Disallowed by VAR apparently. No idea why, seeing as he's miles onside and there doesn't look to be a foul on the turnover.

EDIT: Seems to be a dodgy offside decision based on a Fenerbahce player being offside before Samsunspor won the ball back and lost it again... which would be a different phase of play, obviously. Good to know their refs are at least as shit as ours.

I never had a problem with Fred. He had his strengths and weaknesses but always gave 100% and unlike most of our midfield, could actually cover some ground (which, you know, is kinda important for midfielders).

He was used in completely the wrong position. Unbelievably, we've then sold him and bought someone else for £60m to press high up the pitch and win the ball back - which is what Fred should have been doing the whole time. If it had been £60m well spent I wouldn't be so annoyed by this.

An integral member of all our best performance last season (albeit often when replacing a tired Eriksen) I guess Mount was supposed to be a replacement/upgrade. Be nice to see him start to look that way…
Erik Ten Hag is crazy for not giving that Fred Casemiro pairing more burn after all the success they had during that run

Few months forward and Fred would probably compete with Dalot and AWB for our most improved player. Shame ETH clearly didn't like him, and used only when no other option.

It seems like he's doing well at Fenerbache. They've won all 10 of their league games and they're also unbeaten 3 for 3 in their Europa conference group.

can we not fall into the trap of constantly pining after people who we know just werent good enough for what we are trying to be, just because their replacements havent been up to par? We know fred has good moments, we also know he has just as many, if not more, moments where he barely looks like a professional footballer with the ball. Just because who we have brought in havent worked out doesnt negate that fact. Same thing with DDG and Onana early on. We should be constantly looking to improve, just sometimes (or a lot in our case ha) the new guy struggles too.

Yeah. He was man of the match in Spurs, Barcelona and City at home. Started both games against Barca, the League cup final, both quarter final legs of the Europa. But then strangely barely played much toward the end of the season including not starting either Europa semi. Daft decision to sell.

I think the decision to sell was influenced by his age and contract status. Plus his weird habit of only ever producing a 1/10 or 9/10 performance. With no way of knowing what comes next.

He leaves a big gap in our squad though. Who can bring his energy and drive to the midfield when we need it? Mason Mount is presumably the answer. If he doesn’t start producing regular “good Fred” performances we’re in deep trouble. And it’s hard to see that happening when he’s not being allowed a run of games.

No matter how deluded you may be about the Mount signing, the fact that fans are missing a player like Fred should be ringing alarm bells at the state of the club.

He was inconsistent but who isn't at United.

The thing is you could actually feel his presence on both sides of the pitch unlike Eriksen and McTominay 90% of the time.

Great to hear he's doing well. Great attitude but lacked that extra little bit of quality.
He really didn’t. He wasn’t consistent but was too ready to sacrifice himself for the good of the team, and to do what the manager asked of him. He was never a DM, look at his Shahktar highlights and he’s much further forward and scored regularly. Our managers all misused him which is why we got good Fred and bad Fred.

He was always a decent player. I was for letting him go just because his inconsistency was so hard to build around. But having said that it’s madness to get rid of Fred who at the very least could be brilliant and keep McTominay who let’s be honest, is consistently shite

Selling him was the correct decision in theory and we shouldn't be missing him. But obviously our recruitment is so poor we're consistently unable to replace players with better ones, so we end up wishing we hadn't sold them

We can agree to disagree about his quality. But i do agree with you that his best role should never have been as a DM. Box to box is how/where he was seemingly always used best. Shows you the utter incompetency of our transfers post SAF.

100% this. Or we sell the "wrong" player(s) and keep even worse ones at the club. Johnny Evans being another example IMO.

Was a promising player with a big engine in him. It just didn't developed to his full potential, which happens to most of football players. Only a few will reach a top club legend level.
