I think it has something to do with the fact that, bar a couple of players, no one can actually play against decent spin.
Enlish players' deficiency against spin is well-known, but there are some of the best spin players out there on both sides today and they've offered nothing against this. And the bowling hasn't even been that great, certainly from England's perspective.
