Florian Wirtz | Leverkusen player

Feck. You think more a sprained/rolled ankle situation with torn or stretched ligaments or are we talking broken ankle?

He walked off the pitch so I'm slightly optimistic but it didn't look good. Let's put it like that, I'd be more surprised if no ligament was damaged than I'd be if something was broken :/

Players like him just dont get protection from the refs in German football and this is the result, congratulations. The 4th or 5th foul I can remember this season where he gets tackled like this and zero red cards, infuriating stuff.

We should have signed this guy when Ralf recommended him to us 3 years back.

Him and Alvarez with Enzo Fernandez could have been game changers for us

I think it’s highly unlikely he would have come even if you tried. He and his family seem to have a pretty clear idea how his career should go and they all wanted for him to stay at Leverkusen, so he’s still close to home while starting his career.

They're most likely basing it off of this:

I've yet to see any original Spanish reporting on this.

It fits in quite well with recent reports from Sport Bild and Kicker that the player prefers Real Madrid over City over Bayern but his father who is also his agent prefers Bayern and has talked with them the most.

Come on Flo, you're 22, time to emancipate yourself from your parents and make your own decisions

We reanimated the Bundesliga last season, isn't it understandable we don't want to accept it is about to die again now? ;)
Tell that to Papa Wirtz! (Btw, I still don’t see him going to Bayern but don’t want him at fecking City.)

Yeah, I'd wish there would be to other options, Barca e. g. Though the idea to see him trained by Guardiola is an intriguing thought. Could turn him into an absolute monster of a player.

Pep isn't precisly a coach that actually encourages and gives sometimes the necessary freedom players with the style of Wirtz unless you are some freak like Messi.

Exactly, look at the development of Foden, Grealish etc.. players like Palmer left becuase Pep is not a real fan of players who enjoy freedom.

I simply despise City. I don't want them to have anything nice.

Yeah he'd be like their new KdB instantly.

Let's see, Alonso is going to Madrid by all accounts, so maybe he'll take Wirtz with him. Otherwise I hope Bayern get him.

I'm really torn between this. While I don't want to see Leverkusen lose Wirtz to Bayern, so they dominate the league again, I don't want Wirtz to go to bloody City of all places.

Ffs United, we've fallen so far we don't even have a chance with the best youngsters anymore :(

Bayern is dominating the league, no matter if Wirtz is at Leverkusen or not. Surely you‘d rather see him having fun with his bestie Musiala at Bayern than have him suffer under ETH at Leverkusen?

I'll be honest, if Wirtz isn't considered a significantly better player than de Bruyne at the end of his career, I'll be hugely disappointed

There's no player that's significantly better than De Bruyne

Yet remember how he was with Henry, Etoo, Ibra...or even less gifted players like Alvarez. Not always Pep uses systems that actually take advantage of the bets traits of the players at his disposal, yet he is great to convince them and add other layers to their games in order to bring great results as a team.
Look at Alvarez even a in a lesser offensive team like Aleti how he thrives, even not having lots of chances to score, yet with a more forward/scorer oriented task, with lots of runs to the channels, to open space, to counter as fast as Aleti can, of players interacting more frequently with him instead of being half (or even more) time a decoy...this sort of stuff also happens with Pep. It's not a dig to him, it's just that certain positions like CMs, DMs, they'll be on paradise with him, other more loose roles, more forward oriented ones, he needs other stuff that can go a bit or a lot with the against the tendencies (and even atributes) of the player involve

Xabi is leaving. Not that there was any serious doubt about that.

What will Wirtz do? I somehow don’t see him „sticking around“ at Leverkusen. Barca is broke, Real has other issues (defense and DM) and hopefully he doesn’t want City. With that being said: who besides Bayern is left?

Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Don’t get my hopes up. Fabrizio Romano said Bayern favourite, Real Madrid and City still interested. There are rumours that Bayern talked him out of the contract extension (surprise, surprise) so that he's cheaper next season. From the sources, it seems City is interested for 2025 and willing to pay, Real Madrid only for 2026 and Bayern prefers 2026 but would also pursue a transfer 2025 if necessary.

No denying it looks pretty bad for us.

If there is a chance for Bayern to get him this summer then they will come up with the money.
It's personal for the old guard and I am certain that Adidas would looooove to have an Adidas athlete at an Adidas club... Wouldn't be the first time that they sweeten a deal.

Spanish Media talking about a verbal agreement between Bayern and Wirtz
What say you, @mazhar13 ?
Wouldn't surprise me, eventually the best Bundesliga players join Bayern or some other European top club. Wouldn't have surprised me if Wirtz had gone to Real with Alonso either. But he would have way too much competition there, given that Vini, Mbappe and Bellingham are probably set in stone for the three attacking positions.

Of course, I would have loved to see him in a Manchester United shirt, but let's be honest, we are not currently at a level that would suite him.

I don't think they very keen on paying a domestic rival €150M. Bayern's record domestic transfer is still Upamecano at €42.5M followed by Götze for €37M and Hummels for €35M. If they can convince him to wait a year and get him with a huge discount, they will do that without hesitation.

According to rumours, they're also interested in Schick. So it's possible our best player, best striker and best defender switch sides next season

Would he really betray his club so horridly by going to a direct rival like Bayern? I don't know much about his character so I have no idea.

It’s not a betrayal in Germany. The Bundesliga exists to funnel players towards Bayern Munich.

I dont think in Germany they call it a betrayal.. most clubs are geared to providing for Bayern.

He played for the Köln in the youth and now plays for Leverkusen. That's like a United youth player moving to City. He has a history of betrayal.

Moving ferm Leverkusen to München (or really everywhere except Köln) is much less betrayal in that sense than from Köln to Leverkusen.

It really must seem that way for outsiders but actually no, clubs aren't doing that voluntarily will but because they're forced to and fans absolutely hate it. Götze for instance had to warm up in the catacombs when he played against Dortmund for Bayern because it was so dangerous for him to be in front of the stands in 2014. Unfortunately, Bayern has the league in a stranglehold. I have no idea what kind of voodoo magic Hoeneß pulls off to convince a player of Wirtz' calibre to play along in their low ball domestic rivals strategy but BILD reported it worked. Can't wait for Hoeneß to be sent into a nursery home. I absolutely despise that man.

90% of Cologne fans didn't even know who Wirtz is when he joined us. So that's hardly comparable, don't you think?

I'm not sure about that number. That transfer was the end of the "Rhineland peace" not to go for each others youth players and was widely reported at the time. Even people who were not fans of the involved clubs noticed the news about that.

And already back then Wirtz was seen as a massive talent. So I doubt that only 10% of their fans had heard of him.

Focus reports Bayern and Wirtz already agreed on a deal.
Now Bayern and Leverkusen have to agree on the transfer fee. Allegedly Bayern offers 100 million Euro. Leverkusen want 150 million Euro.
As Wirtz only wants to join Bayern, they will have a hard time to get this much.

It's his destiny, get over it!

Non-troll though: i don't want to lose him to another league, that would be the worst outcome for German football from this affair.

I can only comment from the outside.... it seems that way.

In the PL... when a big team goes to smaller teams or rivals, they get a PL surcharge to sell... it seems Bayern get a discount when buying from their own league.

Yeah, but that was an attention seeking headline. We still argue that we didn't violate the agreement because we signed Wirtz for the first team, only Cologne saw him as a youth player. Which was the reason he wanted to leave in the first place.

They refer to the BILD report from two days ago. Alonso has disclaimed it on his press conference today. Make of that what you will.

He was the chosen one, he was supposed to destroy the dark side, not join it!

On a serious note though, IMO it would be a catastrophe for German football but since the Bundesliga is in a catastrophic state anyway, it would rather be like a tsunami erasing a forest fire caused by a vulcanic eruption.

If the Bild report is true, we want €150M and Bayern is low balling us with a €100M offer. If Wirtz plays along, we don't have much of a choice. €100M is for us like €300M for United. Would you renounce €300M just to send a message?

Did that actually ever happen? I mean that a sponsor somehow added something (money, contracts, push) to make a transfer happen.
