Harry Kane MBE | Performances

That's what he does. Rushes recovery, does not have a proper one, plays some games, and gets another injury.

Him playing in the final will be a disaster.

Yeah although to be fair, this latest injury didn't seem to be from not being fully fit. It was just an insane tackle where he tried to do Delph and ended up doing himself instead. Could've happened to anyone that time.

This is the biggest game of his life, with the chance for Spurs to lift the biggest trophy in club football. He'll have the summer to recover if needed.

Of course he's going to play if fit. This isn't Spurs v. W.Ham in the League Cup 2nd round.

That’s not only about the summer and his recovery.
In the 13-14 CL final, Diego Costa was rushed to fit for for the final, was subbed after 15 minutes which cost Atletico a sub, in a match with ET that could be costly.

It's a consideration, yes, but I'd trust Pochettino and the medical staff to know what's best. And who knows, maybe Poch is only planning to put Kane on the subs bench - for the 2nd half if needed.

Hope he doesn't play the final because as usual he'll rush himself back and then not be ready

I'm not sure if he'd prefer to sit on the sidelines as Liverpool maul his team; he'll be helpless to prevent it either way.

Should be the Top Sub, to score the winning goal or equalizer after the +70 minute.

Otherwise, if he rushes it and starts the match since the beginning, it will be Diego Costa 2014 all over again.

Last thing Klopp will want to see is Kane on the starting lineup.

It’s a one off game and I think Spurs should start him. Ok, it’s a gamble but worth taking imo.

Kane will start, I’m sure.

Well you shouldn't given they showed their incompetence less than a month ago with the Vertonghen injury.

Whether he starts or not, I'm not fuzzed either way. I think Son is currently a bigger threat for our defence, especially since Kane has been out for a while and it'll be his first game back. Let Van Dijk or Matip get phsyical on him on his first few touches and I can imagine him being rattled enough.

Tests showed that Vertonghen wasn't concussed so according to FIFA and UEFA's protocols he was free to play on - whether these protocols need looking at is another argument altogether, really don't know what Vertonghen's head has to do with Kane's ankle though tbh.

Because his initial statement was "I trust our medical staff", even though history has shown that the medical staff of a pro sports team will make questionable judgments under pressure of managers and/or owners, e.g. Salah with Egypt at the WC last year when he played while obviously not fit enough to perform at the required level.

I'm in no doubt that even if Kane plays or starts the final, he'll not be 100% fit. The CL final is a game where you're gonna take that risk though, most probably under heavy painkillers if need be.

Nope this was confirmed by a specialist who saw him in the week, he wasn't concussed.

He’ll start. You know it. He’s practically Rooney now. Him being on the pitch will be considered more important than what’s best for the team.

So? He was clearly in no state to carry on, you don't need to be concussed for that.

I was talking about medical staff in general, not just the Vertonghen incident. Just because a player is cleared to play does certainly not mean he's actually fit enough to start.

What are you talking about? :D Obviously at the time he was in a state to carry on otherwise they wouldn't have let him back on the pitch, he wasn't showing any ill effects from the knock until a couple of mins after which was when he was rightly subbed off.

Things like this happen all the time in sports, it happened to Salah in the CL final where the Liverpool medical staff thought he was fine to carry on playing only to break down in tears 5 mins later holding his shoulder and had to go off and it happened to Karius in the same match who was allegedly 'concussed' yet wasn't even seen to by the staff which is negligent to say the least, surprised you didn't know this tbh. I'm not sure you can use an isolated incident as an overall conclusion regarding medical staff.

Again though if Kane is fit he plays, he was apparently rushed back the last time he got injured and was fine so I don't get the outrage personally.

Didn't a "specialist" confirm that Karius was concussed in the CL final after Ramos tapped him in the head?

Yep, you saying that these specialists could actually be incorrect or are you saying the two incidents are mutually exclusive?

I'm making the point that it's very easy to get a specialist to say whatever you want them to say in these sort of situations.

No, what you are saying is you have no clue about concussions. The outward symptoms and even the original contact can differ wildly and often very simple incidents cause more trauma than ones that look as gruesome as the one with Vertonghen.

Most cases of concussion have no signs of head trauma, and you can be concussed without any contact to the skull at all (due to rapid acceleration or deceleration of the skull causing the brain to impact internally).

Haven't seen anything in your post that refutes his claim, because it was true.

Oh sure, don't start the best striker in the Premier League and arguably the best striker in the world because you might not have an extra sub should the game goes to extra time. Jesus. If this guy can walk even 5 meters without a cane or a limp, you play him. No questions asked. It's not even a discussion. You take the risk. You take the risk because, if your Tottenham, you may never get this chance again.

His selfishness costing his teams two trophies in five days. Keep rushing back from injuries mate.

Honestly think England are a better side without him leading the line.

Play better with pace on the counter.

Could argue Tottenham played better without him too.

If I was Levy, I might be tempted to cash in(though I doubt any club overseas needs him now).

You should have seen how unhinged the Spurs lot became when I mentioned this simple fact. They got exactly what they deserved in the CL final with Kane upfront. And now England too.

I think Kane is great, but getting rid of a striker like RVN to play a wide spread attack like Ronaldo, Rooney & Tevez was wonderful. Whilst Kane isn't RVN by any means - he isn't exactly like the other 3 either. Football has changed & that type of single striker leading the line & slowing the front football is getting less and less used.

Because it's a stupid fact.

cc @SquishyMcSquish. Another one.

England are a better side without him now .. despite the fact England are only here because Kane scored late vs Croatia, and before that was MOTM and completely dominated Spain's backline.

40 goals for us last season, top scorer this season despite both ankle problems. But thank god we proved how good we were without him, you know when we lost to Bournemouth and West Ham and then drew to Everton at home. Magnificent.

You're right, it was a fantastic decision playing him in the CL final.

The stupid thing is thinking we're better off without Kane in general. It's not true and is absurd.

There's an argument over whether we should have played him in the final due to him lacking in sharpness/not being fully fit, but that's all.

I think the problem came when we decided to bring Kane & Lingard, because that lowered the pace outlet. We'd have had more of a complimentary threat if Kane was brought on and Sancho kept his place. Lingard was hovering quite close to Kane and never really provided any natural width.
