these topics in terms of engagement metrics such as views, comments, likes etc. and that further adds as incentive for algorithm to push it further in people's feeds. If anything these companies have now altered these algorithms to be biased against videos with certain keywords or tags.

Sounds likely. Rage and hate do seem like the most powerful political motivators. Also seems like they've got extremely shite algorithms though. I do not watch any alt-right youtubes (or any political youtube at all really). Every time one pops up I nuke it with a not interested. Nevertheless, after several years of doing this I am still offered Ben fecking Shapiro or some other Yank desperate to introduce me to the culture war. Left leaning equivalents never seem to rock up. You'd think even a basic algorithm would get the message at some stage after being consistently told "Yo, don't send me this crap I don't want it".

Presumably me being motivated to continuously click the "not interested" button counts as engagement beyond simply ignoring its presence and as you say "further adds incentive for the algorithm to push it in [my] feeds."

I have no idea either, yet.
He seems a dipshit but most of the blowback on this is the democrats fear it will negatively impact them for midterms
That's an immediate material effect, and is a subject in the news anyway, but there are less reactionary agencies that have been concerned with media control pretty much forever.

And that fact he announced it on Saturday Night Live is also no shock.
I believe him though. It was mainly a glib comment about him being such an annoying tit I can understand why other kids wanted to beat him up. But on a more serious note it stands to reason that a poster boy of the alt right is a product of that sort of childhood. They always come across as damaged individuals.

Oh I absolutely believe him. That tech generation are very interesting. They are an older capitalist / american myth incarnate. They are the only large wave of self made millionaires and it's has exploded their egos. That sort of money in that vast swathe traditionally was based on inheritance. Power of the individual proved, bootstrap capitalism at work. The fact that they are so numerous and and are concentrated at the interface of so much of our information is basically a perfect storm.

he has aspergers and was very socially awkward as a kid getting beat up all the time.
That was Bill Gates. So, no, Musk does not have it unless it's acknowledged and signed by a mental health specialist.

I wonder how long until an adaptation of the anti-Glazer song resonates on Twitter just to piss him off further.

And yet still, there was Twitter to run: systems to maintain, code to write, projects to sync up on. And so workers began to create Google Docs listing who they could confirm was still employed at the company. They messaged colleagues on Slack to see who would message back. If the person responded, they got added to the doc.

“We’re basically messaging all our coworkers trying to figure out who’s left, like after a disaster,” one employee told us.

The confusion has made the company vulnerable should systems begin to break down or suffer an attack, employees said.

“It’s extremely unclear who still works here,” another worker told us. “Lots of ‘everybody left raise their hands’ in project channels.”
