After watching that.... we should feck with Barcelona a bit and retract our offer saying we have some promising youth prospects instead. La Porta would crap his pants.

We all love United
This is so done. This Barca cnuts are suddenly finding enough money to buy a bloke from Leeds. Frenkie should be kicking up a fuss and demanding them to pay his owed wages instead of spending it on a transfer

27 minutes since a post in here.....what the feck is going on?!!
Let me summarise the missing posts.

It's off - we've been dim again, Barcelona messing us about, woe is us.
It's definitely on - just a game of smoke and mirrors.

Just x those two posts 100s of times if ever you think you're missing out.

The deal seems imminent, but it's seemed imminent for several weeks. Soon we need to decide when it will be time to panic if the deal has not been, shall we say, consummated.

Hope he's feckin gutted that he's missed out on the opportunity to lift the Bangkok Century Cup.
Wonder if he feels he should have just let go the 17m Barca owe him and would rather have the Bangkok Century Cup.

With Barca suddenly wrapping up Raphinha and looking closely at Lewa then given the sequence of events I’d say this looks more likely than it has done so far.

Arnold, the sign off man, being present in Barca yesterday was the key.

Fully expect some movement in the coming hours/days.

He is taken a long time to get off that exit ramp, is he stuck in a magic roundabout at the top or something?

I hate this journalist. I really think I do.
I feel the quote is inaccurate, so let's wait for @mazhar13 to check this, it seems its just a comment in an older article rehashed by the aggregator
Correct, it's inaccurately translated by ManagingBarca. Here's the Tweet to the article.

Here's the original quote in Spanish from the article:
El club británico ya presentó alguna primera oferta, pero que fue considerada insuficiente por el Barça.
Which translates to:
The British club have already made an initial offer, but it was deemed insufficient by Barça.
After that sentence was this key statement:
Los azulgrana aspiraban de salida a cobrar un mínimo de 80 millones fijos por el holandés, cantidad a la que el United sólo llegaba sumando los variables.
The Blaugrana wanted to charge a minimum of 80 million for the Dutchman, an amount that United could only reach by adding the variables.
This article basically adds favourable context to the recent report from Oriol Domènech to appease the Barcelona fans and socios. The gist of it is that Barcelona want to keep de Jong for sporting reasons and see him as a key player, but they are compelled to let him go due to their financial issues. This way, at least Barcelona can look like they've done everything they can to keep de Jong but had no other choice except to make him leave for the good of the club.

Thanks, recent reports from reliable Barca sources (Oriol Domènech) state that both clubs reached an agreement, so it would be weird if another reporter from Mundo contradicted it by saying "Barca deemed United's offer insufficient"

Imagine the board watching the Liverpool game and thinking, we don't need anymore signings. We have the right players. Then there's idiots here saying walk away from this deal.

Hats off for pulling this deal. And extra points dealing with Barcelona.

We offer you... Aye, that's grand, can you just pay him also the wages that we own him. Ridiculous.

Barcelona are signing the second lever next week apparently

And I read that Barcelona want to sell De Jong after that’s signed (can’t remember the details but it will look better on their accounts apparently to sell after that lever is signed)

De Jong can do more than dribble as I already said.
De Jong is the only player who reminds me of Cruijff, he is fast, not to tackle reads the game and can play in the defence, midfield, he is the engine of each time, set the overdrive to a squad at his moment and back...with him, Donny and Eriksen...this midfield will be fantastic....

Not disagreeing but not sure how that'd work unless their year end was between the second lever and the sale

Bit of both.

Barça can’t afford for him to stay on his current deal.
De Jong won’t agree to a salary reduction or leaving without being paid what he is owed.

As much as people want to get their knickers in a twist, it’s at stalemate until those two parties can come to an agreement on how to proceed.

De Jong holds all the cards though, make no mistake about that. If Barca really need him off the books so bad they agreed a deal with United, they will eventually be forced to make a settlement with the player.
If they don’t, De Jong stays on 17m minimum a year and Barça shoot their wage cap in the foot, and can’t register all new players they want. De Jong would obviously still be a very important player for them in that situation.
Anyone know what are we offering in wages and how does it compare to his current wage packet at Barcelona (deferral aside)?

If the choice is 50% paycut at Barca or 50% paycut at United, I can see the conundrum.

If the choice is 50% paycut at Barca or earn the same (or more) at United, then it's a no-brainer.

That's the point I was making. We'd be absolutely fecking insane to start with that midfield. I couldn't care less what we pay to sign this guy. Wanted him from Ajax when speculation came about he was off to Barcelona. They have paid a fair price for their own shortcomings.

Arnold and Murtough in Barcelona

24hrs later, Romano reporting Barcelona have reached an agreement for €68m for Raphina

I'm going to declare this to mean its 100% happening

I seriously doubt anyone argues that we should walk away from the deal on account on the strength of the squad. I'm still in the pro-FDJ-deal camp, but if it turns out to be the case that the player really, really does not want to come to United it wouldn't be irrational to walk away from the deal and move on to other targets.

This seems lost on most in this thread.
No it's not. De Jong isn't gonna piss away his career by sitting in the stands because Barca is his dream club.
The only people that don't piss off when the club wants them to is deadwood happy to ride out a fat contract.

The problem with this vid is he gave a poor pass away and surrendered possession after the run. It becomes meaningless.
I didn't think the pass was that bad despite it being intercepted. He was trying to thread the ball between the two defenders to put Elanga through.
