Unless I am a bit stupid, I couldn't find a recent thread on him. I will delete (if I can) if I am proved to be the stupid idiot that Mum always said I am.

Thoughts? Would love to see one of the best English strikers ever play for United, even though I am realistic we would only get 2 or 3 top quality seasons out of him. But surely his next move is going to be geared towards winning trophies. I love United but am realistic that United isn't the place to do that in 2022

The club want Kane, regardless of who is charge next season

Ugh.

Exactly the sort of signing we shouldn't be looking to make this summer.

Don't want him. Buying Harry Kane will prove we've learned absolutely nothing these past how many seasons since Fergie left. It would be like Woodward never left, a signing made purely because it will generate clicks and media hype. Is he a quality striker? Of course. Is he going to be 29 and cost close to if not over 100 million and blow most of our budget when we need to be filling major gaps in other areas of the field again leaving us threadbare or lacking in quality? Yes, so why the hell do we insist on being stupid enough to do this. This summer is the time to say we've changed, we're looking to build a squad, a team, not individuals for ridiculously overpriced amounts as we have been doing.

If he cost around the 30million mark i'd say absolutely. You think Levy will sell to us for any less than quadruple that when he turned down a similar amount from City? Absolutely no chance

He's objectively class, one of the best strikers in the world. But he's 29 and £100m on a 29 year old seems mental, I'm also not convinced it won't cost a lot more considering how much Spurs hate us. Rebuilding midfield is absolutely crucial, I'm aware we'll need a striker but I'd rather the bulk of our money goes to quality midfield additions.

Great player, but not suited with either Sancho or Bruno for me as it stands.

If we were to add a penetrative goalscorer on the right, and also play with a more traditional midfield 3, then he’d be perfect. As it stands, Kane needs a Son (and the space Bruno occupies) and Sancho and Bruno need a Haaland.

He's a very good striker, but we have far too much work to do in midfield and defence to get a side that Ten Hag/Enrique will be able to use productively, to be able to afford this kind of outlay on a single player.

This summer, perhaps more than any other in recent years, we really need to be very clever with our spending - signing Kane is exactly the kind of big, expensive, dumb move that we need to avoid.

sorry to put it so bluntly. It is idiotic to spend 100 million to buy that 29 years old Harry Kane who is obviously declining and getting more and more injuries. I would rather gamble on two 50 million strikers (like Schick) with the same amount of money.

We bought 29 years old VPS who was premier league player of the year at 24 million, inflation included, no more than 45 million in terms of today's price!

He's brilliant but we've missed the boat here. Can only see him declining. It would be just like us to offer him a ten year, 500k a week contract mind.

Was thinking about Kane to United the other day as a possible destination but I don't see the fee being reasonable. It would be a sideways move for him of course, perhaps wants a change of scenery. Also there's a lot to play for in the league still. Seems nailed on for Arsenal to finish 4th, all three teams United Spurs Arsenal could in theory swap places come the end. The managers and where clubs end up could really play a role on whether Kane stays or jumps ship.

Or whoever becomes our manager.

Manchester United signing through and through. 90 million+ on a 400k/week or whatever? He will fit right in.

This club...

Just read this. Not sure Whitwell is that reliable. Tends to come out with vague stuff and has had very little to say on the new manager or what Rangnick will do from next season. If he had something there I’d think his info might have more to it. This seems just like it’s put together from past conversations and of course, at some point, United will have wanted Kane.

If United are planning for Ronaldo and Kane up front, regardless of manager then they really are learning nothing.

Never have I seen his name spelt like this :P

RVP had 1 year left on his deal, that was the difference.

Please no.

And to decide to go for him regardless of the manager is hilarious:lol: and hopefully untrue

Poch and Kane - our goal is to be Spurs. Pathetic.

This is what happens when G.Neville slyly runs your club

In fairness, it’s not as if this is some no mark footballer we are interested in. It’s not difficult to understand the attraction to Harry Kane, he’s an exceptional centre forward. And we need a centre forward. I think people are going well overboard in this thread with their reactions and insinuating that the club is so terrible for wanting to sign Harry fecking Kane.

I’m not dead set against, I mean if nothing else he’s 5-10 yrs younger than our most recent striker signings!
I do however question how the dynamic with Ronaldo would work when they both expect to play every game, and I think we’d have the same problem of supply for Kane that we have seen this season with Ronnie.
Also, if we spend big money for Kane that rules out a big money move for Rice etc….? You’d assume MF should be the priority.( not saying that I want rice necessarily. He’s a tad over hyped and way overpriced!)

A World Class Center Forward.
I've been hoping for years we'd go for him. The type of forward Fergie would've gone for 4/5 years ago.

I wouldnt be totally against it but he's 29 yrs old now. How many more years has he left at the top of his game? that's the big question for me.

Knowing our luck we'd sign him and he'd end up a crock like Varane...a £250k + whatever a week player stuck in the treatment room...

IMO the profile of players we should be going for are younger players on the verge of being world class. Plus we still need a midfield.

Still think he’s priced out of a move for one more season. He’s contracted until 2024 so I can see him being an option for sides next summer.

Surely nonsense. What's the actual point of our scouts otherwise?

A summer long saga over Kane when we have so many holes in the team would be ridiculous.

Ill go against the grain and say go all in for Kane. He's not my ideal signing - Haaland and Mpbappe would be better of course. However strikers are a rare breed. The really top strikers are very very rare. Who are the elite strikers in the world today? Lewa, Ronaldo. Benzema - All old. Then you have Haalnad and Mpbappe and Kane. Thats it. The rest are B class strikers. Just look how hard it is for Chelsea and City to get a top striker. Its been impossible. It just so happens that the best strikers in the world are available this summer - Mbappe, Haaland and Kane. Id say try get one. Sure if we have some kind of enlightened transfer moment and unearth the next Haaland, Mbappe etc for next to nothing Im all for it. But odds are Shick/Issak will be getting you 10/15 goals and cost 70 mill if we are lucky. Id take Kane and a guaranteed 20+ goals for an extra 30 mill. When was our our last top striker? I for one would like to see another striker at the level of Van Persie, Rooney, Ruud etc before Im dead. YEah we had Ronaldo and Zlatan but past thier prime. Yeah its a risk because of his injuries but fk it.

Unless this is somehow going to make us more money than it costs to bring Kane to United and pay him then we should steer well fecking clear of this kind of shite.

Chasing Kane would further prove that the board learns nothing from their mistakes. It wouldn't be surprising, but it would be disappointing.

He’s a great forward. One of my favourites.

The problem is he’s 29, got glass ankles and cost 100m.

Not what we need. It’s a pretty tap on a leaking pipe. Fix the pipe.

Did you not know? They started with 5,000 strikers and narrowed it down to Kane being the best of the bunch along with Haaland and Mbappe. Tough work but someone has to do it, ya know?

There is no indication that we have no intention to ‘fix the pipe’. The very story that says we want Kane also says that we want two midfielders and a winger. I’m not sure if it will simply make people feel better if we went for a less good, less known striker as it would somehow indicate that we ‘are now making the right sort of signings’. If the club plans on strengthening a number of positions, I am happy for them to not target lesser players for the sake of it.

And a large part of the leaking pipe is not having a reliable goalscorer anyway.

We aren’t spending money on a Kane and getting Tcoumani and Tielemans for instance. It’s not feasible.

I’m not the silly support that feeds off that logic. But what I’m fully aware of is if you spend £100m on the premium striker(which we have already) that means the budget for the actual premium midfielders you need is less likely. Also means something has to give. Yes the article sounds nice but if you get Kane you don’t have the budget for two CM’s and a winger.

Also last time I checked. Spurs had Kane, Dembele, Ali, Eriksen the lot and still didn’t win nothing. So sorry if I don’t really care if it’s Kane or Johnathan David. This isn’t get Van Perise and we win the league stuff. It’s a different type of leak mate.

Yeah, I think on a free it'll be worth the wages to age risk but for a huge fee this summer or a still large one next it's tough to get excited about. That's money we need to spend elsewhere and on younger players unless Ten Hag or a new manager comes in and somehow gets a ton of development from at least 2-3 of Dalot, Lindelof, Van De Beek and maybe one of the attackers out right (Elanga, Rashford, Diallo, Pellistri) and they become quality starting players, which seems like a ton to ask.

Another dumb feck United big money signing! Yes please!

Yeah, it’s a real head scratcher that one…

Well there's money but couldn't he get the same amount plus move to a team more likely to win things than us right now? That's why he supposedly wanted the move to City.

If we're not even in the Champions League next season then we can't be that appealing. Not ruling us out but we can't be favourites to qualify at this time. He'd be swapping a team he has affinity with to one he doesn't but no big step up in chances of collecting a few medals for extra cash.

From our perspective I'd rather go for someone we could build onto that level of player anyway. Someone with untapped potential still who we'd get more years out of.
