Clubs that traditionally would compete with England lower on that list. I think England will get it.

Us being in the conference league helps massively with this?

It wouldn’t if Villa had blow the UCL but they’re currently top of the table even, so hard not to see them progress at this point, especially as the other games seem manageable.

We need to push for fifth place. It's definitely manageable if we either sort our shit out or find someone that can.

The only good thing for Germany is that Spain and Italy have been equally terrible so we might get that second spot again this year.

Problem is no German club has looked impressive in the Europe yet.

England and Spain to get the two european spots imho.

- Portugal and Czechia are there mainly because they played a lot of qualifying matches but sooner or later will drop their position in favor to the top5 leagues

- France is doing very well in the UCL but they don't have any team in the Conference League.. I can't see Brest, Lille, AS Monaco, PSG performing so MUCH better than Spanish, italians and germans to cover the ZERO guaranteed points from 3rd tier competition.

- We Italy barely have one team good enough to go far in the UCL and the new format (that assign many more points to UCL results than UEL/UECL ones) will penalise us a lot compared to the past seasons.

- So it's about Spain v Germany but Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund 5-2, Barcelona v Bayern 4-1, Atletico v Leipzig 2-1 matches showed me that this season top spanish clubs seem stronger than germans.
In the other competitions I also think that Betis + Ahtletic + Sociedad combined will get more points than Heidenheim + Hoffenheim + Frankfurt.

England shouldn't have much problems, they have amazing teams in any competitions.
England and Spain to finish top2

Apart from us.

Portugal have a chance as there points are split between 5 teams rather than 7. Sporting and Benfica are doing well so far in the CL. Victoria should go deep in the Conference. Porto will likely get to about the Quarter Finals at least in the EL. Barga are the only ones that need to pull their finger out a bit.

We are doing our best to drag that rating down. Its like we are the weakest player in the singles at the Ryder Cup

One English team after another getting defeated. Seems like we'll have to keep doing the heavy duty lifting by remaining unbeaten.

And us, which seems fair enough since it’s us two and Spurs who are trying to sneak into the CL via 5th place ;)

Ranking after yesterday's matches:

1 England – 11.303 points
2 Portugal – 10.475
3 Italy – 10.125
4 Germany – 9.375
5 Spain – 9.000
6 France – 8.642

Poland should be doing okay with their two teams in the top 3 in European conference

Poland has 7.500 points. They are n.9 in the annual ranking: very good but the problem for Poland is that they have already lost 2 teams. In the last 5 years ranking, that determines the number of teams in Europe, Poland is n. 18 with 30.750 points. In these positions the nations are all very close: Austria is n. 11 and has 33.675 points. So this year you can win or lose many positions.

Premier League have a strong possibility to qualify 5 teams for the CL 2025/2026.

Shame we’re so shite at the moment. 5th will get CL

I see City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea qualified.
Then the race is very open. For me you (Man Utd) are the best placed. Your players are stronger than Aston Villa and Newcastle players (your main rivals) and now you have a top manager.

Portugal having only 5 teams (the coefficient being an average of results) can create a surprise and take the second place. England should secure the first spot.

Serie A have been very consistent the last few years

According to Opta's predictions England is almost certain to take first position. Second is now a three horse race with Italy favorite, challenged by Spain and Portugal.

This is how their model made it look about a year ago. (Ended up with Italy top and Germany second)

The competition for the second spot will be very fascinating in this season. I think overall Italy will earn it(just my personal opinion).

Does the points system take into account everyone who finishes top Eight has Two less games? It would put England at a huge disadvantage if doesn't.

Ranking after first phase:

1) England 20.892 (7/7)
2) Italy 17.312 (7/8)
3) Spain 17.178 (6/7)
4) Portugal 14.750 (4/5)
5) Germany 14.671 (5/8)
6) France 13.928 (5/7)
7) Belgium 13.150 (5/5)
8) Netherlands 11.916 (5/6)

Spain will probably pip Italy in the end.

I'm not sure whether to be happy England's getting the 5th spot or unhappy that it could go to Chelsea? It'll also be interesting if Chelsea finish 5th but we somehow end up winning the EL as well, only for Chelsea to be relegated to a EL slot for next year. A repeat of last year at a funnier level.

Please let this happen, I just wanna see it happen.

If Man Utd or Tottenham win EL but are outside first 4 places in PL, England will have 6 CL teams.

always knew they’d come begging to us after brexit.

I think this has changed. Winning Europa league will not affect 5th place.

Yes there's no limit now.

Theoretically England could have 7 teams in the Champions League next season if England get one of the two extra spots and us or Spurs win the Europa and City or Villa win the Champions League and fail to qualify by Premier League position.

Unlikely, but not impossible!

England basically safe after this week’s results…

Italy having their results divided by 8 make it harder but it is still wide open between them and Spain. With Italy slightly favourites.

Real drawing City this early isn’t very good for Spain. Real usually guarantees many points for Spain…

Atalanta got Brugge, normally better for them than Sporting. Juve & Milan avoiding each other could be both good or bad news for Italy depending on how they perform…

Edit: EL’s draw went better for Spain with Roma drawing Porto and Sociedad getting an easier draw…

5th is pretty much sowed up for England - barring a catastrophic round of 16. Between Italy and Spain for the other place. Portugal and Germany too far behind to catch 2nd and 3rd.

I think one knock on implication of the changes to the CL format is that England will be a safer bet to get that 5th spot every year. It’s really hard not to qualify for the CL knockouts with 24 advancing and English sides in the other competitions are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of talent with no clubs dropping down.
