That one dude.

New Beckham, Spurs and Blackburn...

He’s such a good candidate for this thread that for the life of me I can’t think of his name.

Stephen Ireland was absolutely brilliant one year for City, had a number of big clubs looking at him. Then suddenly he couldn't get into Aston Villa's team. Can't remember if he had an injury or what.

Think it’s more the players that were good or hyped that left their clubs rather than being needed until the end of their careers like Scholes, Giggs, G Nev, Gerrard etc.

His problem was mental... sadly

Josh McEachran.

Looked a genuine world class prospect at 17 so much so Ancelotti (who notoriously likes expierence) was giving him significant minutes.

Now in his supposed peak years has just been released by Brentford where fans were more than happy to see the back of him.

Although that said that was a bit of a funny era all round for English youngsters, I've seen a few of the predicted future England national team lineups from back around that time and

Inter's front 3 of Mancini Adriano Quaresma.

That was touted as being a world beating attack force.

All underperformed and then faded into obscurity.

Yeah but some fade away quicker than others. Going to wrong clubs, not being able to deal with pressure, being overhyped when young, you name it.

I've always found the Ajax dream team of the mid 90s to be interesting to look at it. Very few of em seemed to retire on a relative high. Seedorf, Blind and Van der Sar from that team might be the only ones who kept momentum going til the end, with Kluivert, Overmars, Bogarde, Reiziger etc all falling from their perch relatively fast towards the end.

Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Used to always be a nuisance whenever we played Blackburn, he was also touted as Giggs heir.

Whats the lads name from city? Michael Hall or something? Seemed like a really good CM prospect but apparently became better at drink than football!

Bojan. Don’t even know where he is now.

And Gio Dos Santos.

Quaresma has had a good career, much better one than the other two.

Joe Hart

One of the most influential players for a title winning city team, to 3rd choice Burnley GK when he should be in his prime

Shevchenko slowly faded away once he moved to Chelsea. Real shame, loved watching him.

I saw signs of his decline the year before he joined us to be honest. Goalscoring wise he still had a great season but he just didn't seem as sharp all round as he use to.
