Whats the point of trying to sign a player that doesn't want to come.We should move on from this mess.
I agree 100%. We need 22 hungry, fully committed players plus decent kids to fill in. It’s quite a job to get from where we are to that.

The last thing we want is to bring in overpaid, entitled “superstars” who’d rather be elsewhere (and feel they should be).

In the short term I’m leaning towards consistent, technically able (not flashy), physically strong, aggressive, PL proven players. Two or three MVPs from mid-table sides but don’t ask me who (my tiny mind’s gone blank - do such players exist?!).

Anyway I’m sick of the mercenaries, or the idea of them. I’ve been whingeing about this in another thread but I’m worried we are still going after big names with marketing potential instead of systematically correcting the weaknesses in our squad.

The main issue with that is that, those mid-table MVP players are now 60-70M players, if not more. Maddison for instance at Leicester would cost north of 40M despite being poor for a good while

Yeah, absolutely. There’s no easy solution.

Him being good enough has nothing to do with it. Barca very badly need the money and they can get a lot for him, and it’s an area of the pitch they’re well stocked in with young talent.
They have other assets to sell (those highly rated youngsters, for instance), but decide to let go this "potentially key player to any club" go.

They have 2 very promising academy lads that can cover his place in the squad. That’s the reason. Doesn’t mean FDJ isn’t a top player and levels better than what we currently have.

I don't say otherwise, but just laughing at that tweet's statement.

This all points to Barça stalling not FDJ refusing if you ask me. I say this because FDJ stated in last weeks interview that the club had not informed him of any decision to put him on the market.
I think Barça are stalling to see if the can get funds from other avenues so they don't have to sell and/or hoping other top clubs can enter the race and start a bidding war. I think they know if it come to the point where they have to sell him and Man Utd is the only club at the table, they will definitely not get the €80m they want.

Acc. to rumors' De Jong prefers PSG, Bayern and City over us. Why have we not moved on. If he ends up in United it will only be because he was forced.
Thank you, but no thanks.

Hence why Harry wanted to leave and earn some proper money elswehere. ...
The point is that he couldn't leave due to a long contract, which he signed without Spurs needing to offer the ridiculous wages that United routinely shell out for players of less ability and then find that they can't sell players afterwards because no-one else will pay what United are giving them.

players who can only excel playing in a highly specialised role make me suspicious. Also who does his job for us if he gets injured. Anyway Im sure ETH has the answers
That’s exactly what we need. We need a style, a system... and players that suit it.

We get it Glaston, our recruitment team are shit. The club offer big wages to attract players they think are going to be great but they turn out not so great. If you read the forum you'd know everyone is already in agreement with you.

Well done.

Maybe Spurs' refusal to pay competitive wages has something to do with why you haven't won a trophy in 14 years?

If United should try to emulate any club in the league, it sure as hell wouldn't be Spurs. It would be teams that are actually successful. City pay high wages, they just identify elite players much better than we do.

Also convenient you don't want to talk about Walker, Modric, Berbatov, Eriksen, Trippier, Bale who managed to escape from Spurs so they can get paid their worth.

What about cheese room?

The guy logs out when Spurs are shit and then logs in to spout same rubbish when they are bit less shit.

Conveniently back when they have a decent manager and finish top 4 and we don't. He's a caricature. Back hiding in India before you know it.

All the points he used to make to take cheap shots at ManUtd, Spurs are following same things now. Shat on Jose, they hired Jose. It will be fun reading his posts on Conte and short term manager, they hired Conte. Moaned about clubs signing old players, they signed Perisic.

For some reason he thinks paying less for players is some badge of honor for club.

I’ll never understand half the people on this forum.

He may not want to leave Barca but he may have no choice. If that’s the case he’d better retire, according to a lot on here because, anywhere he goes is obviously going somewhere he doesn’t want to, right?

I remember Robben leaving Real and people on here going on about how they don’t want Madrid rejects. The same people then crying that the club didn’t try to sign them.

If De Jong leaves Barca and comes here, it doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t like us and just joined for money.

Number 8.

He didn't say 8, he said that's why he played 2 6s.

Also reducing the roles to just numbers is just wrong and creates confusion when players playing in same position plays roles differently.

He will fill in the left sided CM role in a 433. I however think that we should abandon the deal and look for an equally talented player who will be fully willing to play for us.

How about Teun Koopmeiners?

Last point is the key part. Paying less for players who actually could be one of the best players, shows what kind of club you are.

Put it simple- Kane , had he played for any top CL club he would be considered as a great along with Lewa or Benzema. What do Kane have now?

Also big clubs pay big wages, that's how it has been forever. There will be a time when the club won't win as much as they want to, but usually they bounce back. They spend big in the market, they spend big on player wages and when they get it right by getting good coach they will back among the trophies.

Would be best signing since RvP easily. We absolutely should go for him. People who are worried he doesn't want to join and will be unmotivated, I think he likes the game too much to not be motivated on the pitch. He's a professional.

That I thought if Ten Hag wasn't to play him in a double-6, I could see him in a traditional Dutch '8' role.
That's why the poster was trying to tell you that ETH's quote didn't mean it as no 8 but the quote was referring to two-6.

August 2022 @ Frenkie's unveiling interview in Manchester following his record transfer:

I have always dreamt of playing in this famous jersey. Manchester was always my favourite English club since I was 4.

I think that De Jong's best position is what we wanted Pogba to be ie the most creative player in a 2 base CM. He's not a DM but he'll help the DM to win the ball, his passing range allows him to cause alot of damage to opposition and he's disciplined enough to release the ball quickly and close gaps.

To be fair he can still play as lone 6 with inverted full back operates like the double 6. In 18/19, ETH operated his full backs wide but last season he played inverted full back.

Maybe we shouldn't base all of our opinions on rumours?
