Interim manager discussion: Who replaces the interim interim manger (Carrick)?

on an interim basis....i think Lucien Favre or Rangnick makes the most sense given their age and experience

Favre was really good at Dortmund and helped them win trophies along with a good attacking style of football

Rangnick is a german coach so you know he would bring discipline, mentality and a very specific style of play

Neither was Favre really good at Dortmund, nor did he win them trophies. He won one super cup which is the equivalent of the charity shield. That's it.

Before Dortmund I really rated him, as he did phenomenal work at Gladbach, Hertha and Nice, but at Dortmund it showed that he doesn't have the mentality for a big club. He would be a disaster.

I'm not a fan of Favre at all, his football at Dortmund was too chaotic.

We need to get the interim appointment right.

We can STILL compete for the PL this season - we are 12 points behind Chelsea, 9 points behind City, and 8 points behind Liverpool with 26 games (76 points) up for grab.

If we somehow get a win against Chelsea over the weekend (with lots and lots of luck), with our upcoming run of fixtures, we can cut the gap to 6 points by the January transfer window. Already, our squad is good enough to compete - and we can hopefully get a RB or DM (with sales of players like Lingard) in January. We are also in the FA Cup and the CL.

Actually bothering to interview candidates is a very un-Woody thing to do - so, yeah, I'll take that as a good sign.

From what I know about them, it seems that Valverde and Ralf are the two best of that bunch.

Ralf and Favre are fairly old, so hopefully they’ll know to let go in May too. The others will surely want it full time. Valverde seems too qualified to be an interim

Rather have Ole than Steve Bruce.

The butterfly effect of hiring Ragnick would be incredible.

Ragnick now then Ten Hag in the summer.

At least it feels like a more comprehensive process than the one that handed over the job to Ole at first chance.

It's John Murtogh leading the whole operation apparently looking at all these reports, Woody isn't doing any of it

Yes, that's what I meant.

Shows that JM - possibly, at least - knows what he's doing to some degree.

At least to a greater degree than Woody (which you could say about a random dog in the street, granted - but still).

If the board announced tomorrow that Bruce is in til end of the season but ten Hag will takeover in June, the state of confusion this place would be in.

Favre finished 2nd in both seasons, just 2 points behind Bayern in 2019 and qualified for the UCL knockouts.

What more should he have done? Tuchel was at Dortmund for a similar amount of time and he also only won a cup trophy

Murtough seems to be competent in football side of things. His 5 interim candidates are very good and his permanent candidate of Ten Hag and Poch is excellent.

Ed and Arnold should not get involved.

Ideally, Ragnick now and Ten Hag in the summer.

Oddly, if it were to be Bruce, I'd laugh but not cry. It would be certainly an interim appointment (no way he'd get it permanently) and he'd have a chance to actually show what he could do when he had a real squad and little pressure (...insert dire prediction here!) No, am not advocating for him, just musing out loud about 'what if'... Now, the shortlist mentioned above, if accurate, seems positive but just sayin'.....Imagine if Brucie came in and had us playing well....who say's romance is dead?
[and since some folks here seem to take every statement in its most literal, unintended way, let me formally state that I am just kidding!]

Ffs the state of the club, essentially handing everyone an interview now. How can a giant like Man United become such a joke of a club?

It is better than not having any process at all and taking the first name that comes to mind.

If the reports about us actually going through a process via interviewing several candidates is true, then I'm personally pleased to here that. It's exactly what should've happened in prior years.

Out of all those interim names being thrown around I'd take Ragnick ahead of them all.

I think Blanc would be good but there's all that noise about racist remarks.

Who would you prefer if I may ask?

Finally, we look like a proper run football club in appointing interim and permanent manager. It seems we have a proper plan in place.

Tuchel won a real trophy (the DFB Pokal) and not just a glorified friendly like Favre did. As for the two league finishes: On paper it looks good, but you would have a different opinion if you had watched the games. The 2019 campaign was one of the biggest bottle jobs in Bundesliga history. At one point Dortmund was 9 points ahead of Bayern. As for finishing 2nd: Dortmund is by far the second biggest club in Germany.

I quite like that it seems we have sort of a plan. Hopefully however, if the interim comes in and does alright they don’t just bottle it and throw a long term contract at the interim.
If they know who they want in the summer which I’m guessing they do, and they know we can’t get them till the summer hence why we are looking for an interim.
If they’ve had positive discussions with a manager for the summer, hopefully you get an interim who shares similar values to your long term target. No point of going from say an LVG to a Jose. Bring someone in who already has the team working on things your main target is likely going to use.

I hope John Murtough gets to bring in the man of his choice. And by all accounts that man is Ralf Rangnick, who is reportedly a friend of Murtough's. I know people don't like 'mates FC' but I want to judge Murtough with him being in a position of power and hope he gets to bring in his favoured interim and head coach.
