Have we signed anyone yet? | Yes, with stupid tax

So he can only say to our nego team that FDJ is his main target after he visit United?
Off course not, but if you expect FDJ to sign within that timeline you’re barking mad. He’s a player that thought he wasn’t going to be moving from Barca. ETH has had to have meetings with him. Presumably Barca also met to say that they were selling him. We’d then have to thrash out personal terms with his agent. All whilst he’s trying to play football for his national team. Only then do we start bidding and a game of poker.

So depressing, I've just spent close to 1k on tickets to see the games in Melbourne and Perth, 1k in travel, 1.5k in accomodation, and I'll probably have to look forward to seeing Andreas fecking Pereira and Phil Jones instead of a De Jong or Timber.

In fairness, watching Pereira in pre-season is like watching a regular season Xavi.

You can probably look forward to the following lineup

Bachmann
AWB
Williams
Bailly
Jones
McTominay
Pereira
Elanga
Mellor
Rashford

You’re talking a load of nonsense because there’s no way you know that as fact,

football goes in cycles. 27 years it took for us to win a title again. Liverpool 29? despite being the dominant team of 80s. Once pep leaves it’ll probably take city years again til they find the right coach.

stop worrying about stuff that might not happen, enjoy the moment
Ah, the cycles and the luck. Of course. Why even bother then? We should cease all spending and investment for the next 20 years as we're in the middle of a "cycle" and just wait it out. Just enjoy it, lads, enjoy the incompetence of the Glazers, the waste of money and the waste of everything United managed to build. Football stays the same and the good times will roll again, somehow. It's the magic of football.

Great you get it! Yaaay

Hopefully De Jong is simply the flagship transfer drawing everyone's attention at the moment, and we're stealthily progressing talks behind the scenes with our other key acquisitions for the summer. Believe.
I like the positivity, but as each day goes forward, I get less optimistic.

I’ve said this before: there is a lack of leadership at this club and having Joel and Avram Glazer being the final “sign-off” on any move makes me want to vomit.

was hoping ETH would step into the power vacuum and give us direction, but I don’t think he’s built the credibility yet being a new appointment.

God do you guys remember back in the summer of 2022 when we flirted with Frenkie de Jong all summer only to end up with Rabiot on deadline day for 15m?

lots of caftards poo pooed me saying there was a chance ETH wouldnt be here after our tough run of games in Oct. Now theres a chance he might not be here before Oct. He doesnt seem like the kind of guy to take any crap, and if (yes its a big IF, weve still got loads of the window left etc etc) he's been sold a dud when it comes to our transfer plans, then i wouldnt be suprised if he walks. And if that leads to pressure on the glazers to finally sell up, then it will be all for good in the end.
Yes this is a desperately pessimistic take on things, but imagine someone saying that wed finish 6th and in disarray after finishing 2nd last season and adding who we did.

Outside fan perspective:

Waaaaay overboard.

United will end up signing at least 3-4 significant players this window, plus maybe a couple punts. They might not arrive as quickly as fans want, but they will be signed.

This is ETH's first really big job (and probably first huge payday), he will try his very best to succeed and won't even be thinking about quitting.

He has a difficult job in front of him that will require a lot of patience from supporters, but that would be the case for any manager in this situation.

More likely two significant and maybe a punt if finances allow for it of course

He was still working for Ajax though. Really 12 May is when we got his full attention. So not sure why people are thinking we’ve had a year to be working on transfer targets. It’s a different list for a different manager style

If that's the case we didn't learn anything from our past mistakes.

Am relatively calm about this window btw, think we will get at least 4 players including De Jong, but feck me if go into this change of style only to see Simeone or Conte in 3 years time not knowing what to do with De Jong..

I honestly thinks our past 4 of our past managers are an unprobable coincidence.

Moyes are just Moyes, our player never given him a proper chance since day 1
LVG actually knew what he's doing, he's just bad at signing players
Jose too certainly whether you like him or hate him knows abit or two about football
Ole is clueless

I think once we properly get ETH up and running we would see improvements (fingers crossed his players buys his coaching) and we won't repeat the shenanigan we've had in the past where our managers don't know what to do with their players.

Which 4 positions/players do you reckon?

Well I’d hope and presume that now a DoF (actually 2!) is in place, there will be a club blueprint laid out which will protect us from that happening in future.

but until now, you can be sure Oles targets and ETHs targets aren’t the same

De Jong, Antony, ball playing CB and taking a chance with some low fee/free transfer like Eriksen or 1 promising youngster instead would be my guess.

Don't think they will hang ten Hag out to dry. He has tough enough job as it is. Also, the fans would fully turn on them, no more hiding behind manager.

The worst part was jumping from one style to another. That made the most damage imo.

I'm not worried by lack of signing (for now)

But I do feel worried about no talks of us trying to sign anyone. Previously we've had updates and we can see clearly we're chasing Pogba.
What we might be seeing is what ETH wanted, less media tales

Perhaps last season is a one-off disaster, next season probably everything will going back to normal again, and we will be fighting for top 4.

De Gea - still one of best keeper in the league
AWB - best tackling full back, still young and learning
Shaw - best LB in the world when he find his top form
Maguire - very solid in his first 2 season in general, and especially in England shirt. One of best defender in Euro 20.
Varane - top class world cup winning defender
Fred - Brazilian international midfielder, our midfield engine, and our 2nd best outfield player last season
Mctominay - future Man Utd captain, all action box to box player
Bruno - top 2 AM in the league, on his best form he is nearly as good as De Bruyne
Rashford - England golden boy, very fast and capable of scoring 20+ goals a season, still at very good age with many best years ahead
Sancho - one of best young attacker in the world, capable of providing 20 goals 20 assists
Ronaldo - GOAT goalscorer, our best player last season, voted PL team of the season

New addition:
Garnacho - one of best kid around, very talented youngster, best player in FA youth cup and some u-20 international tournaments
Meijbri - very talented AM, he might be future star player in the league
Garner - top class young midfielder in Championship last season, could be future England international
Diallo - very talented winger, he is working hard in gym lately, and could be ready for next season

Can we cope without a proper DM again then there is still worries at RB as well

The major difference between the boards of Liverpool and United of those years is that they were football boards.
The Glazers are nothing but parasites.

It’s pretty crazy that we chucked in our season in December with the idea that RR would lead to a proper process going forward and then we let go off RR and didn’t really have any transfers lined up either. How is this club run so badly

Let’s put it in simple terms; are you not excited by the coach we’ve appointed? All the other stuff is secondary and will come in time.

For how much you harp on about negativity at least its somewhat rational given the history of the club and the current circumstances, this toxic positivity on the other hand is entirely contrary to what is actually happening what is it based on? Honestly now doesn't it show you how ridiculous this situation is that you were retorting with the same question 3 weeks ago and nothing has happened since?

Like no shit people have been excited since ETH was appointed, that's precisely why there is frustration we want to see this football too and if you think he is going to be playing like Ajax with 1 or 2 players on top of this squad then you will be as disappointed as the rest of us.

ETH is not a miracle worker just ask any Ajax fan it took time for him to get going and lets not forget he is new to the league as well. All while we literally have no midfield or fullbacks that are good with the ball, there is one striker who may yet leave, and our supposed "best players" have already shown how little they care.

Yay!
the rest will come

ffs ‘rinse and repeat’ - clubs a mess.

ETH, yea great let’s see how he gets on with this sub-standard bunch of players with there shit attitudes and grossly inflated weekly pay cheques. However, whilst the Glazers remain at the helm our great club is going nowhere.

As you know these parasites aren’t football men simply business people who are bleeding the club dry. They have no desire for winning trophies as long as the 10m dividend goes into their accounts every quarter of whatever it is then ‘happy days’.

Will there even be a club as we know it in 20 years time? The writing has been on the wall for years!

I need this kind of positivity in my life. You should be a life coach or something

What the hell are we up to. Penny pinching at the expense of getting all deals signed and sealed pre season once again.

@golden_blunder is having a bit of a mare in here isn't he, but I kinda find it amusing. You have to admire his unwaivering belief in a positive future despite 10+ years of evidence to the contrary

Thing is, I would normally be in basic agreement with him, but after last year, I'm in "prove it" mode when it comes to club change.

Half our fans are penny pinching saying that we shouldn’t overpay, then the other half is “just pay it and get on with it”

People were so excited to see Ralf go when at the end you got played by the club again as they couldn’t handle the honesty from him and probably have seen his remarks on needed wholesale changes at the club as overly pessimistic hence decided to let him go. We had one man with experience of building clubs in these roles instead we reverted to the old ways of hoping the right manager will somehow mask the incompetence that’s running through the club.

I wasn't excited to see him leave that role

My whole point is that you all keep going by the last 10 years, yet it’s a brand new CEO who had immediately deferred to football opinions, 2 new DoF, a highly rated young attacking coach, a new coaching team with great experience.

  • some want now types are complaining because we haven’t made any signings yet
  • Another bunch are complaining that we’re offering too much
  • Others are complaining because murtough and Arnold once shared the same air as woody and the glazers so it’s not changed
  • Another bunch complaining because we aren’t keeping up with Liverpool, city
  • Another group complaining that no sales made yet
  • Another group complaining just because everyone else is and they can’t think for themselves
  • Another bunch complaining everything glazers.

so pardon me for trying to get people to act less knee jerk and see what the outcome of this window is because I bet there are going to ce some people typing “I was a moaner but they really pulled it out of the bag!” Etc towards the end of the window
