I really do not see us scoring, Casemiro might be the second quickest one on the pitch. I might be at the point to say Everton has more quality on the pitch
Magnificent post looking at how yesterday's game went.I really do not see us scoring, Casemiro might be the second quickest one on the pitch. I might be at the point to say Everton has more quality on the pitch
Tbh those runs work because he's not the focal point, which he would be playing as the Striker/F9. Also, you need Bruno on the ball.I know Bruno is integral to our midfield, however he would still be my preference to start up front in the semis. His movement is sensational. Despite not being fast, he can peel away from his man with some well timed runs (unlike Hojlund). He also has an engine on him to lead the press from the front (unlike Mainoo). Best finisher at the club as well.
Long term there is a striker problem to be solved. But in the short term, I'm worried our lack of options up front could cost us the Europa League. We're going to need Hojlund to play for as long as possible in both legs of the semi and in the final if we make it. I'd therefore rest him in most of the remaining league games.
When is Obi fit again? Are there any other options from the youth or reserve teams, however young? Could Rashford be recalled from his loan? Is there any possibility of an emergency loan striker who could play in the league games for us?
I can see it for a few reasons.Really doubt this happens in the final. EtH did it last year against City but I’m pretty sure he trialled it for 2 games prior to the final. Unless we’ve been working on it in training for weeks I don’t see it, sadly.
You make some good points and as I’ve said before, I would love to see Mount, Amad, Garnacho and Bruno on the pitch together because they have more to their game than Hojlund who, even at his best, doesn’t have much to his overall game yet. I do think we would have seen more of the false 9 if we were going to play it though.I can see it for a few reasons.
1. Hojlund has played the full 90 in our last few games which is odd if he is starting the final, even Bruno has been getting subbed off to keep him fresh and everyone else is rotating.
2. Hojlund has made some marginal progress since the dark days of Jan/Feb when he was flat out awful but he had a nightmare against Chelsea and Amorim has to consider the possibility of losing the dressing room if he picks a player they don't have faith in.
3. We have been terrible against PL opposition for months now, surely we have to look to spring some sort of tactical surprise in the final to try and gain an edge over Ange who most definitely will not change anything.
4. The few moments of genuine quality and impact from Hojlund this season have tended to come when he has been brought off the bench, I think it was the Viktoria game when he got a brace as a second half sub. It might be best to hold him until Spurs are tired and then ask him to give it all that he has got for 25 minutes.
