He isn't a great T20 player but RCB are the problem. Batting and bowling are both crap. I actually think Kohli should ask for a release before the next auction.
India need to move on from Rohit and Kohli, but we aren't as stacked as we think we are.
The IPL impact sub rule means (IMO) India isn't winning a T20 WC anytime soon. No all rounders. Nobody so far to replace Kohli and Rohit. Not genuine fast bowler after Shami / Bumrah. Cupboard is bare IMO
He is such a big player that when you sign him a) you have to pay big money from your purse(so it takes away from your total kit) b) you have to play him in top 3 -- he eats up balls and it forces everyone else down a particular strategy of batting. When people say that "the rest of them didn't deliver", I think it should also be evaluated why someone like Shivam Dube didn't deliver at RCB but is doing well elsewhere. There are loads of examples like this. When you draw up your team sheet and stick a guy who makes 40 off 35 in the first ten as your opener, there's not a lot of tactical flexibility being offered.
In yesterday's game, Faf did poorly too but the rest of them barely got 5 balls. I don't think it should be acceptable to end a T20 innings with 3 of our middle order having faced < 5 balls unless you've struck at significantly above par.
Virat was on 38 off 35 at one point. At this point, if he hits a few fours and gets out with a strike rate of 140, it looks good. But the base that has been built for the team matters. You want to be ahead of par off the blocks as much as possible. He has done this a lot for India where he puts them below par in first 8 and he himself looks above par at the end of his own innigns. I don't believe it's a coincidence that he has played 15+ years, and we've seen this again and again with his teams.
I wouldn't absolve RCB of all the sins. They make plenty of blunders, but they've now gone through so many coaches and every one fails to deliver at RCB.
I agree with the point on all-rounders. It's a terrible rule for Indian cricket - may be they put it in place to squeeze more seasons out of Dhoni for monetary reasons?
I agree that India are weak in T20. It's our worst format. I'd go something like: Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, Surya, Jadeja, KL, Pandya, Chahal, Bumrah, Siraj, Shami(is he fit for WC?)
It is really hard to pick bowlers for India after Bumrah. The batting has too many anchors. Can't even pick a wicketkeeper..
