The disparager
You never really hear people discuss him when discussing the best strikers of the past 30 years or so. Just how good was he?
A smaller version of Haaland. Had it all!You never really hear people discuss him when discussing the best strikers of the past 30 years or so. Just how good was he?
He had a far better technique. But obviously not as big/strong and not as good finishing (his finishing was great but Haaland might be the best finisher I have ever seen).A smaller version of Haaland. Had it all!
Well the main reason they don't discuss him when they talk about the best strikers of the past 30 years is because he wasn't one, he'd struggle to break the top 100You never really hear people discuss him when discussing the best strikers of the past 30 years or so. Just how good was he?
This sentence got silly as soon as you said “100”.Well the main reason they don't discuss him when they talk about the best strikers of the past 30 years is because he wasn't one, he'd struggle to break the top 100

How could you even think this?
Maybe if you believe he appeared out of thin air at Chelsea and had never up until that point played professional football anywhere else.
Unbelievable, really. He's had the same aura of inevitability around him as Haaland does at the moment but he was a more all-rounded footballer (playing in a more defensive league/era). I like to compare him to Henry – in my opinion it's a closer competition than the one that Henry had with van Nistelrooy (who had managed to outscore him but was always a slightly inferior player)... he didn't have the same artistic streak that the Frenchman had but he was more physical & ruthless and overall I'd say that they were about equal.
A perfect product of Lobanovsky's football factory – pace, power, workrate, versatility, tactical adaptability and an uncoachable nose for goals.

Del Piero and Raul@TMDaines
Because unlike 99% of people here, I can remember back 30 years. Most of you lot seem to think football began in 2004 or something. And I can think of 100 strikers that are easily better. I'll start with 10:
Eric Cantona, Romario, Brazilian Ronaldo, Batistuta, van Basten, Henry, Rooney, Del Piero, Raul, Shearer. That's not even including the GOAT's. I'd have ANY of them ahead of Shevchenko.

Some of those on your list are not strikers - Del Piero, Cantona, etc.@TMDaines

Ok. That's 10, what about 90 others?@TMDaines

Well, seeing how you've only managed 10, and you've already got a player who didn't kick a ball in those 30 years, a player who wasn't really a striker, and a good few borderline cases... I'd love to know which cavity the other 90 are coming from.
Del Piero was class but I never rated Raul.
Utter nonsense.Well the main reason they don't discuss him when they talk about the best strikers of the past 30 years is because he wasn't one, he'd struggle to break the top 100
He’s not one of the greats because he didn’t sustain it for long enough, but in those two Champions League runs with Dynamo Kiev he was awesome.@TMDaines

Haaland misses a lot of chances dude.He had a far better technique. But obviously not as big/strong and not as good finishing (his finishing was great but Haaland might be the best finisher I have ever seen).
He scored 60 more club goals (with 25 of those coming in Qatar and the North American Soccer League) than Sheva in 240 more games and their international goal returns are almost identical, despite one of them playing for Ukraine.Which is interesting because Raul was a great technician and managed to be more prolific than someone like Shevchenko.
Haaland misses a lot of chances dude.
Raul scored only 3 times 20 goals or more in the league in 16 seasons despite playing regularly 37-38 games on average. Sheva scored 20 or more in 3 of the 7 seasons he played in Serie a(one was injured mostly) playing around 30 games per season.Which is interesting because Raul was a great technician and managed to be more prolific than someone like Shevchenko.
I dunno, but at the end of the season when I watched him most, he had a lot of chances and missed about all of them. He’s got to have a pretty good conversion rate though right? The guy doesn’t touch the ball but always turns up with a goal.
He was Roman's pet transfer but Mourinho didn't fancy him that much, preferring Drogba. He was ridiculously good. I was horrified when Chelsea signed him as it seemed it would put them even further out of reach. Then he turned up and was absolutely absymalNo idea what caused such a sudden and calamitous drop-off in performance.
