I was watching some old season rundowns and came across this beauty.

Arsene Wenger's 1000th game in charge, a huge occasion, only to get utterly embarrassed by his most hated adversary.

Let's also not forget Zidane's big moment in the WC final, only for him to get sent off, leading to France ending up second best in the tournament.

What other dissapointing big moments can you guys think of?

Any Liverpool-Man. United game at Anfield in recent times.

When was the actual last classic in that fixture, the Berbatov hat-trick one?

2014 world cup final.

Messi through on goal slightly at an angle but on his left foot. Scored many times from that position in a Barca shirt.Hits it just wide of the post.

He also had a free kick right at the end of extra time which he hit miles over the bar.

That was his chance to win the world cup I think.

The through ball he put on a plate for that one player whose name I can never remember, only for him to sky it sticks in my mind too. It just wasn't to be, I guess.

I’d say one for @Balu

Losing the champions league final in the last two minutes of a game after leading for majority of it. Credit for them coming back the next or year after and winning it.

And his last away game was a 6-1 loss against Stoke (he scored the goal tbf)

And his last game vs Man Utd lasted about four seconds.

Man Utd against City in 2008 for the 50th Anniversary of the Munich disaster.
England in major tournaments
That Munich anniversary game comes to mind for me. What a letdown. Think the occasion got to them in a negative way rather than inspiring them. Nice kits though! :)

Genuinely don't remember ever laughing as hard as I did at another football related event.

Zidane s head butt was great, fantastic moment.
He was their talisman and they eventually went into one of the most important penalty shoot-out in most of those player's careers without him. Still think they could have got over the line with him

Possibly but the head butt was crazy, great drama, especially with Matterazi’s ludicrous reaction. I’m not bothered who wins the WC between those two teams.

Higuain I think as he missed loads of chances in that final.

The first ever organized football match. What with confusion over the application of codified laws it was probably crap.

Probably still better than the park the bus football served to us by Mr Mourinho if you ask me.

Gerrards last:
Cup final - 2-1 loss to Chelsea in 2012 FA Cup
Utd match - sent off after 38 seconds
Home match - lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace
Liverpool match - beat 6-1 by Stoke
Ever match - beaten on penalties by Colorado Rapids
Chance to win the title - he literally let it slip

THe Mannchester Derby at the Etihad in 2010 I think?

Sky spent weeks building it up as the biggest Manchester Derby in history due to City finally having a decent team.

The game started. Nothing happened. Berbatov tried a header at one point that went wrong, that was about it.

I'd forgotten that was the match where the ref sent off Keiran Gibbs instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, despite Ox telling him it was him.

Fantastic ending for a twat of a player and a massive hypocrite.

English clubs being banned from Europe. It demonstrated UEFA's prejudice against the EFA at a time we were dominating Europe and the European Cup. Hooliganism was rife across Europe, Greece and Italy were far worse with people being killed on a regular basis, Netherlands and the then Yugoslavia were awful too, but no severe action was taken against any of them.

Being clearly the best team in the 2000 european cup only to miss 5 fecking penalties (two of which in regular time) against Italy in the semi's.

Trashing Italy and France in the 2008 Euro's only to go out against Guus Hiddink's fecking Russia.

But most of all, Robben missing THAT 1 on 1 with Casillas in 2010. It still haunts my dreams.

All of this is from the national team, since being a Feyenoord fan you get used to being disappointed on a regular bases :)

Euro 2016 was a prolonged big stage disappointment really. There were some great stories (Wales, Iceland) but there was very little quality on show.

FA Cup Final 2007 at the new Wembley was such a poor game with a terrible result from our point of view.

From a United point of view I have to say the 2002 CL semi-final against Leverkusen. If we won that we would've been playing Real Madrid in the final at Hampden Park. That would've been an amazing occasion.
