Does anyone know anything about Malo Gusto, the French right back from Lyon? The Athletic earmarked him as the ideal option us (@Berbaclass linked the Tifo video). With AWB seemingly transfer listed, ten Hag must surely want to bring someone in - unless he thinks Dalot and Laird have got it covered.

Don't think we're getting a DM, sadly.

Looks like we may wrap up 4 signings in one go quite soon. I would assume the 5th is down to how well we sell Pereira/Bailley/Jones/AWB/ Martial

Its great we are going to make signings imminently but also concerning how few look like addressing problem positions. Backing the manager is one thing but we appear to have given him carte blanch over signings so if it doesn't work out the squad will need another rebuild in a couple of years

Still a major concern that none of them is either a natural RB, CDM or RW which we desperately need

We were never going to fix all the holes in one window, so I dont find it. A major concern.

Also I think Ten Hag will get the best qualities out of our set of players, so certain players may surprise us. My punt is on Fred.

In the attacking front, VDB and Eriksen can operate in the front line, and have done before. He will have many options regardless.

We had holes before a raft of players left on free transfers.

Matic, Pogba and Cavani were all 1st team players and we were shit even when we had them!

I'm not convinced Eriksen is coming to us. There's no transfer fee involved and we're still waiting on whether he wants to play for us or not. He went through a horrific time after his medical emergency and he's possibly looking at life and his career differently but.......if he can't decide if he wants to play for us or not by now then I'd rather not have him.

We already had a bloated squad (thanks to Ole).

From all the reports its likely us more than any other clubs.

I'd guess he has already decided/ agreed but its just a medical/ holiday timing issue, or he has agreed a date by which to give a decision.

Either way, this is the one of all the deals to be patient of. It's a bonus, non essential deal that can happen quickly so shouldn't materially impact any summer prep.

Clearly we still want it done ASAP so he is part of the training and tactical planning, but its not a key stand out cog like FDJ who could entirely dictate the way we play.

Thought I would revive this as it’s going to be around for a while

Might sign the back-up full-back, but the first major signing is more likely to be after the tour now, so in a month or more

This summer is turning out worse than the Moyes summer. Have United fans woke up to the reality of what is happening yet?

I keep being told I’m a negative poster but what exactly is the club doing to improve our position next season? A new manager is not going to change that team without new players. And they prioritise a fecking LB as the first signing with that shit show of a squad. Debatable he’s even first 11.

The club is no where near rock bottom yet. We are on for a bottom half the table finish with the current squad.

Yeah! This made me laugh. I feel the same most of the time.

The last six months really broke my spirit and I am coming round to the reality that this club will not win the big prizes under the current owners. Among the bad years we’ll have the odd better year where we start to hope again but it’s a generally downward curve until the Glazers move on.

Our season ended in March.
We signed Ten Hag in April.
He arrived in May.
And we did feck all in June.

Now, we're a week into July with pre season due to start in a few days and our only incoming on the horizon is a young full back who we may or may not need. Our only striker wants out and we've been chasing after our main target for weeks on end with little success and it's not clear if he even wants to come to us. The less said about the outgoings, the better.

If you seriously think United have changed, I have a number of bridges to sell you. I'm sure the usual lot will be back accusing everyone of bedwetting though.

We should sign Petr Cech as our transfer man.
Apart from Lukaku they have been a lot better in the transfer market than us. The way it’s looking for us at present is really scary. I’m not surprised Ronaldo has had enough.

Yes, Ziyech, Werner, Saul Niguez, Kepa, Lukaku... they've done brilliant...

I wouldn’t dismiss him so easily. United aren’t too big to finish bottom half

If Ronaldo leaves and we have no major incomings, the squad man for man with the schedule we have is certainly not going to be near the top of the league

We aren’t gonna finish bottom half

last season with the players absolute dog shit under Ralph, with no inclination to accept his coaching under MLS level coaches we came 6th

now we have one of the most exciting coaches in Europe and a team of coaches to match. Even If we signed nobody I bet we still do not finish bottom half

A top half finish is virtually certain, although apart from finally bringing in a manager who isn’t a sociopath or hopelessly naive we’ve done nothing yet to alarm supporters of Spurs or Arsenal, let alone Chelsea.

This time 2-3 weeks from now we will likely have signed 4 players. I think things are looking up.

When De Jong is 100% off who would you get instead for that midfield role?

Nobody springs to mind who is realistic

Tielemans seems most likely I guess but meh

Unlike most of the forum I'm not going to base our success on the absolute number of signings. We need to improve the team from last year and that is looking less and less possible nevermind likely.

With no signings at all I’d say about 5th, even if Ronaldo goes. The presence of a permanent coach who is at least decent should give us a shout to be around the fringes of top 4. That would be kind of depressing anyway but bottom half seems overly fatalistic

So first signing in Malacia to be announced tomorrow probably.

Good we got him if ETH wants him but let's be honest as fair as vital signings needed to improve us immediately this doesn't exactly tip the scale much right now.

1 backup left back complete!

Scary we still have massive holes in the first XI at RB, DM & backup ST even if we can get De Jong, Martinez & Antony (later in window) done
