"I'm half the player under LvG"

Really do think it's Rooney. The press has started to question him and he's working on his excuses.

If (still a very big if) it is him, it's exactly the reason Van Gaal has been so careful with him. His friends in the press will spin it for him in return for information.

I just have a suspicion that this player doesn't exist. After the Carrick/Rooney thing I would have thought the players would not be saying things to journalists. That the journo has just thrown a grenade into the room and retreated. Jason Burt isn't a United reporter is he? Why would any of our players speak to him.

I can see the value in your reaction. This report can not be confirmed or denied with evidence. Therefore one has to consider and take it as a possibility that there could be a rat in the dressing room and that is one of those unfortunate situations that can effect the dressing room. I just wonder about the timing of this. Why now ? Hopefully this will be an incidental one off report, because the media just loves this types of reports in order to enlarge it and create a fuss based on the premise of an assumption that a player could be the leak.

Having read the quote again, it sounds like it's a 'younger' player. Someone new at United, but has probably been playing in England long enough to know a few journos. Schneiderlin maybe? Hope it's not Mata/Herrera - they don't seem to be the type.

In any case, if he's unhappy speak to LVG or put in a transfer request. We don't need that kind of shit right now.

I think it is an english player. The foreign players usually have their gripe when on international duty or when they go home. Unless they have been here long enough to forge a friendship with an English journalist, they likely wouldn't know who to talk to.

As said above and I mentioned about the Belgium manager saying he should leave, Fellaini has been here long enough and he might have been told he is regressing under LvG.

Anyway the timing of this article is definitely doing a good job of making us suspicious of all our players.

Frankly, this statement could be coming from anyone in our senior squad, maybe with the exception of Smalling and DDG.

LVG is over-rated, and I am not saying this based on yesterday game. Of all important attributes that you want from a manager, LVG has shown none: Poor tactic, terrible attack idea, no influence during game, slow reaction to opponents' plan, bad substitution, poor relationship management. The few attributes that he is not completely terrible at are his tendency to give opportunity to youngsters and organizing defence (not great either). He run this team like a dictator and although I have no problem with dictatorship if the dictator is smart, this guy is the opposite to smartness and has been only lucky a few times in his career.

I might get some stick for this but if the club extend his contract for even just one more year I would seriously consider switching club to support. My hero is SAF and I've stood up with Moyes and LVG for 2.5 seasons now.

That paragraph at the bottom. You're a credit to no one champ. Go support City or Chelsea. You won't be missed.

Whoever it is, they need to get on with it and stop making trouble. If they're unhappy, it's a simple thing to hand in a transfer request.

Most of you assume it's a guy who doesn't play much, but I'm thinking it's someone who plays regularly but is struggling, hence why he is only half the player he could be. If a guy doesn't even get many chances, then it's hard to even claim you're half the player you could be, but if you're playing regularly and simply struggling under van Gaal's system, that'd make sense. My guess would be Herrera or Rooney.

It's quite possible more players think the same way but only one has spoken to a journo about it. Assuming it's legit and not made up.

That would be a massive act of disloyalty towards the manager. LVG has unquestionable faith in his captain and even with the media/fans pressure he made sure he was a starter.

Fellaini respects LVG because the latter counts on him (and rightly so given what we saw from him before the suspension last season). The Savior still has a role to play in our team and time will prove that.

The point is this 'player' shouldn't be speaking to a journalist in the first place. Take it up with the manager or Ed Woodward if he feels LVG is so bad. All this leaking just adds to the hysteria. It's wrong thing to do but footballers are footballers I suppose. What can you do?

Who mentioned first team player? Who mentioned star player?

If you read the quote, the journalist never said either. The tabloid rag did. As they always do. Put two and two together, create a narrative, stir the pot, create click bait.
Sensible post

My point is that posters are quick to jump to conclusions and blame players, on the basis of a sexed up headline made by a rag paper who isn't reknowned for journalistic integrity. If you read the quote, he didn't say it was a first team player or a star player. Which many posters now assume (if he was telling the truth) it is.

Yes, you are both right of course. Let's assume this is bollox, considering the source. And although its fun to speculate, this kind of crap is potentially damaging to the club, and not very nice.

It sounds like someone who is a bit of a whinger, who wants everything to be easy. All the players will have had to adapt their games. Some are making an effort to do it, some aren't.

Someone who can also easily get the media on his side.

Attitude on the pitch is also something to look at.

read a page or 2 , surprised Mata isn't getting many votes.

He's horrifically underused here, and is starting to find his starting role under major threat.
Can't believe Rooney is the man, he is still the managers favourite, when a lot wouldn'thave him near the team.

So it is someone who usually starts but his place is under threat?

I'm surprised too because he is the only logical player if the story is true.

Rooney as you say is the teachers pet, Fellaini is twice the player under LvG than he was under Moyes so it can't be him, Herrera just isn't the type and is playing great anyway, and Memphis would just be silly.

Has to be Mata, and as I said earlier somewhere he has a point.

Gotta be an attacking player who isn't playing much. Mata is the logical pick.

Also Herrera has always said about having to change his game and actually doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Has always shown fight to get his place in the side. Yet understands that he might not always play but will try to take his chance when he gets it. This is someone who thinks he is entitled to play. The fact LvG does not trust Mata at 10. In fact would rather play Herrera there and keeps saying he needs a right winger might have ruffled his feathers a bit.

Mata, under used and under threat? He's started every Premier League game. 3 out of 5 CL games and the game against Ipswich. He has the best end product of everyone in the squad, statistically. I wouldn't say his starting position is under threat at all. Is there anyone other than Smalling who has played more games than Mata?

Mata makes sense in terms of performance and how he's being asked to play, but he just doesn't seem like the type of guy to blab to journalists about his grievances.

Im gonna go for Fellaini. Changed my mind after saying Rooney.

When you compare Fellainis performances for Belgium and then look at how we utilise him i think its fair to say he would be pissed off at the "lump to Fellaini because thats all he's useful for" tactic. Under moyes we played him defensively so wasn't very good for us then either. If he's to be used as an attacking outlet i think he's shown for his country (number one in the world may i add who he is arguably one of their best players for) that he is more then just a target man.

We might be back to Memphis, I know he is supposedly like a father figure. RvP was supposedly LvG's friend. That meant nothing. His place is under threat from Lingard and he might not have been happy to be taken off left right and centre.

I don't think it about not playing, it's about the way he is having to play not showing his attributes at their best. You know it will be Phil Jones in the end.

 I kind of hope it is Rooney and it gets back to LVG, because that will be Rooney finished at Manchester United.

Could be almost any of them.

Is it my imagination or do good players frequently become bad (temporarily, hopefully) when they come to Old Trafford these days?

I doubt it, mate - they'd probably make him Chairman and his hair Vice-president.
