I also wanted Senna but a few good performances in the world cup and all of a sudden Hargreaves was the dog's bollocks on this place. He's not had many good matches in the center for us either, hence SAF's shunted him out wide when he was fit.
It was the failure to sign Essien that lead to SAF courting Hargreaves. I still don't understand how Senna didn't secure his move. Was it the player, the club or Villarreal that stopped the transfer ultimately?

I don't buy into the Glazers wanting British players crap (when they were signing multiple foreign youngsters and signed Anderson and Nani the following summer).

It was United who stopped the transfer, Senna spoke about how excited he was to sign for us and then we acted like complete dicks and called it off.

I echo sentiments that Hargreaves last game for us was the 7 seconds he had against Sunderland, the part where SAF says he doesnt know when he'll be back doesnt fill you with confidence.

What a shame was great for us in his first season with us and was a player we really could have done with in those away UCL games or when we lost all our defenders

“United stands for attacking, attractive football
To be fair if Ben Hibbs is reporting it on his twitter that probably means that he he's just been appointed captain and is in line to break the record amount of appearances made in a single season for Manchester United.
To be fair BH sits in the same office as the reporter who has just written the article on the United website about Hargreaves. They are both journalists employed by United and who work at OT.

We did at the time have a tendancy to sign at least one British player, along with foreign players.

Carrick + Foster, then Hargreaves as an England international with Tevez, Anderson and Nani. So we did have more of a British edge to our transfers for that period than we had before, or after.

Sadly Curly is going to go down as United's worst ever buy*. It isn't the guys fault and I'd never call him a flop as that is reserved for just one player at our club. I do feel for him but I also feel for United as we have stood still for 18 months waiting for his return. I have detected a real sense of disappointment and even exasperation in Fergies last few press conferences in relation to Hargreaves and a hint of a significant psychological problem.

* Hargreaves cost £17M with a conservative 3yrs at £4M per season. Total cost £29M for 37 appearances (and I'm not gonna give him 60 seconds last season). Sabre Veron has gone down in folklore as Uniteds if not the Premierships worst buy. Veron cost a net £13M with estimated £2M per season wages. Total cost £17M for 82 appearances. Therefore Veron was 3.5X better value than Hargo's cost of £780K per game.

Carrick had what one bad season since we brought him? If only we won something of note to prove he isnt a waste! And Andersons what 21?
carrick has struggled for form the last 2 seasons - anderson was poor after his first season

with this injury i wonder will this be the catalyst for going after the AM we would benefit from

To be fair i think Carrick has been pants for a season and half (i think it all started with the inter away game in 2009 but he was still a good buy. Even next season in a midfield 2 or 3 he would next to fletcher be one of the first names in our midfield. As for Anderson hes young and learning to play a position that not many master until their mid-20's, hes got time on his side and i reckon he'll come back stronger for it.

I think Andersons problem is just consistancy, he trys the harder passes which comes off sometimes which frustrates me but when he starts to become more mature im sure we will see the benefits of it.

I dont think they knew, Hargreaves himself said that he felt he hid the true extent of his injury - for what reason i dont know but after he broke his leg it was a gamble and after we won the UCL i thought it was a reasonable one, sure now after not seeing him for 2 seasons we can say it wasnt a good gamble but hell hingsights a beautiful thing

The ridiculous thing is that Ferguson had to put his foot down to stop him going to the WC. I'm not blaming Hargreaves for this fiasco but I'd like to have a few words with the incompetent doctor that passed his medical.
Save for actually opening Hargreaves' knee up during the medical, how was the doctor or any of the medical staff to know the true extent of the damage to it?

But anyway, it's hard to see him making a comeback now which is a real shame for him.

Wow Hargreaves isn't ging to be fit? There's a fecking shock.

All we can do is count down the days until his contract runs out next summer and send him off on his wheelchair into the sunset.

Wouldn't it be funny if we give him an extension (if he manages a few matches this season)?
When does his contract end? Im guess it will be this summer if he signed a 4 year deal in 2007, would be mighty annoying if he left then played every game for his new club

Ferguson told MUTV: "The bad news is that Owen Hargreaves is back in America seeing a specialist. He will not be ready for the start of the season. I do not know when he will be back."

Ferguson also fears Rio Ferdinand will not be ready for the first game of the season against Newcastle.

The England defender suffered a knee injury in training ahead of the World Cup match with the United States and was unable to play in South Africa.

Ferguson said: "Rio will probably not make the start of the season. It will be close. It depends on his progress over the next few weeks."

If we give him an extension then David Gill or whoever makes the decision is a feckin idiot.

He does not deserve a new contract, even if he has a good season. One good season doesn't make up for a £17m transfer fee and a handful of games in 3 years. He's out for god knows how long anyway so the chances of him having a good season are pretty slim!!!

Maybe a pay-as-you play deal would be an option instead - but he'd need a part time job in McDonalds or somthing as he'd never see a penny from United.

But I really do think his name is just a wasted place on our books - especialy with the new cap that's in place.

Any sort of deal we do to renew his contract would have to be on that sort of basis

He should offer to work for free - just like that lad from AC milan. We've paid enough for his rehab, at least have the decency to repay the club/fans somehow.

Yeah it must be so hard earning millions of pounds and doing feck all.

What a poor guy.
Many would trade places, obviously, but give him a break. He just wants to play football and his career is being destroyed. He's worked his socks off for two years and now it all could be in vain.
