This is undoubtedly true. Only what to do about it? The one thing apt at changing the established order right now is sugar daddies with lots of money from often questionable sources - see Chelsea, City. Not a desirable thing either.
Money generated with international football would have to be distributed in ways radically different from the way it's done now among all clubs of each league. And that is never going to happen against the resistance of the big clubs in those leagues. This will probably have to continue to the point where people are fed up with the predictability of the leagues and stop paying to watch.

There's also another angle to this 'distortion'. When a top team does well in the CL then they have extra games and it affects their league form. Chelsea coasting to the league when not playing in Europe may be a good example of this.

It was issue in Serie A too IIRC. Serie A teams were poor in CL, so Juventus made lot of money from CL.

Might be wrong here but remember reading how Juventus made more money than anyone in CL for last few years.

It's sad but true but what's the solution? They could make a third tier European competition but who'd watch it? And because views would be small so would the money rewarded to clubs.

I sort of agree with it but was confused by the last paragraph, how are they trailblazers for 'soccers' new future.

They could take away starting spots from the small nations again and give them to bigger ones, which would of course widen the gap between top and bottom leagues, but help the competition in both.

Change it back to a knockout format where your big team might get drawn against the champions of Ireland for example. Give the little teams more chance for bigger gate and tv revenue

The CL has utterly destroyed smaller national leagues. The "big" clubs in countries like Croatia, Serbia, Belarus, etc - all get pretty much the same (or more) in CL revenue than all the other teams in the league get from all other sources of revenue combined. It's literally impossible to have even remotely close to an even playing field, and every year the "big" club stays in the CL the further and further the gap becomes.

As long as UEFA distributes the CL revenue directly to the individual clubs and not to the leagues to split evenly among all the teams in that league, this will continue.

It's the same in England too. Utd and Arsenal have qualified how many times over the last 20 years each? It's pretty much a closed shop. Then the seeding makes most of the groups certainties too. Let's be honest I'd get very short odds on predicting 1 of the top clubs qualifying for the quarter finals for 10 years on the bounce. There's very little real competition in any competitions now. Utd are too big to fail. Absolutely no danger. You appointed 2 bad managers back to back. Had some relatively poor seasons but you are so much richer than most you just bought and bought until you got it right. Utd could easily qualify for the next 50 champions leagues. I could probably name 10 sides who won't miss out in the next 50 years. It's really not healthy but like it's already been said not a lot you can do.
