Great interview. His English isnt perfect but it's fine, can't believe posters were arguing against his arrival because of it a few months ago.
Don't start. We need a process and some organisation. He mentioned The process. That cant be good.
But do we need to trust the process...?Don't start. We need a process and some organisation.
Ya he got set straight by the board...No big rebuild.

He has a monumental task on his hands, he needs to get something out of the squad so unfortunately he'll need to big up previous achievements even though they weren't up to the standard of the club.Interesting that he mentioned a few times us finishing 2nd last season. Not sure what to take from that.
I think he doesn't want to rip into the players too much considering not everyone is leaving the club.Interesting that he mentioned a few times us finishing 2nd last season. Not sure what to take from that.

His reporting career has literally been waiting outside gates for big news and being disappointed with nothing but seeing a car drive away!Cotterill's existence is so weird. Paid to be a botherer. Seems to rarely get any worthwhile soundbytes either.
Honestly if any of our fans get on his back next season, I think I am done with fan forums/YouTube etc. the guy has a monumental job, one where let’s face it there’s more probability of failure than success. These players have downed tools for three managers and if they do it again, we cannot act like the managers are the issue.
The lazy players with the help of some journos will make the manager look like a clown and some of the fans will buy it and want the manager sacked. The players who are lazy will be out on their arse by the way he's talking. 'good' is not enough for him. Love it!
I can guarantee that there are fans who will start bashing Ten Hag within 6 months because United still wouldn't have started playing like Man City or Liverpool or some other top football team. Just hope this time the board gives time to the manager and doesn't get pressured by some of our naive fans who want instant glory and instant results.
You don’t need to post some variation of this every 5 minutes. The lazy players with the help of some journos will make the manager look like a clown and some of the fans will buy it and want the manager sacked.

That the squad underperformed and underachieved this season?
you think he was going to sell and buy 22 new players this season?
Other squads underperformed and had critical injuries last season to allow us to get 2nd.
I just hope the board hasn't hoodwinked him into thinking these players are good enough for 2nd. Pep, Klopp, Tuchel and Conte now say ... no.

Basically he wants them to know they are not horrible championship level players in his first interview.
That's just my take though.

Totally this, if he can raise our general play up a few notches and we end the season out of CL places but playing cohesive football we will be in a better place than a hard fought 2nd place won on the back of weakened rivals and Bruno + Rashford having stellar seasons. This is the baseline he has to achieve becausr by then you will know that the addition of one or two players will take you up a level and it will be sustainable because you'd have the tactical base covered. The problem is you're defining failure through results. It would be like Liverpool not persisting with Klopp after his first 7 months in charge. What matters more so than results is whether or not our play has improved to a point where we feel transfers can change results. It's not a coincidence that Klopp after 2017/18 had Liverpool in a better position than Mourinho did United despite United finishing above Liverpool. We were relying on individual talent as our general play was awful.
One of the reasons why many of us are hopeful of Ten Hag is because he is supposed to change our play for the better. It's not solely about results. Like I stated earlier, I would be more worried about United if ETH got us 4th, but had us playing tumescent football that resembles our past managers compared to if he had gotten us 6th, but improving our general play. Because I know which team would be easier to fix its problems.
I feel like there is a fundamental divide in how failure was defined and therefore how it occurred in the past. Some did not want our managers sacked because they felt the league position meant our foundation was almost there. Others did want our managers sacked sooner because they felt the league position was fool's gold and that the play was the foundation for future success. I belong to the latter group meaning that I had less patience for previous managers. But it was never due to league position, it was due to how United were playing.
We'll start playing like City/Liverpool from the first game of pre-season, it might not yield results instantly but the progress in the way we play will be clear.

Results will take time, but playing with an identity and the way Ten Hag wants us to play should not take long. If the signs are not there in the first game next season i would be worried.Obviously, the aim will be to play good football like those 2 teams but it will take time to yield the expected results, that's what I feel because I have lost hope in this group of players who will throw the manager under the bus at every given opportunity.
I get all that, but he should judge the players on what he see's with his own eyes, not some fluke finish last season.
The board would have said to him - these players finished 2nd last season, as some kind of sales pitch.
Ten Hag out!
How can he possibly say there's potential in the squad when so many on the Caf have told us the players are all terrible?
Clearly the guy is clueless.
On paper if he can get all of these players back to top form and firing as a team 2nd place is not a pipe dream, it's attainable. But the goal is not 2nd, it's 1st and these players have proven over time to be snakes, it's time for a lot of them to go. I wish it could be done in one window but that's unrealistic. ETH is going to need to reluctantly keep some of them on side until they can be fecked off.Other squads underperformed and had critical injuries last season to allow us to get 2nd.

I don't have an issue with him throwing some of the players a lifeline. I just hope that the moment any of them deviate from the plan at this point going forward, no more strikes and out.Interesting that he mentioned a few times us finishing 2nd last season. Not sure what to take from that.
We had 2 weeks less pre-season than everyone last year meaning an astoundingly short break and we had 5 games in 8 days after the protests. Amazingly we started and ended the season very poorly. It’s odd how that context is totally ignored when the “74” points line is trotted out yet the same people are so understanding of the context around everyone else. Almost like they have an agenda. So basically, we had no choice but to be the second best team last season? Other teams always play well, not so well, get injuries - as do we, and we did last season too. We were simply the second best team last season.
We can also say that we ‘underperformed and had injuries/absences this season’ to allow others to finish above us. Over the course of a season, you get what you deserve I think.
