How good was Zinedine Zidane...

I'm beginning to undersand where your tagline came from...

i'd say zidane is in the top 10. although ronaldo, rivaldo, batistuta, henry could be noted as some of the best in the last 10 years.

my top 10 would be
pele
maradona
ronaldinho- will surely be up there when he hangs his boots
charlton
beckenbaur
zidane
ronaldo-brazilian
cruyff
mario kempes-lead argentina to the 78 wc victory
rivaldo

Ronaldinho on the top three??
Are u crazy? A Ronaldo at his peak was a lot lot better than Ronaldinho now..
If u do not believe me.. see those old clips...of Ronaldo.. That boy was from a different planet..It's just a pity laziness ,injury and late nights fecked him...

Johann Cryuff on 8th ? He definitely is a top 5 material.. along with beckanbaur

I now know why your tagline is as it is. Vigilantes were always on the wrong side of thing..............
You took some time off to think of that?

Zidane was great but when he was in italy the guys who won the award for best midfielder were Roberto Baggio and Rui Costa two very underrated players.

they weren't in any particular order

There is almost no player in the world that can make football look as easy as when Zidane played. The thing about Zidane that stood out was his golden touch. He could control any ball, and I really mean ANY fecking kind of ball. You just send away some crap in his direction and he would just glue it to his feets. And if you tried to take the ball from him you actually had to kick him down cus there was no way you could take it. Could sheild the ball like no one else, and if you didn't get it off him in time he would just deliver a quality ball that meant danger right away. There was no real speed to talk about, but then again he didn't need that at all. Ronaldinho is one of the best today, but his touch is not as good as Zidanes touch. Ronaldinho misses a lot of flicks and things that Zidane fixes in his sleep.

Baggio wasnt a midfielder WTF.then what was he a goalkeeper?
and yes theyre both underrated, people forget that Baggio almost single handed guided Italy to the final of WC 94 and when he was at Juve he was the best player in the world.

Is Rooney a midfielder? How about Tevez? No.

I dont forget what Baggio has done, I grew up idolising Serie A and rate Baggio up there with the greats. He hasn't won as much as Zidane but I don't always judge a player solely on what his team has won or hasn't won.

Winning the Serie A with Napoli for starters. Or the French league with a St Entiene. Or a winning the world cup carrying a shit national side while being by far the best at the tournament. Or 3 succesive Euorpean cup victories in a row. Or being a midfielder with the goal scoring record of you national side....Or the top scorer of a National team tournament from attacking midfield... :smirk:

I never got a chance to see Charlton play but I accept he might have been better.

Zidance and Platini is marginal but I think Platini wins it, Zidance was more beautiful to watch but Platini was just so effective. He was to attacking midfielders what Keane was to defensive. Scholes and Platini is no contest in my eyes, Scholes is a great player but second tier when we're talking about this kind of quality, I'd include Gerrard and Viera at that level as well to give you an idea of how I rate him.

also agreed, Platinin was superb

Eder's free kicks were amazing, and i remember Socrates strolling around, smoking 100 fags a day and wasnt he a doctor, but he was still about the most brilliant midfield player ever.

I loved that side too - Eder and Scorates were about my favourite players.

Socrates (amongst others) did indeed stroll around - he made it all look ridiculously easy. In fact the whole team looked like they never got out of neutral because they didn't need to and could have gone up about 5 gears.

So great to watch

goal by eder - not great pic quality , but great goal
