Harry Kane | "I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

The real question is. How much is the PL trophy to you is? To win it, you need someone who will finish every chance. Kane is that someone. We've spent far more and received less them that.

Yes. Behind the scenes, that's the sort of calculation that takes place. 150m + X in wages over 5-6 years against appearances/contribution metrics/competition prize money/ancillaries blah blah.

He's 28 by the time next season starts. Would we really want to spend upwards of £125m on him? Especially with how bad his injury record is getting.

No one aside from prime fecking idiot period derp-derp-look-at-the-big-deals-we're-swinging Woodward/Judge would want to spend upwards of 125m on him. Levy's not a moron. In his mind, real value (the 'lowest he will go') should be around 90m-100m.

Its just terrible that they are at clubs who play the best transfer poker. I reckon most other clubs would have given in and sold Sancho for £80 mil in the middle of the pandemic. We'll be rinsed if we go for any of the 3 of them. And its a pity because Cavani has shown what we can do with an outright number 9 and Sancho would be the perfect RW for the team too.

I'm not optimistic.
I think we showed last year that we are happy to pull out if we don't feel terms are fair. Dortmund clearly thought we'd cave and pay what they wanted, Sancho did too considering how stroppy he was for the first few months of the season.

I think we will go back in for him this summer 100%. Dortmund would be smart to sell both Sancho and Haaland and reinvest the cash in players that actually want to be there.

Its Dortmund's model to do that so I am sure if they got the right offer they would cash in.

Surely there is another 25/30 goal machine out there, even a potential one. I really hope that Ole and the scouting team are doing there homework and do it properly because as much as I like Kane or Haaland, we will get rinsed by their clubs, more so by Levy.

Which is why I found their high horse position last year quite strange. They'd obviously set on £120m before COVID and then didn't want to backtrack - but nobody in their right minds was going to spend that much with what was going on.

The Kane and Haland threads are pretty much the same, PSG can afford, City can but have not yet paid more than 60-70m per player and would need to change policy. Chelsea is another option, so it's the oil clubs. No-on else is spending 120-150m to get them this summer.

For Kane there isn't many options if you want to secure trophies and CL in England, it's City. It looked like Liverpool would be part of a top 2 but are now 6th. Only one ever present which is the Abu Dhabi City project. Chelsea look to be the next one inline after Roman is spending again to get them back. Could be quite a force if Werner is swapped out.

Covid and the top 4 rat race of wealthy clubs makes it difficult. The spread of wealth in the PL plus two oil clubs can be a hindrance, hence why they wanted 6 places securing in the ESL. Most of the top 6 are in and out of CL yet the players want guaranteed CL football.

Yes. Game changer.

Bellingham and Haaland? Fecking moronic. Young players who went for less than 30m is your evidence that we can’t compete for top players? Do you think Dortmund could have beaten us to Bruno? Or Pogba? Or Cavani? Or Van de Beek? Or Telles? Or Matic? Or just about anyone we’ve signed over 20 fecking 3.

The team you have mentioned have lost their player of the year twice to us, one of them literally left kicking and screaming. We’ve broken every record in football in recent years. Yet we can’t compete? We signed Maguire ahead of City, with Pep coming out and saying they couldn’t match the fee. We signed Sanchez ahead of City because they couldn’t compete. You’re talking absolute nonsense - we are no less able to compete for top players now than we have been at any point in the last 30 years.

Doesn't matter their age, we wanted them and the players decided Dortmund were a better option. We went all out for Bellingham, SAF gave him a guided tour of the facilities and met his family. You don't do that if you are half interested.

As for the others you mention it seems like selective memory, let's go through them one by one. Point being when we are competing against other big clubs we don't come out on top.

Bruno - we bottled it the summer before we signed him and he was apparently a couple of million away from being a spurs player. Luckily they are as tight as us. He was then bought in Jan out of somewhat desperation for fan unrest and poorly performing team.

Pogba - this is one I would concede, but is the exception rather than the rule. Was made as a statement when they thought 1 or 2 signings would get us back to the top.

Cavani - a free agent that nobody bet on all summer. Purchased on deadline day out of desperation. The awfully bad playing and failed summer meant he was available until weeks into the season.

Van de Beek - who else where actually in for him? Real were rumoured but had no money. I don't think there was any competition.

Telles - who else was in for him?

Matic - who else was in for him?

Wear your rose tinted specs all you like but watch the two champions leagues semis and tell me that under this ownership we can get anywhere near that level. Particularly last night's game.

No but being a director in corporate marketing I think I know how these things work.

I take it they let you know what I'm saying isn't the case though since you are so assured?
Yes because the burden of proof is absolutely on the person questioning someone making wild assertions. and working in marketing isn’t evidence bud. I assumed with you being so assured and making such definitive statements you might have some actual proof.

Madrid had VDB wrapped up. PSG came in for him when we had our bid accepted per the player himself.

Didn't say it was evidence, just said it offers insight into how Comms teams and PR works. They didn't employ Niel Ashton to then not create spin...

Also wouldn't label my opinion as a wild assertion at all. If you think the notion is that far out their you must be extremely naive.

Okay mate  have a nice day buddy.

A 'goal machine' is going to go for £80m+ whoever it is. Plus who else actually is there? There's a dearth of reliable elite strikers.

As for 'potential' goal machines... we already have one in Greenwood. We don't need more potential in this area of the pitch, we need a player that can score us 25-30 goals next season.

lilcurt won that exchange IMO.

It's a no to Kane for me. Gets injured too much for my liking these days.

This summer for him could have been been like Shearer pre Euro 96 IF the price tag wasn't so high, would be happy to give Amad a proper chance on the RW if I really believed we had any chance of signing him at all.

Lack of service?

We've scored the second highest amount of goals in the league. Only behind City.
We had a huge amount a goals in very specific games, yes.
I don't think it's even a secret that we lack creativity - shown by the constant slow, dull going nowhere passing game - and especially in big games (apart from City) we are incredibly flat and our strikers starve in theses situations.

We might be 2nd highest amount of goals but that's down to our attackers being more clinical not down to service. Our xG is still behind City, Liverpool, Chelsea. The xG reflects to the good quality amount of chances being created.

It’s a tricky one, if we keep Cavani, we don’t really need him for another year ... He is too expensive for his age... remind me again another player went for 125m at 28 age? 25-26 perfect sweet spot...I rather keep Cavani, and invest money in Defence, RW and defensive midfielder.....Total outlay approx ... 170m-180m

Sell out: One goal keeper (will be difficult to keep both happy)... 20-30m.... Dallot (can we get 20m for him)? LINGARD 30-40m, Jones (free)...

Total spend 100-100m net ... Set us up for success ....

Too expensive for me. No clubs in a massively strong financial position to be spending like pre covid. That's why the whole superleague idea was touted.

Yeah I would love to keep Edi as well but almost certain that we won't be getting all of CB, CDM & RW. Still feel like it is going to be ONE first XI signing in those positions and two potentials again but really hope we get more proven quality

I’d rather we signed Lewandowski than Kane if Bayern would let go for £70 million. Get a few top years out of him then Greenwood can naturally move into that position.

Lewa is a better and let’s face it probs fitter than Kane will ever be even at an older age. Would also command similar wages.

You want us to go and sign 32 YO Lewandowski for 70 Mill? Crazy talk!

Kane is a world class player, no doubt at all. If we were to invest, he'd be the safer option but I feel with his contract having three years left on it, he'll still be a Spurs player next season.

Completely agree with this. We'd be better off putting goals in the midfield instead, get Grealish and Sancho this summer then sort the striker situation out the following summer.

I have no doubt in my mind that we won't buy him any time soon.

We will probably get him on free in 3 years time and he'll score a shitload and we're all gonna sing the same song, "why oh why isn't he 5 years younger...." and "should have bought him 3 years ago....."

Aka the same story with Zlatan and Edinson.

There are other players where we should spend 100m. He signed that new contract which basically locked him in, his mistake

I want Sancho at all costs but if Kane is available, he’s the only one i want above Sancho, even more so than Haaland. Kane is just one player but he would absolutely push us to the next level we need to achieve

Would you still feel the same if Ole persuaded Cavani to give us one more year

Whether we go for Kane or not this summer is pretty obviously going to depend on what Cavani decides.

If he stays I think we'll "encourage" Kane to run down his contract and wait for us to sign him in 2022.

This would be lovely but, sadly, given the amount it'd cost, my magic eight ball says 'outlook is bleak'. I've a feeling that Cavani will end up staying and that the club will explain away not spending money on a top CF using the Greenwood grooming excuse.

Assuming Pogba stays, we only need one of Sancho or Grealish plus a DM (Rice if we can afford him).

Re Kane, we do need a 25-30 goal player. But I won’t be surprised if Greenwood hits those kind of numbers next year (nobody could demand it of him but I just think he’ll quietly churn out a goal every two games, he’s exceptional). We don’t need Kane at the price he will cost; if we can keep Cavani, let’s spend the dosh elsewhere.

I don't think Kane's interest would be the problem. I think he'd back himself to be joining a better team than Tottenham that is missing a top class striker and that he could be the one that gets us into the mix for winning major trophies. At Tottenham that just isn't very likely for the foreseeable future. He would also know there are a limited number of clubs that can even afford him and perhaps even fewer that want him.

However, it would certainly be a massive gamble on our part with these injuries he keeps picking up. Unless we can get him on the pitch for the vast majority of the season it would not justify a massive fee as we would need him week in week out to have any hope of winning a title and even then we are weaker than City in some areas. We would have to be dealing in titles for this one to pay off as he is in his absolute peak and is a massive outlay in fees and wages. I do think if he stays clear of injuries he'll be a brilliant player into his 30s, he's not that quick anyway, but that's a big if.

Ultimately, I don't think we will have the type of budget to pull this off unless Tottenham accept something lower than anticipated, which does not seem likely. You cannot just ignore our financial results, they will have to play a part this summer.

Are you crazy? Show me the evidence that we can compete with other big clubs for top players?

We couldn't best Dortmund to Bellingham and Haaland in the first place for god's sake.

The Glazers want to avoid spending at all costs.
The Glazers are terrible owners but make no mistake - our shortcomings are nothing to do with a lack of spending. We’ve spent hugely just not very well.

His injury record is not as bad as its made, he's only missed 5 games this season. But on 19/20 he missed 16 games and in 18/19 he missed 17. He's been "healthy" actually this season.
